    Congrats Fuddle!

Peanut, what exactly has happened to the laptop? We've fixed a few of ours over the years and some repairs are pretty easy.

    Congratulations fuddle

    ((hugs)) rainy day

Peanut - if you give us an idea of what is wrong with it I can ask my IT guy whether it can be resurrected in some way for you

DS9 has had his birthday today and is still poorly, so had yet another trip to doctor, this time he was give antibiotics. The doctor said that whilst the other doc at the weekend had said that DS was well in himself, that rule couldnt be applied to the auty kids as they often seem ok in themselves when they are in fact really poorly :)

He absolutely loved his pressies though, including his electric scooter which he is desperate to be able to try outside. :)

    Dear Fuddle..........YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I lived nearer and could help with child minding, Alfie walking etc.
I used to look after my DS1's dog when they were on holiday, and if I was still teaching he used to come to school with me, curl up and sleep in the car until I had a break and could walk him, and as that happened 3 times a day it wasn't too bad. Sometimes he went to a friend of theirs who was happy to have him some days but didn't want to be tied permanently. There are all sorts of possibilities and I'm sure you will find one.

    Hester: You would, wouldn't you?

Peanut: What a nightmare. I'd be reluctant to do the credit card thing. Give the other suggestions on here a go and if it is definitely, completely kaput give me a PM and I'll put my mind to the problem. My mind loves problems like this.

It's a mac and I have the white screen of death. I've done all the resets that I've found online and the support websites.

It seems the next option would be to reinstall the operating software BUT when I moved out from the ex's I wasn't given the option to properly pack, so don't have any discs. Plus I can't remember what version I had to source new ones!

Reports say its probably a dead hard drive which will also mean all my part time work from the last 2 years will be lost (yes I know, always back up :( ) so could mean HOURS of re doing work for free :(

A friend is going to check it out tomorrow and if not were going to ring a few companies.

It's done well though, I've had it for a long time.

But if given the option of no income or a big credit card bill, I don't think I have a choice!

If you can confirm its a failed hard drive, remove the old hard drive and fit a replacement. I believe the latest version of OS X that you can buy installation media for is Snow Leopard at £14, you can upgrade this to Lion then Mountain Lion via the app store if you need to.
A USB caddy will cost around £5 and will allow you to access any recoverable files on the hard drive - most hard drive failures are software or affect small areas of the platter and data can usually be recovered.
The principle reason for suggesting a new hard drive is that with no backups you don't want to be trying to write any data to the old hard drive.

Drat - just lost my post.

Rainy-days - are you ok? Sorry if I have missed something in a previous post, so many of us on here I sometimes loose track a bit.

Fuddle - congrats and well done!

Kidcat - poor DS being ill on his birthday. At least he has his scooter to look forward to trying out.

All sorts of stuff going on with both kids this afternoon/eve - too long to write whole story but in summary - both had strops which ended up in long heart to hearts with me (separately), tears shed but all calm eventually and some headway made. Both boys are sensitive souls - glad we can talk things through with them though DS6 can take a lot of coaxing.

All the emotional shenigans meant I didn't have time to cook my chicken lasagne - some of which was earmarked for DH's "college meal" as he took the last frozen dinner out of the freezer for today. Oh well he will have to buy something from the supermarket for once.

Then just settled down to a cuppa and makeshift supper when DH walks in from college to tell me his department have a massive budget deficit. I tried not to let it show (for his sake) but it sounds pretty dire, voluntary redundancies were made last summer and this leaves me with a horrible feeling.Nothing is certain of course and worrying won't help so until I hear otherwise I will push this info to the back of my mind as best I can.

Oh and if that's not enough, not so dear MIL has been in touch at long last. She is planning a visit to UK and hinting strongly about visiting us. DH told her a year ago she can't visit again as we have endured many years of rudeness and insults (mainly alcohol fuelled) and have had enough. I just hope she doesn't turn up on the doorstep!

Anyway I am feeling surprisingly mellow and cosy with the laptop in bed. Tomorrow's another day and I have too much to do to think tomorrow (hopefully)

night night, catch you all tomorrow
    sq:)
