IF civil unrest occurs in sharm (it has not before) or there is a terrorist attack, the FCO will be your first port of call, not your insurance

    Hi all,
I have recently just paid up for a winter trip in Egypt (End of Jan) and i am now concerned due to the government releasing a HIGH LEVEL alert for Britons traveling to Egypt.(read on BBC news)
Although it states Sharm El Sheik is staying the same at the moment, my wife and i are still very concerned, and is wondering if the Travel Agent would refund the money under the circumstances. (Its the Co op travel group).
    Any opinions?

Not a place I would choose to go, but a friend of mine works in Egypt and he tells me: life as normal in Sharm El Sheik. Enjoy your hoilday :T

I returned from 8 nights in Sharm last week. No problems at all (apart from the couple of days of rain, good for Egypt but not me!). Also did a day trip to Cairo to see the pyramids, again no problems.

However if this kinda thing worries you and you're not going to enjoy what should be a relaxing holiday then you are best cancelling.

To the poster who was asking about insurance with terrorism cover, if you do a search on one of the comparison sites you'll find theres quite a few companies that do it. I decided to get terrorism cover a few years ago for a trip to the middle east and there was many options.
  • Still not decided where to go for our winter break, but all this talk about Israel/Gaza on the news makes me a bit more inclined not to book Egypt just now. Sort of swaying towards Bangkok now, but not totally decided.

That's like saying you wouldn't go to Turkey.

    It's ridiculous.

You've got more chance of getting zapped trying to cross the roads in 'crazy' Bangkok.
  • There's a webiste... can't remember the name, thought it was linked to the foreign office but can't find it... You register and then log details of your holiday, including contact numbers for yourself and for family back home. If there is a problem eg possible terrorist attacks, they contact you can let you know, they get you out if need be, and they keep your named contact back home informed. Cannot for the life of me remember the name!
