High risk to Britons in Egypt

Turkey has got nothing to do with it.
It is surrounded by civil war and unrest.
It is bordered by Greece,Syria, Iran, Iraq Georgia and also has its own problems with Kurd Terrorists (freedom fighters ? )
For me, Sharm, Marmaris, Antalya, Agadir , Hammamet, Dubai, Gambia are as safe as anywhere and probably safer than downtown Orlando, Miami or Tampa.
The scariest place I've been was "THE BOGSIDE" in Derry/Londonderry. Family day out. Wrong turning, British numberplate. Not welcome. Very scary0 -
I think we all realise that there are many places in the world with various safety risks. My point is that the comment about me not going to Turkey was a random insult, probably fuelled by the fact that I'd stuck up for someone who had another random comment made about their driving.
The thread is someone asking about their trip to Egypt, they are trying to assess the risk of going there.
The situation in the Middle East seems to be changing by the day right now, OP certainly has reasons to be concerned. That said, none of us really know for sure that their holiday would be affected. In my opinion holidays are 'fun time' away from work. They are something that people look forward to and these risks may affect their excitement about their holiday even if they don't affect the holiday itself.
I hope OP has managed to make his/her mind up.0 -

Thanks,
But tbh we were still going to go but the wife's eyebrows are now raised due to the Gaza situation now.
Now i'm not saying im an expert in this but it is a bit un-nerving when comments about escalation could suck in the likes of Lebanon,Syria,Iran and Egypt!
And the comments of "Egypt was prepared to make sacrifices to stop this aggression",and the president calling on Israel to stop the bloodshed or "face the wrath of his country".
Very unsettling.0 -

That was precisely my point.

Very unsettling.
Is there any cost difference between cancelling now and cancelling in January? If not, why not just sit it out for a while and see what actually happens. Hopefully it will be ok. If the FCO eventually advise against travel then at least you will get your money back. If not, should be fine to go. It's a shame you should be enjoying your countdown to holiday rather than worrying about it. :mad:0 -
Thanks lesley74
That's what we are going to do. Like you say we're usually counting down the weeks to a holiday but with this one its all about the headlines, although i'm sure it'll be ok in the end.
Positive thinking is needed i reckon, sun, sea, all inclusive food and drink0 -
Four more sleeps for us.
Cases are filling up nicely.
No worries whatsoever, and reading Trip Advisor, those in Sharm at the moment are enjoying themselves.0 -
I've been reading this thread with great interest. We're looking to do Sharm in 2 weeks time & aren't phased by the present concerns. The only thing I find surprising is having monitored the package holiday prices for a month now, there's been little movement.I would have thought the Travel Agents would be falling over themselves to cut prices & get the proverbial bums on seats.0
