Thanks bongedone, now know where the brisket is but wouldn`t be able to identify it in the supermarket, or a shank, can add a hock?? to that now after reading another recipe0

Have been to see our friendly butcher and now know about lots of cuts of meat:cool: I picked up my MR 3,5ltr cooker, when I took it out of the box it was a 6.5ltr I presume that the smaller one was out of stock, I thought it was a nice result until I cooked my chicken casserole in it, it seemed to be cooking very fast even on slow, in fact boiling, is this right? I went on Amazon and the buyer reviews only give the larger one 1.5 stars whilst the 3.5ltr has 5 stars. The main complaint was that the 6.5ltr cooks to fast (mine certainly seemed to) saying that it didn`t burn but I had to top it up after 7hrs or it might of done. Does anyone else find this and is it a problem. If so should I take it back and wait untill they get a smaller one in>

I have the 6.5L and I love it. It does cook a bit quicker than some models, but stick with it and you will get to know how fast it works. When I first got mine I cooked a few different things in it while I was at home so that I could keep an eye on it.
I have to confess that there seems to be a bit of a fan club on here for the MR 6.5L - but for a good reason - it is absolutely fab!!!
You could take it back and get the smaller one but you wouldn't be able to batch cook as easily. Also the larger one is more flexible - you can cook whole chickens in it, as well as more than one dish at a time.

Thanks Ibt, cooked a pork casserole today, put a bit more liquid in and it was ok after 10hrs. Must admit I do like the size, trouble is I cooked enough for 4 today and was going to freeze 3 lots but it was so nice I ate the lot!! Does take a bit of cleaning though, is there a easy way to get the rime off around the edge than just soap and water, would it be possible to put the washing up water in it and boiling it up a bit on high? Not very good at washing up, usually leave it all for a few days then do the lot, couldn`t leave the crock pot for that long as it would never clean :-)0

Nice to know its not just me that eats it all before the freezer gets a look at it..:rotfl:
I make HUGE portions now (fill it to the top) so that there is always something to freeze. It seems to not crisp around the edges so much too if it is filled over half way.
I find it easy to clean by filling it with warm water and a bit of washing liquid and soaking it for a couple of hours.
Then a scourer just wipes it clean.
Be carefull of your stainless steel sink though, we found that the bottom of the crockpot will scratch it quite badly,(our sink was brand new and expensive too) so now I allways put a dishcloth down under it first.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Thanks for the reply shandypants, will try the soaking bit. My sink isn`t stainless but because of the weight I did wash it on the draining bit, good idea about the cloth I will use one from now of. For my next trick, a whole chicken tomorrow :-)0

Hi Everyone,
I've had a few flops with my slow cooker recently and I am looking to get back on track with it.
I am looking to do a roast, not too bothered what kind although I prefer lamb and beef. i want it to end up having that melt in the mouth texture, not chewy at all.
I am open to suggestion and at your mercy! What do you suggest?0 -
i love my hot pot i just bung it all in and put it on slow and not had anything bad happen yet.
Hoping to try chicken and rice in it some time soon0
