MAC or PC

OP, just get a PC. It is easier all round I think. (This is exactly what I advised to start off with!)
If you are asking why buy a mac then your mind is probably already made up.0 -
Plus don't forget, what ever software you have bought for the PC. You will need to buy again for the MAC.
At the end of day, just go with what you want. The debate of PC vs MAC will go on till microsoft or appl go bust, and can't see that happening for a very long time.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
It doesn't appear to have been mentioned but in addition to the Mac Mini you would also need a monitor, which will be another £100 on top at least.0

Macs are not actually designed to be shut down and rebooted every day (i still do it with my macbook) and run better when left to hibernate...
When I get an iMac next year it will remain on at all times, and only be rebooted when updates demand it, or shut down when im on holiday.
This is one of those statements that can get very confusing, as their is no need to reboot a Windows, Mac OS or Linux machine everyday,
In fact you could say Most OS's are "not actually designed to be shut down and rebooted every day", but as with most Linux systems (Mac OS X+ is a Linux system) they seam more stable, (see my previous post) so require less reboots.Press any other key to continue.0 -

Mostly i will be looking to browse the web, make up home videos, store and work with pictures plus of course music so no gaming or anything too techincal.
Everyone I speak to says 'go for the Mac' but of course the MAC is more expensive, so really my only choice would be the mini-mac as my budget is around £600, but even then for the same money i could get a pretty high spec PC.
I would assume that it is just a matter of personal choice at the end of the day, but is there any real benefit to the MAC other than being easier to set up ipod/ipads to it?
If anyone got any advice on this debate or could offer any insight which would help?
Thanks very much!
Really not going to read intervening pages, much of this may have been said....
1) How much time do you invest? How much time do you have....
For years I ran linux on home built PC's, easily the most economic.
2) I support Windows PC's at work (and high end UNIX machines as well).... I find Windows is crap at letting you control what you do compared to Linux where you pretty much need to.
3) Now I'm a father I have 2 Mac's (old Macbook and old IMac) both previous generation. I have a Windows Laptop from work....
Photo's, internet, mail, video editing all go from Mac....
4) The older Mac's don't feel dated like a windows machine of the same age running windows 7 (or worse Vista)....
5) You can buy a used Mac......
Conclusion
a) Single and want to mess about and have the time - Linux
b) Parent/Busy, don't wanna mess about and don't need specific windows software, just wanna do email, play with photo's and videos and not need latest version of MS Office etc. - Mac
c) Have a specific requirement for Windows software - Windows
(You can run Windows on Mac or in linux but if you have the time why not use free alternatives? I now have linux running as a a VM (or several) on my Mac but rarely have time to play....
Just my 2c.....
Damn.... must comment
Shutting down your machine hurts it.......
Every time you do this is cools and reheats ..... this puts pressure on pins....
My linux machines used to be rebooted once or twice a year when I felt like playing with a new kernel.... My iMac ....
uptime
15:07 up 23 days, 29 mins, 2 users, load averages: 0.25 0.20 0.17
with no plans to reboot any time soon!
Last one was a kernel security update....0 -

Either way, it's still additional money spent over and above the price of the Mini.0
