MAC or PC

After 6 years its time to upgrade my computer, but like many people i am facing a decision between a MAC or PC.
Mostly i will be looking to browse the web, make up home videos, store and work with pictures plus of course music so no gaming or anything too techincal.
Everyone I speak to says 'go for the Mac' but of course the MAC is more expensive, so really my only choice would be the mini-mac as my budget is around £600, but even then for the same money i could get a pretty high spec PC.
I would assume that it is just a matter of personal choice at the end of the day, but is there any real benefit to the MAC other than being easier to set up ipod/ipads to it?
If anyone got any advice on this debate or could offer any insight which would help?
Thanks very much!

Flip a coin.
It will give you better advice then anyone on this board on this subject0 -
As RobTang says.
Generally, MAC users hate PCs and PC users hate MACs.

We have both and there are still some key things we cannot achieve on the iMac, e.g. decent collages - Picasa for Mac exists but does not play at all nicely with iPhoto.
Also I find installing and un-installing programs to be unintuitive.
On the other hand, an iMac with Leopard OS does have some powerful photo and video software bundled with it.0 -
With a £600 budget I'd opt for the Pc over the mini-Mac, you'll get far more for your money. The hardware is basically the same between the two formats these days so it really boils down to you being willing to pay the extra for an aesthetically pleasing design and a UNIX based operating system.
If you're willing to put in some learning time there's also the Hackintosh option of buying component hardware based on the Mac specification, getting a copy of Mac OS and building your own Mac.0 -
PC every time - much more software available (drivers for everything)
Costs less too (i7 for £500)
When you look at Macs - the owners are all weird - do you want to go weird too ?0 -
Always a grudge match.
If you don't know why you would want one then do you really need to pay the premium that all Apple products demand.
Unless you are an Apple convert then decent spec PCs will meet your needs and more."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I own both a mac and a PC. For basic internet browsing, I use the PC. For any kind of editing of pictures or video, the mac wins hands down for me. I also run boot camp on my mac, and have both linux and iOS so you could technically run either on either, although I have gotten accustomed to the gesture pad

I would suggest you go to an apple store if there is one fairly local, and speak to one of the specialist staff who will be able to determine if a mac is right for you. If you want a windows/linux PC, you can always run a dual boot system if you want iOS as well.

You will get idiots who are pc only yet funnily enough most mac only users will not slag off a pc like the pc users will.
Jealousy, not having the money to afford a mac? Who knows.
The fact remains a mac is much more convenient to use. Uninstalling a program is a case of dragging an icon into the trash, that's it. Running adobe cs6 just works better on a mac as having multiple apps open at once has no effect on performance like it does with a pc.
Bottom line even though a mac is my only option being a designer, for your needs it soundsike you may aswell go for pc.0 -
I have a p.c. and a mac which I bought about 18 months ago.
Being an old dog I find it increasingly difficult to get to grip with new tricks. I primarily wanted to use it for spreadsheet purposes but the software which I have been using for donkeys years (Lotus) is incompatible. Boot camp for me is out of bounds, if I can't see the written word in hard copy in front of me then I'm grounded and the lack of a book of destructions did initially perplex me.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.0
