Thank you MaryB your trolley sounds lovely, though may be a bit dear for me. Think I will have a look at those I pass in the street and see if any appeal, before splashing out. My arms are still aching, and I'm sure I'll feel it tonight, so the light weight nature of yours does sound worth it.

I got a ten quid two-wheeler from the local market with some of the Christmas money my sister gave me. In a natty faux leopard-skin print. Best money I ever spent and I can drag it up three flights of stairs to get it inside quite easily. I'm 58 and am past caring what other people think but they have become quite trendy of late, so I dunno if I'm an old granny in the making or right up there with the latest trends. Honestly, it's a blooming godsend when I have to cart back a sack of cat-litter home. Buy one!

Why am I the only person in my entire family who thinks that an empty loo roll inner sitting atop the cistern or on the bathroom windowsill is not the height of indoor chic?
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

7ww- I would definitely do that, it will all be about distraction I would guess too. Could you go visit for coffee or have her to yours for lunch or something?

You beat me to it kidcat! I would def go with the card idea - personally I would put a little note inside that you are there for her at this difficult time and any other difficult times. She will be upset whatever happens on that day but at least she will feel supported and know that her sadness and grief is acknowledged.

If you are able to spend some time with her that day that would be great - tell her that you understand if she changes her mind on the day and wants some quiet time on her own. People don't always know how they will feel until the time. If you are busy that day or she isn't up to it, suggest a day shortly after to give her something to look forward and a chance to share how she feels.

You are a lovely thoughtful friend.

Way to go SQ - really pleased for you.
7WW - I think whatever you do will be really appreciated. So many times people do not talk about a loved one who has died for fear of upsetting but it can feel as if that person never existed if no-one talks about them.
Kidcat's suggestion is good - maybe somwhere quiet with you where she can have a good 'gos' about her Mum
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Cheers kidcat, SQ and silvasava - alas we're both at work on Monday so we can't really meet up for coffee, and I know she'll be with her family in the evening. I'll definitely go with the card and possibly some flowers if I see some that look right.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

Am de-lurking to ask for advice - I know some time ago shopping trolleys were discussed. After a dreadfull morning shopping in town, OH not being up to helping as he used to, and icy rain blowing in my face from all directions, I have come to the conclusion that I need a shopping trolley. So I turn for advice to the experts ... what specifcation can you recommend, and do I go for 2, 3 or 4 wheels? Are they water-proof? Think I need a Dot Cotton style plastic rain hood too:D
:) Hi there, you can get very reasonable trollies in the £10-£15 mark and they even crop up 2nd hand for about a fiver if you're lucky.

Mum's a fan of the four-wheeler model. These have the advantage that you push them pram-style with your arms in front of you, whereas a 2-wheel trolley is towed behind you one-handed. Depending on your unique physical foibles, this may be an impostion. Most people I know with 4 wheelers tend to tow them behind them when empty on 2 wheels and push them when loaded on 4. Heck, she's even brought timber down from the DIY store with the trolley.

You can carry more weight more easily on a 4 wheeler, and there are even 4 wheelers which have 2 double (buggy-style) wheels at the front for better manoeverability. The 4 wheelers stand square and support themselves and you can balance a supermarket handbasket on the top of them when you walk around the store, which is nice. Also, if you are a little bit uncertain on your feet, a 4 wheeler is something to hold on to. You can even get models with seats to rest upon, if this is something you might need to do when shopping.

I'm very pleased with my Rolser although I appreciate the price tag isn't everyone's range. I'm hoping to keep it forever rather than wear out cheaper trollies, but that's taking a punt against the robustness of cheaper models, which may or may not pan out. It doesn't look in any way superior to the ones off the market which come in as many jazzy designs.

I'm so pleased that we trolliers can bowl around the streets en masse and no one bats an eyelid. I've even seen women (and at least one feller) in their twenties trolleying in this city.

Heh, it'd be one in the eye of the Chancellor if we all left the car at home (not that I have a car) and trollied whenever possible. It's positively heretical, you really feel so much better when you put your heavy shopping into your trolley and bowl off down the road without getting gorilla arms and welts cutting the circulation to your fingers off.

Absolutely cream-crackered today, have spent part of the afternoon in my bed, trying to muster enough energy for the evening. Shan't be late to bed tonight, that's for sure.

:D Aww, thanks, hun, it was the fasting blood test meaning that I couldn't take my meds at the proper time to treat my metabolic disorder which screwed me up today. Plus that time of the month. Gordon Bennett, don't know why they needed 3 vials of my blood to do one test; I'm being treated for anaemia anyroad, don't need to lose any more of the stuff.

I've perked up considerably since 4 pm, it's amazing what an hour under the duvet can do to revive a body. Well, that and the chocolate, of course.............:rotfl:

7ww- that sounds lovely, I bet she'd really appreciate it :)

Have had a unexpected day! Parents surprised me by buying me a new laptop and told me to pay them back as and when I can. The relief is unbelievable. We can afford small payments each month, is a shame we will now have to put off something we were saving for but ho hum. The laptop is pretty.

Unfortunately LO has been crying constantly today, thinking it could be colic :( Thank god for nanny helping majorly!

    Happy Friday all :)

One of the best things I ever did, mine came from Argos...so far so good. Wish I'd got one years ago...
A friend in RL lost her mum at the end of last summer. Even though it wasn't completely unexpected they were a close-knit family and she was pretty devestated. I know she found Mother's Day hard and it would have been her mum's birthday next week. She's already said she's dreading it. I was thinking of geting her a wee card and possibly some flowers just to say "thinking of you". Do you think it's a good idea or do you think it would it be too upsetting?

What a lovely and thoughtful idea. I know I would appreciate such a gesture.
