Just popping in to say hi, basically asleep, but wanted to say I'm finding the autism posts very interesting. I work with autistic young adults, but have little idea of what their childhood might have been like as they're not able to tell us, it's interesting to see what children currently have to deal with, gives a bit of an insight into the adult behaviour of the people I support.

I hope the perfect sensory cat is found soon, cats are amazing therapy!

Mrs L, thanks for asking. I go back to see the opthalmologist on Saturday and we'll talk then about when to do the other eye. I have to admit, it's a bit odd with one eye having perfect distance vision and the other eye being -5.5. That wouldn't be so bad but cataract surgery doesn't correct the affliction that comes with age of not having long enough arms. So I can see very close up with the short sighted eye and I can see distances with the new eye but I can't see what I'm eating:rotfl:
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Cat is in a bit of a huff due to The Incident. Parents have 2 cats, sisters from the same litter, the aforementioned one which we shall call Snooty, and the longhaired cute-but-dim one, we can refer to online as Fluffy. Names have been changed to spare their embarrassment.

Parents have a lot of birdfeeders and they also have two regular squirrel visitors. The cats cope with the squirrels by pretending that they don't exist. It's not uncommon to see a cat and a squirrel on the same fence, about 3 feet apart, carefully avoiding eye contact. Been like this for months.

Anyroad, yesterday, one of the squirrels was on the ground on the patio and Snooty decided this was too much temptation and started to stalk it. What happened next had the folks in stitches.

That bliddy squirrel rang up the currant bush to about 4 feet and JUMPED DOWN ON THE CAT!!!!!! Poor Snooty, she was so startled she ran away and her humans were laughing at her, too.:rotfl:Prey has got no business attacking predators, whatever will happen next, the mogs getting beaten up by sparrows?

By 'eck, when I were a lass, cats were proper cats. Boot-faced ragged eared barely-civilised killers who'd hook you one with a paw as soon as look atcha. One even caught bats fer goodness sake.

These squirrels are getting well out of hand, they've trashed one of the peanut feeders and are having a better-than-fair go at the replacement. I keep telling Mum they're perfectly edible.......

:T Oh, that's the best ever, quite made my night.:rotfl:

The dad-blasted pair at the parents' place (we think one is an adult and the slightly-smaller one a juvenile) have trashed a very sturdy stainless steel feeder and are working out how to destroy its replacement.

The folks sometimes sit in the park which is infested with squirrels, who zoom in on sitters in case they have grub. They climb up on the seat and put their paws on your arm, or even tug your sleeve, as if to say oi where's my grub?

Fluffy cat (never the brightest button on the coat) was sunning herself full-stretch last year on the high step above the patio when a squirrel reached up both paws about to haul itself up (the height of the step meant that it wouldn't have been able to see Fluffy from the patio) and ended up sinking both front paws into her fluffy tummy.

Cat sat up most indignantly and squirrel was a trifle startled too. I watch them evilly thinking I wish Dad hadn't sold his air rifle when we were kids? Oh yeah, totally skint, needed the money...........lucky escape for the squizzes, eh?

Shegirl - thank you, its made more complicated in that he struggles to even speak the school name, and as he has just over a year to go, they are thinking they could spend all year trying to get him back, or admit defeat, move on and get him proper home tuition. I am not sure yet which way to fight, am taking a few days to absorb it all.

Crankys cat is adorable and ideal, as soon as I have DS DLA sorted I am going to have a little visit at Crankys invitation to meet wondrous cat and test fur softness:) As already mentioned a ragdoll is the other possibility but they will need lots of brushing so am leaning towards a Korat. I know someone with a raggy though so will have a little wander there too.

I have been all over the place today getting party stuff done and buying drinks, sweets etc. In the card shop it suddenly hit me that its mothers day Sunday - I had totally forgotten!! So we then had a debate over what to do, I was all for totally ignoring it, but OH says that the littlies in particular are really preparing and desperate to celebrate but that will include my mother. So I have been the better person and bought a gift from the kids - she will probably hate it (am not such a better person after all!) but the kids like it so I am popular :)

I have bought DD6 a book this week to explain the boys autism to her and why they are different, how they are different and why she is treated differently. She actually took it in and am hopeful she gets it - she is even taking the book into school to share with her friends :)

I know how you feel hun! Relax for a few days before you start thinking, you'll drive yourself nuts otherwise!

One thing though, does he come under the new rules with regard to needing to be in education/training until 18?(I'm not sure if you have to be in a certain year at the time it came in for it to apply, hence my asking). If so,they need to pull their finger out to enable him to be able to do something post 16 (had ds annual review the other week,3 hours of them expecting his entire post 16 education and life to be planned when now isn't even sorted!!!!!!There isn't much for my boy anyway).

Good luck and if you ever need a chat you are welcome to pm me
