    Hi all
    Just read all the stories
I have also ordered my Mac book through TF traders via amazon on 8th December
But it rang bell when they stopped answering my mails regarding delivery
Can I ask you what have you done in case it proved to be a scam and did you get your money back and have any one claimed against this company ?

    Reply will be appreciated

Do as KB Suggests. Sign on through your account, and raise a case using the A-z Safe Buying Guarantee. This is the Amazon FAQ answer on filing a claim, that KB's link takes you to.

How do I file a claim?

If you made the purchase through the Amazon.co.uk website, you can submit a claim by viewing the specific order details via Your Account on our website. Click "Your orders", and then click "File a claim" next to your order to file your claim.

After you've read carefully through the following important guidelines, click below to submit your claim
    .

I went for the option to talk to an agent using the Amazon call-you-back service. If you have any issues get back in touch.

And thanks KB re the name of the company (it was my attempt at sarcasm at their expense, hence the bold and italic !!!!!! characters :D) and also thanks for the Gum Tree reference. I have used Gum Tree in the past but found it to be less than reliable with the listings I looked at. Maybe I should give it a try again.
I see the property is listed as a 3 bed flat. Didn't find out about there being a business run from there or what the nature of the business was. If you could steer me to how you found that, my arsenal of tools for future purchase protection would be a lot stronger. Thanks in advance.

I said that last post from me was my last.
    I lied.
I'm keen to know how Kurtis Blue got so much info on !!!!!! Traders,
"it took me seconds to google the address they gave and found that it was a recently rented bedsit selling cheap UK stock claiming it was coming from the USA."
I googled !!!!!! early on and could not get any more info than a street view of the address. I did look for Chamber of Commerce and other business directory entries and also Residential and Business letting sites but got nowhere. I'd really like access to Kurtis Blue's on line search ability so I for one can make sure I don't fall for this again.
    Thanks in advance KB.

But it was obviously a scam from the start, because they claimed to pay all the courier fees, import duty, handling and VAT, yet the price was still cheaper than buying in the UK. Impossible. Your heart said 'bargain'. Your head surely told you otherwise?
The only way they could import by that method is by supposedly handling it all through a 3rd party recipient who would clear it and pay the duties and taxes-the purpose of that was simply to gain some more time before they were rumbled.
It's been said so many times: if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.
Amazon cannot vet every party signing up as an Amazon trader, they know some will be bad and they factor that into their margins.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hi macman. I mentioned above that I eventually bought a Macbook through ebay (in 5 working days) for what was, net net, about the same price as TFT were advertising theirs for.
This ebay offer was all carriages, duty and VAT paid in the UK, prior to me receiving it.
It was done exactly as you say, through a 3rd party agent receiving the goods, paying all duties then shipping on to me.
Which is just what TFT said they would do when I contacted them by email before I placed an order and queried the duty/VAT/shipping charges.
So, given both companies (TFT and ebay) had the same story about import/shipping, with offers of the same item at almost the same price, seeing one as an obvious scam and the other as a genuine deal is not that easy. Not for me at least, nor others too.
So although I appreciate all the well intentioned input made in this thread, judging a deal on price alone is only one way to make a decision.
Also judging a deal as being genuine because it's offered on Amazon, is, as I have found out, not a great way to decide on a third party reseller's integrity either. The saving grace here is the fantastic response from Amazon, which I sincerely hope that the others who found themselves in the same position as me, receive too.
  • Certainly was a saving grace going through Amazon and lesson learned for me they have just sent me a refund for a camera I ordered £1649, and hopefully I will have a nights sleep tonight been a horribly journey also confident Amazon will also refund all involved
    Regards
    Kevin
  • Glad to hear it Kevin. And you had a lot at stake there.
Have you looked around for an alternative supplier? There are some bargains around on cameras ATM - assuming at least one of the adverts is genuine :D

Thank you, yes I have had a good look decided to wait now until 2013 to purchase in the sales if you can call it sales these days lol

TFT may well have cloned their scam from another genuine site.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I ordered a Macbook from them also, raised a claim with Amazon which they have responded to within 24 hours, all sorted and transaction cancelled.

On the issue of it being 'too good to be true' does anyone have any info on these guys as I still want a Macbook.... http://spilsburyhouse.com/acatalog/Apple-MacBook-Pro-13-MD101BA-2.5GHz-4GB-RAM-500GB.html?gclid=CMa725j7vLQCFbMbtAodqWMAFw

Wouldn't touch it, domain registration hidden behind a front company.

For something like a Macbook pay a reputable company to get it, otherwise you may run into all sorts of problems.

The risk simply isn't worth the saving...
  • If you can do with a US spec, there are a number around to choose from. One example is
    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Eurotronics-For-Less?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
I haven't used them: should be worth a look.
