(((Hugs))) Kate. Not sure what to suggest, but if Valentines Day is such a trigger I'd just ignore it's existence TBH. I personally think it's a huge waste of people's time and money, but then I know I'm not going to get anything (even though I'd love it if he got me flowers despite us saying no presents - I know that won't happen).
Have just been a local farm park to look at their rabbits for sale, and don't recall ever having been in a room full of such cuteness before! 4 different litters of baby bunnies, all vying for cuddles. Like heaven really! DD chose 2 but I don't want her to get too attached to the idea of them in case they don't survive the next 4 weeks, or in case they weren't actually 2 females!
PS the fish are still alive!0 -
Have you seen this story about expensive Valentine Gifts?
OK I am not a woman but I don't even like them.
If I had the money I would not even want to buy them.

Your time and small gestures often mean so much more to that special person."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
"Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in" ~ Alan Alda0 -
Time and small gestures are nice, but if you get expensive presents especially gold, you can then sell them when you get dumped, have a face lift, or go on a cruise.

We don't make the world rich by giving cards or presents for 'Days' Birthdays, Anniversaries, Christmas etc. We just say Happy (Whatever) and give each other a hug!!! He's still here and so am I and it's 35 years this year. We have all we need and he sometimes gives me sprouts from the allottment, what more can I ask!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Ooh MrsL - I really am glad I downed tools yesterday & went for the ride with DH - its not really my bag but I do try to show some interest. DGD is coming this afternoon to 'do' my roots & I've filled up the slow cooker with cheap beef (at least it looked like beef!!) & veg, a couple of oxo's & 4tbs balsamic vinegar - it can stew away for the rest of the day now. DH is ensconced in the sitting room with a book so the dusting & hoovering will have to wait - I can't STAND cleaning round someone whose sitting down like my mum used to with my dad.
DH & I don't celebrate VDay ( I put VD & then changed it - lol) as we met 2 days afterwards but we don't celebrate that either - haha. He's not always that demonstrative but I do get flowers fairly often & lots of other things he does as he's a doer rather than a thinker. Ex was always very good at the big satin card & flowers & presents but that was only for show & to cover his guilty conscience for being a total sh*t. I think that's probably why VDay doesn't bother me - I'd cried too many times over empty words & gestures.
Unix - I think that's a really nice idea - I've got a set of heart shaped pans & I'll do DH his favourite Coffee & Walnut & raise a glass to my DM & DMiL
Katie - hugs & wishing you strength to carry on.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Pops - just seen the 'gifts' if I wore those shoes I'd be like !!!!!! Emery (ooh you are awful) & trip & break my neck!! They might have taken three years to make but they're still very tacky.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

The Minder bought me flowers yesterday, he refuses to pay inflated prices on VDay, so buys them a week early, lol.
It's not easy to start from scratch, but it IS doable, I did it, I was 50, life is a struggle financially, but I have my beloved Minder & he makes it all worth while.

I must admit the worst time for me for VD, was in my teens, I didn't get any. My parents started to send them each year (anon) which was worse!0

I've never done VDay, I'm not big on birthdays either, not for adults.....kids birthdays are different of course. So no cards or gifts for VDay either given or expected. It's just easier. Love the sprouts idea Mrs LW, that made me smile.
I've cleaned the garage out, every thing came out, it got swept and then it all went back in (minus 2 loads to the tip) I've had all my wood stacked down one side but typically the plumber will need to get just there to sort the new pipes out for the new boiler. I had a lot of wood to move but it's done now and I'm knackered. Think I'm coming down with something as I'm cold and achy, sitting under a duvet with the fire roaring away....I just keep shouting "tea" at DD1 who is my slave for the afternoon.
