Dear Hester you're a woman who is bursting full of brain
Please go and write your letter, even though it is a pain
Fetch a clean white piece of paper, put your hand around the pen
Sit right up to the table, put your glasses on and then
Go fill up that there kettle, it must be time you had a brew
Put some laundry in the washer, there's so much else that you could do
Fill up the sink with dishes, wave a mop around the floor
Make a phone call to your friend, and then - what's that you hear? The door?
Do not switch on your 'puter, don't think "Just take a look"
Cos there's MSE and blogs and, that evil thing, facebook
Not to mention games like mahjong, minesweeper, solitaire
The day will be half over and you'll be in despair
No it's best if you just start it, you'll be done before you know
Pick up that pen and paper, go on, just do it GO
Just think how you will feel when the thing is finally done
And you can pop it in the post and then get out and have some fun
Clearly - I have too much time on my hands.:oI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Just flying in to wish you all a very happy Mothers day and to thank you all for your support & good wishes for my niece. We're going to the hospital today to see her so I shall get a much clearer picture of what's gone/going on.
Love n Hugs to you all :smileyheaSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

I'd like to say "Happy Mothers Day" too. DS2 has bought me the DVD of "Marigold Hotel" and I intend to curl up on the sofa and watch it this afternoon.
Hope everyone has a good, stressless day!Normal people worry me.0 -

Ummmm, my memories of the early seventies are a little bit muddled as was an ankle-biter back then. Has anyone sighted a macrame comeback?
No, not yet:D
You know I spend times carbooting and retro fair-ing but haven't seen macrame as yet. This could be for one of 2 reasons. Some items were made of cotton or jute string and may well have rotted, especially the plant holders. Others, if made of artificial fibre, may have grown a fur coat of dust and got chucked. They may well have washed OK if not for the wooden beads.
Anyroad, it's a bit full on in my neck of the woods - well, it is when all surviving parents and relatives are in their eighties:eek: - so I may be skimming and running. Hi
Well how could I resist VJsMum's wonderful poem.
It's written, all I need now is the nerve to post it as I know I am stirring up a hornets nest!
Here it is.
Dear Xxxxx
As you may or may no be aware I am due to retire this summer, I was hoping to work for longer but this isn't looking viable due to the nature of my job. Obviously I have no pension as throughout our marriage the plan was to downsize & therefore provide ourselves with a pension.
When our divorce was finalised I was assured by my barrister that the financial side was left open ended as both she and the judge knew that you had moved the bulk of the money offshore. This was done so I would be able to make a claim at a later date should I find myself in straitened circumstances.
I would prefer not to involve solicitors & the costs incurred at this stage as I hope we will be able to come to an amicable arrangement.
I have written this knowing I am wasting my time but if I go straight to a solicitor, the ex will claim that he would have been reasonable if I had only written to him. I know there is very little chance of me getting anything out of him, but I have to try.

Hester - rather than say you are trying to avoid legal costs, could you imply you are trying to prevent him being done for tax evasion?? A vague no wish to see him in difficulties with HMRC type of thing:)
If he thinks you cant afford to fight then he has no reason to settle - if he thinks you would tell tax office that he is evading tax - well he has a reason to negotiate0 -
That's a good idea Kidcat, I can't afford to fight, I'm hoping he doesn't realise it, lol.

just popping my head round the door to wish all the toughie mums a happy Mother's day!
And a lovely day to everyone, whether mums or not. I'm not but I am lucky that my Mum is my best friend in all the world and I will be telling her so in a little while.
Love to anyone feeling down or lonely today - thinking of you too.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Cracking poem, VJ'smum, loved it.
Jem, I take back what I said, your DH is being totally unreasonable, but never mind, TG for a loving mum.
SQ, I feel your pain! The only reason I was able to afford £6 000 worth of repairs (plus paying £7 000 off mortgage over same period) was that I was so used to managing on around £8 000 a year for donkey's years. When I got the extra cash I just carried on as normal and used the money for the aforementioned.
I had my Mum's Day chocolates from DD shared with DGC last night, I am looking at my pretty red kalanchoe, admiring my card and looking forward to a non-alcoholic mulled fruit juice. All from DD.
I also have my steak n' salad to look forward to later cooked by DS. He has limited cooking talents but does a small number of things very well and steak/salad is one of them. Bread from scratch with proper yeast is another.
The snow has stopped and not settled, but gosh, it's cold outside!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
