Nah, Blackie was a neutered tom and had both his eyes. He "wooed" Nan for about 6 years before she relented and he became her housecat until he had to be PTS (inoperable cancer).
Blackie's back step trophy cabinet included all the following, some more than once; squirrels, rats, moles, mice, a stoat, pigeons, other birds, a pheasant, a partridge and the fatty rind off someone's boiled bacon joint. Since his passing the rats have been impertinent and have had to be baited by the council. Oh, and a muntjac deer now saunters around the garden. The only time we ever saw him baffled was the hedgehog.
Mate once saw a coffee-table sized ginger tom fight with a fox. It won after a terrible tussle and foxy ran back into the woods to lick its wounds. Mark you, that was the biggest and swaggeriest ginger tom I ever saw; he'd roll down the pavement, swinging his head from side to side, daring anything to have a go.
Even the rottweillers used to look nervous.
Not sure if Blackie could've taken down a small deer (he was an elderly cat) but I bet he'd've had a go. Would have certainly put the wind up it.
I do love a bit of Discworld. I'd be Esme Weatherwax. I'd like to walk through the deep and loney woods at night, knowing that there were frightening things out there - chiefly me!
If you were a Discworld character, who would you be? Anyone else, please join in............Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I really don't like squirrels. I don't know why. I think it's the way they move - too jerky and quick. Missing my wee cat and wishing I had another one, but the RV won't have anything furry in the house.
I quite like squirrels and was happy watching one do it's bouncy wee bob across the path in silhouette, my glee turned to horror when I realized it wasn't a squirrel but a hoofin' great rat!!0 -
fuddle,
You are not alone. I frequently feel about 6 when the real world gets mean and often wish I could just ignore it all and let some adult sort it out for me.
I never happens, so I have to deal with, but it makes me really tired sometimes.0 -
I knew you'd know who Greebo was GQ.
I'd be Nanny Ogg!!

HesterLMAO, that would have been my guess if I'd've chosen for you. Been reading DW since the beginning, revist my old favourites from time to time.

Hi everyone.
I got stuck at work, yet again and ended up doing an eight day week. Got back Tuesday night, yesterday was spent in various pubs (twas my Birthday so was allowed.) so today has been a mooching about the house day and wearing the washing machine out apart from the expense of putting two tyres on the car.
Peanut: my OH is in the same boat re divorce. He is still married even though we have been together for nearly six years now. His wife started proceedings about four years ago but changed her mind and refused to sign the papers at the last minute leaving OH with a bill for £800 and still no divorce. Although it should be easy to sort now as the court can divorce them without her consent due to time it is not really on our priority list.
Fuddle: You would make a great home carer. You have compassion, are a hard worker and have a good dollop of common sense! I have had so many young girls to train who think it is all just making an old dear a cup of tea and having a chat. They don't realise you have to work hard and have a strong stomach. If you want to do it just google home care in your area and send off your cv, even if they aren't advertising. Go straight to the providers (Mears, Bluebird etc.) The same with care homes. They often don't advertise for staff and is always worth a shot.
I loved doing short visit home care and met some great people and am only doing live in now as the money is better. As well if you get a HC job the have to start you on a NVQ level 2 in H and S care within 6 months funded by the goverment.
We too have a pair of grey squirrels that live in the trees at the bottom of the garden. Their purpose in life is to taunt the dogs by sitting just out of reach and shouting at them.0 -
Hello all,
How are you all? Its been ages since I've been able to get in read. So have lots to catch up on, unless some kind person can give me a quick update.
Well we've finally moved into the new house and were slowly decorating the upstairs. So far so good, just taking time to get everything sorted. The area seems quiet and my children have found some boys to play football with.
Now to chill and have a look on the forum.0 -
Oh I love the hedgehog song, I suppose Nanny Ogg was a bit predictable. I love all the DW, but the three witches are my favourite.
