I thought you grew veggies in grow bags?
Most people here can't afford central heating oil and are managing with just a wood fire in the main room. They are using baby grows or fleece suits for the babies to sleep in and the shops sell baby quilts...special ones that the baby can breathe through should it go over their face. My son grew up in an unheated bedroom and he was very healthy, at the time he had an all in one suit and baby blankets. I never had a problem. When he was tiny I was taught to swaddle him in a shawl, he slept like a log from the moment he was born....“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
2tonsils - I was told to swaddle mine too (back in year dot) & make sure it was done very firmly ( think it was Nursie's cousin) as it gives baby the sensation of being held securely. DS1 had the imprint of the celular blanket on his arm once - but stayed fast asleep:eek: .Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I used to swaddle my babies too - they loved it!0

My youngest DD6 had to be swaddled against all the advice - she wouldnt sleep at all otherwise, she had an overnight hospital stay when she was tiny and the doctor announced I was being ridiculous - babies do not control, parents control - cue six hours of her screaming solidly unless she was held - doctor stormed across and wrapped her up placed her in cot - she was asleep two minutes later!!
Some babies need the sensation it appears0 -
My Ds was a premmie and had to be kept at a certain temp - we had no heating except a nursery heater as they called it. he slept like a log from his first day home at 8 weeks old and can still sleep for England. unfortunatley he had to be home in bed by 6pm in his cot or he would raise hell. He loves his bedClearing the junk to travel light

Crumbs. All this talk about babies and duvets frightens me to death. I nearly boiled my eldest I was so worried about him getting cold. He came out in a red rash and I phoned the Health Visitor in a panic. Bless her, she came up staight away and started removing sheets, blankets, quilts, cardigans, baby-gros, vests...and revealed a poor sweaty little baby. There was no preparation for adopting babies in those days, you just bought a copy of Dr Spock and got on with it. Terrifying, it was. Still they all survived somehow.
Went into Sainsbugs yesterday and was amazed at people pushing round trolleys piled high with food. Where is this recession fuelled economy drive? I wondered. Then I went into P£land and it was heaving, so I felt much better.
Is anyone else tired of horsemeat jokes? Everyone I've met lately has a new one. When I went into the butcher's yeterday he said he had never been so busy. This scare has done his business no harm at all! I bought some belly pork slices and a young girl behind me asked what they were and what did you do with them. Hence I found myself giving an impromptu cookery lesson to the queue.

I am glad that my OH does not read this as he is the broodiest man I know and all this talk about babies would really set him off.
DD2 has got sinusitis again, poor kid is in so much pain. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon.
My youngest sister got engaged on valentines day :j, he got down on one knee and proposed. How romantic, mind you they are both 32, they have been together 17 years and the have 2 children.
Off to see DD1 tomorrow, really looking forward to that. Going armed with a big bag of pasta as requested. At least she won't starve.
Made the Hairy Bikers smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on a muffin for breakfast, a nicoise wrap for lunch and their burger with salad for tea. All very tasty. The burger recipe was for 4 burgers but I got 6 good sized ones out of it so we had one each tonight and the other three have gone into the freezer. They were all really filling meals and I have not snacked today.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Evening All,
I lost a big post earlier. I will try again...
I'm not cold and the thermometer says it is 2degrees warmer than usual indoors and I can still put the CH on if I wish to but as I am under the duvet and I have the option to put on the electric blanket I probably won't bother...and it is after 10pm after all.
I have an oil filled radiator if I thought it inexpensive to run, I'd drag it into the bedroom, close the door and heat one room...
I have been snacking off and on all day and am well over my calorie allowance but though a guide, I eat what I want when I wish and don't worry about it! I have just had two ham rolls...and a cup of coffee.:)
May still have some stir fry later...:p
I treated myself to a small shop in Mr T and used a £5 voucher so it was free. I will try and save the remaining £15 and maybe get a better deal when they double their value. I have £40 in M&S vouchers Mum never got around to using so they could be useful in the future too.
I purchased two books at the charity shop(may have to curtail that pleasure when income reduces in April)but one was "The Student Cookbook - Great Grub For The Hungry And The Broke" and "The Herbal Drugstore"(It tells you which herbs help work for various illnesses and conditions, alternatives to medication, how they work with or against medicines from the Dr)
I see the 5/2 Diet as featured all week in the Daily Mail was in the Daily Mirror today over 2 pages but I still did not part with my 70p.

The free Metro newspaper that I picked up on a bus earlier in the week explained it all in a box 3inches by 2inches."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

GQ, if nursie makes it as far as the south-east coast of Australia, you can be sure my physio would scare her back to you. 5ft 4 of pure steel will and sadism. And I love her, honest.
Mrs LW, the haggis only come out to nip the ankles of unsuspecting English walkers, they'd never bother a Scot. Which is odd, considering it's the Scots who pluck their bushy ginger eyebrows off and boil them alive.
I had the joy of fresh figs from the market this morning. They're so expensive here that I get them once a season at their cheapest. Lovely with a bit of honey and natural yoghurt. We're having a lot of veg roasted here recently, and put into or on various things. I'm revisiting recipes I haven't done for a while which were cheap, like filled pide and gozleme. Forgot what I was missing.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Morning all,
frosty here, everything outside tipped with white though the sun is out - good news for my towels in the washing machine.
A little behind with posts as have had a hectic week, been skim reading though. Hugs to all those in need.
Did my employment skills course - it was excellent. Did a practice interview and on panel for 3 others and observor for 2. Exhausting stuff! Picked up some practical tips, generally re interviews and more specificially re stammering such as how to disclose a stammer at the beginning of an interview in a positive way. Also did snippets of things like mindfullness and set goals and stuff.
I realised fairly quickly that I am still selling myself short career wise - same as I did pre-kids. So many people in RL have been saying "you should do xx) and I have been soaking it all up and not listening to my gut instincts. Now my head is whirring with ideas, been brainstorming and we choose a couple of buddies from the course to share progress with goals before we meet again for a final course date in April.
Last bit of my ramble - I was offered a place on the volunteering training I had the interview for on Tuesday. The panel were really impressed with me. I knew I had an excellent interview as I enjoyed it and we ended up discussing issues around the project after the interview questions had been asked and answered. Feel this week is the beginning of something big for me. So I am full of nervous excitement! Had a big chat with DH about me spending more time/effort/money in investing in training maybe even doing a degree and he said "its' long overdue"
gotta go as DH champing at the bit to get on his PC
Happy Sunday to all
take care
