It's not skilled, a couple of lads from a garden centre or maybe ask at a local further education college and see if they would do it cheaper as it would be students and not qualified people? Even a local self employed gardener might be prepared to lay it cheaper for you, just a thought, Lyn xxx.0

Don't see it as giving in but with the sunshine and having to go out and pay my bedroom tax and other things it gave me something to think of. And I did see my Dr tonight and he's given me some non addictive AD's...I think its all to do with the 1st anniversary coming around. These might just take the edge off things and are v mild so I am still mainly doing it all myself.
That meal sounds a bargain...and I too found two jumpers in the CS and they only cost me £1.98.
I thought my bus pass had arrived today but when I opened the envelope it was for my "Dear " Mum valid to the end of 2018 and a lovely photo of her was a bit of a heart stopper."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

You can get them from the UK Apple store .
Snow leopard is the latest version you can get disks for (you can upgrade it to the latest version via the app store). Assuming your Mac is recent enough (Intel processor and 1GB RAM) then it will run this version, it may be more recent than the version on your original hard drive, but it will read previous versions.
The usual white screen cause is a corrupted boot sector, if that's the case then getting back up and running is fairly straightforward.
Remove hard drive, set boot sequence to boot from CD first (or USB if you get that media) fit new hard drive, inset disk into drive, boot machine, install OS. Put old drive into a caddy and see if you can find your files. Copy them to the new hard drive, back them up twice (different media)
Any queries you can PM me, this may be considered off topic for the thread. (I'm not a Mac guy, but do tech support for 'nix and MS systems.
HTH
I am a Mac girl and the current operating system is actually 10.8.2 Lion, Snow Leopard went out over a year ago.
I am an expert with Mac so any queries, ask away. A copy of OS can be downloaded to a pen drive for a clean install.0 -

this must have been so upsetting for you, i'm so sorry, hoping you'r feeling ok pops0 -
Pops that must have been a bit of a shock. Hope you're OK.
I have the dreaded lurgy now and have had a really busy day ferrying people around which was, let's say, challenging.
DD had her 2nd assessment with the special care dental unit, and after looking at her x-rays they've decided both teeth with the missing enamel need to come out under GA, but not yet. If they wait till the teeth next door are ready to come through it's much better apparently. So all will be fine for another year or so as long as they don't begin to hurt too much.
It's DD's birthday party tomorrow and she's sharing with a friend and having it at Lush which has worked out surprisingly cheaply.0 -

Aw, pops what can I say..just a huge hug, it is a hard thing to go through when you've been so close.
Give the meds a good go, it sometimes is astonishing the difference they make.
Hope you feel better soon, keep yer chin up.0 -
Thanks for your thoughtfulness Possession and White GuinePig. Mum hasn't used a bus pass for years and so it was even more of a surprise and I don't remember the image being taken that was used on it...seems funny that they sent one now. Oh well...
Hope you feel better soon Possession, I have just shaken off my cold and cough(Dr checked me out on that too)and gave my chest and lungs the all clear. I bet my neighbours are happy that is over...me too.
I'm sleeping a lot(drifting off suddenly)soon up for blood tests and appointment with the Cosultant and this time I won't forget to attend.
Been looking into the job I am not looking forward to(probably teeth out, dentures in)NHS Direct and Dr can't really help, been told to go through yellow pages until one accepts me...what a carry on..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Sorry to hear all of you with different problems, always seem to be something one way or tuther....
Ive been off posting for a while, I sort of skim read and run, always too busy with home life....
A dear friend of ours has the exact same stroke as my hubby 2 weeks ago, a bleed on the brain, had ambulance turn up and air ambulance, but poor man died aged only 49 years old, exactly same age as my hubby was when he had stroke too, got children aged 5 years up to 18.....So distressing for everyone concerned, and so sudden, his poor wife , how I feel for her.....
He did carry a donor card and he helped so many people by doing so.......
The funeral was today, not good at all, I went , it snowed so heavily , and was bitterly cold , hubby not well enough to go, also he is far to emotional since his own stroke that we try our very best not to go in to detail about anything to do with illnesses, death , worries, etc he just cant handle problems..........
Ive got hospital appointment in the morning, got to see a lung doctor, only had to wait 5 weeks for the appointment to come through.....
It too cold to take hubby plus dam wheelchair is getting heavier or im getting weaker to push, so ive got someone coming in to look after him for me, the carers want £13.50 per hour:eek:, but ive got a very good neighbour coming in, thankfully, nice to have good folks about...........Sheila0 -
Sheila - ((hugs)) what an awful thing for the family, and obviously its brought back so many memories for you.
And I cant believe you cant get proper help while you attend a hospital appointment its a disgrace, your neighbour is clearly a star0 -
Apologies for taking over this thread with Mac chat but its the easiest way to talk to 2 of you at the same time
Today was semi successful, I've removed the hard drive and by connecting it to a friends mac have got all my work off it. Running Disc utility shows multiple errors and doing some research it looks like its failing.
I've formatted another external drive I have with the idea being I can clone my old hard drive onto this one and then boot from the external one. BUT the cloned keeps crashing.
I have no idea what version of OS I was on so does it matter if I download the newest? My mac is from 2009. Can I download the DMG file from the link given before and put onto a USB stick and then ask the mac to boot from that USB stick with a new hard drive installed?0
