I have the day to myself. What shall I do?

    I could

DO a little gardening - well planning anyway as it's raining
    Clean the house
Go Shopping (this isn't really an option as I loathe shopping)
Watch a film and finish my knitting
    clear out some cupboards
    clean the windows
    Do the ironing
Mess around on t'internet all day
Do some writing that i keep meaning to do.
Go for a nice long walk in the rain

OH and DS are off to the footie as DS birthday treat
DD is off to her drama class for most of the day.

I am off to watch DD in her school production tonight so it is just the day.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Hi, I read this thread everyday - I hope you all don't mind. I am now fully of the believe between you all you have ans for all questions (this is a compliment I assure you) -Anyway to the reason I have popped my head up. I have been given a slow cooker which I have never used before. I have read a number of times on here that you guys and girls cook a whole chicken in it, could someone please post how the best way to do this is, I am no Jamie Oliver but I have a feeling it may be dry? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Morning all :)

madartha why not start with hunting haggis and work your way up to bears? Also only go for the bears with picnic baskets, they tend to use their claws less than the normal ones.

VJsmum do something fun. Why should everyone else get a day off while you clean windows?

Hello Lottiesmum. I don't have a slow cooker, but I'm sure one of the more knowledgable ladies will be along shortly :)

Life continues much as normal here. The weather is bleugh, so no shed building will be happening today. I'm due to collect for Marie Curie in the city centre this afternoon, so I hope they provide waterproofs or at least a cover for the tray of daffodils. There is a Bedroom Tax demo happening at the same time I'm meant to be collecting so I hope it stays peaceful.

I've made rice pudding in the microwave for breakfast. I figure that it is a cereal/carb and has less sugar in it than most brought cereals. I had mine with raspberry jam stirred in :D

Tomorrow I am going to visit my family while the rest of my lot are at comic con at the NEC. I have to brave the rail network for the first time in years so wish me luck. Hopefully I won't get lost in the bowels of Birmingham New Street station. It will be worth it to get cuddles from my nephew, although according to my DSis the terrible twos have hit. It's a good reminder that I really don't want any more kids. It's so nice to be able to hand the little darlings back when they start misbehaving.

Time to get dressed and go shopping. I still need a present for my Godmother that needs delivering tomorrow.

    Take care xxxx

The loo roll saga -best thing I ever did was to put the bar type loo roll holders that take 2 rolls. No fiddling with wooden dowels & always plenty of (Farm Stores!!) loo paper - even DS's managed to replace ;)

Persisting down here today so I'm going to hibernate & maybe do some baking if I can be arrised - although I ought to post some stuff on fleabay I 'spose
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Lottiesmum I have cooked a whole chicken often but it falls apart as you take it out sometimes. The trick is to fold some tin foil into a strip across the cooker so it will meet on top once the chook is in there. Then fold another strip the other way. Then hours later when the chicken is cooked you can gather the strips on top and lift the chicken up to drain it. I usually put a carrot and onion in somewhere to flavour the stock and you will be amazed how much liquid comes out of a dry chicken. You can add water from the start but then you are simmering the bird and it's not totally necessary.

I too hope no snow in North LIncs. I am thinking of taking my shopping trolley for a walk into the place with the naughty bit in the middle. The trolley arrived damaged from the supplier before Christmas and they refunded my money but I used it in an emergency and although the frame is a bit mangled it does the trick. I will wait until I hit a bigger town to look for a replacement. I see lots of men in their 50s with trolleys now, and I think they are essential if you have a bad back.

  • Thank you Living Proof I will try this I don't suppose it really matters if it falls apart saves on carving. I thought I would put it on high. My friend who passed it on did give me a slow cooker recipe book but all the recipes look either to fancy or expensive nothing on the basics.

The last shopping trolley I saw in our town had a dogs head poking out of it!:rotfl:

Well the sun has just poked its head out so i'll go and pop the washing on the line while baby is asleep.

I have a typhoon trolley that I got from eBay. I know that Argos sell them now. I have had mine for years and the bag is a bit damaged now, but it's still going strong. I had a wheel shatter on me after I had had. It over a year and emailed Typhoon about getting a replacement. They sent me a new one at no cost which is very good customer service. When Dotty the Trolley goes to the Great Trolley Park in the Sky I will look into getting a Rolser one, but will probably get another Typhoon one.

Glad it's not just me, don't mind food shopping so much, but clothes and shoes oh my! all the trying on puts me in a right $Hi**y mood.

My Oh is the same and would be happy if someone would just send him clothes that fit.

My DD's on the other hand could get an Olympic gold in shopping.
