I've only just bought one, the small Morphy Richards.
Nicest thing so far is pasta sauce. Bung in the mince, onions, toms, all the stuff and leave it all day, come home to a quick dins, with rest left for next day. Magic.
I did a lamb shoulder in it and oddly enough I also thought that although the lamb was very tender, going into shreds, it was dry. That was with a moroccan sauce. Maybe I cooked it too long, I don't know.0 -
Can I recommend a small, inexpensive book that I have found really useful? It is called 'Slow cooking properly explained', by Dianne Page. It is full of really useful recipes for all sorts of things, not just casseroles, even puddings and cakes. It has a £3.99 label, though I have probably had it for years - it may even have come from a car boot sale or charity shop (though not at that price!). I don't know if it is still in print, but might be worth checking out Amazon. Have others seen it?0

Pork fillet in sherry sauce with mushrooms.
1 Pork fillet, 4oz Mushrooms, 2 level teaspoons Paprika, 4 fl.oz medium sherry. No salt or pepper. 1oz butter.
Turn on slow cooker about half an hour before starting to prepare.
Trim the fat from the pork fillet and cut into medallions about half an inch thick.
Melt butter in a frying pan and fry the meat to seal all over.Quickly put the meat into the slow cooker to keep warm. Add sliced mushrooms over them.Heat up the remaining juices in the frying pan and add the paprika and sherry and mix. Bring up to boil and immediately pour over the pork and mushrooms in slow cooker. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours or adjust times as per instructions for your slow cooker. Do not open the slow cooker again as heat will be lost and cooking time lengthened.
Either serve as it is or thicken juice with a little bit of plain flour mixed with water ( mixed to a smooth fluid paste) and mix it into the juices.
Do this about 30 minutes before the end of cooking time.
You can drizzle a small spoonful of single cream over the plate when serving. Optional.
Serve with small new potatoes and broad beans or french beans or a side salad.I wish you......

I got my slow cooker for xmas and use it all the time now, wouldn't be without it. Our favourite is beef stew, I use braising steakcut into cubes, any veg you want(I use cauli, broccoli, carrots, sprouts & new potatoes - cauli & broccili on the bottom as they take the longest to cook, meat on the top), vegetable & beef stock cubes(one of each), mixed herbs & a tin of tomatoes, immerse in water. Cook all day then thicken with gravy granules when ready to serve. For best results throw it all in the night before and put in the fridge.0
