    I really like Egypt/Sharm & I've been this year (I wasn't put off).
However I really doubt that to be true.
If civil unrest broke out in any of the tourist resorts in Egypt, I can't see locals fighting THEIR own to protect tourists - nor would I expect to see that anywhere in the world.

Who knows? Pointless even considering really as hopefully its something we will never have to find out.
  • Hi all,
Just an update and im pleased to say we had a brilliant time in Sharm.
I felt very safe and the people are very friendly.
There were checkpoints on route to our hotel and even armed guards outside our resort but this is the norm.
Even the protesting in Cairo which was happening while we were in Sharm didn't un-nerve us,after all its miles away.
Thanks to everyone who shared their views and we are thinking of going back.
    Thanks again,
    Dave.

    To quote the FCO:

" There is a high threat from terrorism throughout Egypt. Although security is tight throughout the country, especially in resort areas, there remains a high risk of attacks, which could be indiscriminate, including in public places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers such as hotels and restaurants. "

So, it's not a heightened risk but a HIGH risk.

And within the past year specific threats against tourists travelling to Sharm have been made by Islamic extremists.
I have no doubt they're capable of carrying out such attacks.

All I'm saying is the fact that people are still holidaying in Sharm where all appears to be calm does not negate or decrease the serious warning posted by the FCO.

To quote the Home Office in the UK:

"The current threat level is Substantial - thismeans that a terrorist attack is a strong possibility."

    Threat from international terrorism

The current threat level is Substantial - this means that a terrorist attack is a strong possibility.

I think i had a valid question to ask in the beginning But thought i'd let people know that i enjoyed myself and felt safe.
There were no intentions of scaring people, infact my last post was quite the opposite.
