'supporting each other through really tough times'

I would cut the duvets in half and use for lap quilts or for activity mats. Cutest kids is right - cellular blankets for littlies and then once old enough for duvets I would go to Ikea as they are very reasonably priced there and a low enough togs as designed for kids. DS stil has blankets rather than a duvet and he will be 2 in May - DD moved on to a duvet when she got her big girl bed at 2 but she still has a low tog one and her snuggly blanket in winter and just the blanket in summer. DS will not be getting a big boy bed until he can be trusted not to spend half the night launching himself over the end of it at the floor!!! (At his rate he may be in a cot til he's at least 8 LOL!) I may relent and get him one once he has a save reflex.
Thanks for the support yesterday - feeling much brighter about the whole DLA thing this morning - Ive decided that the idea of not having to complete a form for DS for so long outweighs the negatives! Onwards and upwards.
Right off to pack the car for the home ed group meet up today. The sun is out so I'm going to take DD's new trike for her to show off! In case anyone was wondering what you do on a trike ..... apparently it is called trike - el - ing!!
Hugs to all in need of one.0 -

Weve have a great yellow ball today, its been there since 8 this morning, so I got my ar*se outside all morning, oh how lovely to get outside and see the sun.......
I notice we have daffs coming up, and lilly bulbs poking through the soil, wallflowers about to flower, also got some primroses in flower.....
I had a little tidy up, and feel so much better for it.....
I come in for a sandwich and cuppa at lunch sat down and see alittle blue tit going in and out of one of the boxes, and guess what he was using the box with the camera in, so I got myself to the remote control and got to see him/her going in and out on the tv, and pecking at the entrance, it sound like a minature woodpecker, cleaning the box out, we also have a tiny microphone in there with the cam.......Im so hoping they do decide to nest in there.......................
Last year we had great tits, blue tits and 3 wrens nesting in the garden boxes, but they didnt use the cam box, so my fingers are crossed..........Sorry to go on so much about it, but to me its such a good thing to have wildlife about, it certaintly picks me up no end, after such a long cold wet winter weve had.................................I get so depressed in the winter, even with anti ds...............
All I want to find now is some frog toad and newt spawn in my wildlife pond and I shall be in cuckoo land:D.....
The weather is suppose to be quite sunny for next few days so I say make the most of it.......Catch you later, im off outside again....Sheila0 -
Aw shegar I miss my birds
we have nothing here, no grass (yet) not trees, no flowers and not even the slightest sniff of a spring bulb (as there aren't any planted) worst thing is over my fence are diggers and lorries galore daily as it's still a building site so no point trying to encourage as they just won't come. Don't feel sorry for me though because if I walk out the front door and down the cut I'm riverside and right next to nature reserve. Still, nothing like the sight of feathered friends in your garden.
A peacefully hiccup free day today. Looking forward to the week off with the girls. I don't know what we're going to do but I suspect there will be some strawberry planting going on
Quick q: I can't plant in the ground here so it will be pots only. Thinking about strawberry planting in particular what pots would be best? Of course keeping the cost down... I recoiled in horror at the £20 terracotta strawberry planter I saw.
Another quick q: compost, my nemesis. What variety for strawbs?
Much appreciated0 -

As long as there is some John Innes no3 in it the brand don't matter, it has to be no3 'cause that is soil based and strawberry plant's live between 3-5 year's.
Plastic planter's or even grow bag's are OK, but if using grow bag's re plant the strawberries every year, personaly I use plastic wall pot's, help's keep the slug's off, a broken up polastiren box,a JI no3 base soil with a bit of purlite & water retaining gel crystel's and slow release food crystel's in. But you can get soil mixes with all that already done, they tend to call it hanging basket compost and it does tend to be more expensive, but when your starting to learn about growing thing's it realy does help to have the opion of such thing's.
Terracotta pot's are lovely to look at, but are a pain if you put water hungry plant's in them, the pot is pourose[sp?] unless it has been glazed and is prone to cracking in frosty weather so you need to bring them in or get them up off the ground some how, but they are brillent for growing herb's in, espicaly the meditaraian one's that like dry growing condition's, stuff like rosemary, lavender and thyme.hth£71.93/ £180.000 -

Fuddle, never had any joy with those strawberry planters (you mean the ones with little pockets don't you?) I'd just use ordinary pots, maybe the wider windowbox thingies with stumpy feet, or just plain pots. if you get runners off the strabs, you can root them in small pots at the sides, and then cut them off. Or just cut them off and pot them...I'm sure that works too? (Anyone?) Compost multipurpose, or fruit and veg planter stuff.

Yes Kate just cutting them off can work as long as you'v got a set of root's already coming out. If the root's are not out but you want/need to move the runner then just put it in a pot saucer with water in it and the root's will soon grow and then you can pot it on.hth£71.93/ £180.000

Hello, room for another?
My husband was made redundant last year and has only been able to find a part time job on a third of what he was before. I work part time around my husband's work as we have a young son who is 16 months old. So, we are now living on not very much money at all! BUT, we are very resourceful and I can honestly say that our quality of life is better now than when it was when we were both working full time with all the commuting and stresses that go with that.
We live in a tiny village in the countryside and are lucky enough to have a big garden to grow veggies and keep chickens. We also have a dog and a cat who are completely mad.
Up until about 5 years ago I had never really cooked and didn't know where to start, but with the help of this site (I was previously registered under a different name but can't remember my login!) and this board in particular I have become quite adept at cooking tasty meals for our family at a fraction of what we used to spend before. I also sew, crochet and do lots of other crafts so I am able to make our home cosy and comfortable on a very tight budgetI'm looking forward to joining in on this thread as I have been a bit of a lurker!
