  • Tough one to call NUTTY but try and be kind to you in this and not uncomfortable in a situation you have no control over, as you say whatever you do decide will probably make you wrong in their eyes, but there is you and your peace of mind to take into account in all this as well, Cheers Lyn xxx.

    Morning All,
Hugs to all, many need them with all the worries and sadness happening and some because of those family spats that seem to happen all too often.

But of course some need hugs for those positive reasons too for the support given, someone shows improvement having achieved what may be a small step for us but a giant leap for them, getting/trying to get a job and so on.

I'd say this year is more of the same and possibly could be worse than the one that has passed us by but early days and so I hope it turns out better than feared.

Yesterday it was 29 years since I lost my dear Father. Where did the time go...

They came and checked the electrics yeterday and it was done quicker than they said it would be, they replaced a faulty socket after I told them about it, it was done in seconds...I thought they'd check the system and any faults would be done by someone else but all sorted. It was just that this socket if you used it you had to jiggle the plug of whatever you were using to touch all the contacts.

I went and had a lay down(promptly fell asleep)woke with a start and almost missed my appointment with the Nurse about my stye.

Was told that I had done the right thing and not wasted their time even though by then it was looking better to me and was given some anti-biotic ointement for it.

Mobility was poor yesterday so I was very slow so was glad when I eventually reached home.

Have almost finished the casserole in the slow cooker and had three or four meals out of it...never know whether to call it a casserole or stew...not sure what the difference is TBH.

Slept well, cosy with the electric blanket on its lowest setting so probably did not use much electric...and I'd added a couple of extra sheets anyhow...

I awoke to a white world but not as bad as the radio news says it is "Oop North!" But the sun is shining. Bit blustery...

Also the news that on top of all the other bills(Gas, electric, BT and for some the CT)food and probably the rent...now the water rates are going up...great. They say by 3% but could be more for some...

Nothing new there then...We'll all manage some how because that's what we do...

  • Well said POPS - we WILL manage whatever happens because that IS what we do, wise words. Hope your eye is less uncomfortable today, I know how sore a stye can get, look after yourself, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Pops be careful leaving your electric blanket on all night. My parents did do that (as they've no central heating) but now have a small remote control heater they can put on. They got it from Home Bargains. Its like those pillar fans you get. For a bit of heat during the day for your feet or hands get one of those wheat bags you can put in the microwave. They keep their heat for a while.

    unixgirluk,
Thanks for the suggestions...I have one of those wheat bag things as it happens :p

When the seasons change I'll give up on the blanket and may remove it until winter again(maybe it will last longer that way):)

It has three settings, preheat, All night heat and gentle. It's years since I last used one(Decades more like)and my gran always used one and that would be the last time I even saw one...and that's 16 years ago.

I will look at the heater if I can get into B&M's. I like the sound of the foot warmer mcculloch29 found in Primark but again I need to travel.

Morning/afternoon everyone (started this post in the morning but won't be posted until after 12 :))

Popperwell As unixgirluk posted, do be careful about leaving your electric blanket on overnight. When we use one, we usually try to heat the bed really well before we get into it and then we switch the blanket off. We haven't got one now because we originally leant it to DS2 & DiL because they used to have a really cold bedroom in their flat and then we took pity on them and let them keep it. They are moving to their own place in a couple of weeks and probably won't need it now, but I am quite tempted to buy a new one just for the safety aspect as ours was quite old and I don't think they are too expensive.

Lots of people on here with problems and worries (((hugs))) to every one of you x

Freezingly cold here today but no snow just a mixture of wind, sun and clouds. Managed to clean the bedrooms this morning, which were sorely in need of a good hoover and dust. Did a pile of ironing too, made some bread and a kilo of yoghurt, so I think I've earned my lunch today:D

Pops, until you get the foot warmer you can use the wheatbag over your feet. Its not heavy but will help warm them up. I'd suggested this to my Gran so when she settles to watch a film she has a warm wheat bag over her feet to help keep her cosy and a blanket.

I need a rant. Someone I know (younger) has just had her 2nd child. The father is her current partner and I thought they lived together. Er no, she kept on her place so if she's on a night out she can party there in peace. Its a council house she has and one in a nice area. Now the first child she had is to another man and she doesn't have custody and only get him for one overnight a week (oh and its not the weekend as it would wreck her social life!). So she takes to a certain social media site and start ranting about 'bedroom tax'. Now this woman doesn't work, she's keeping a house as a party pad when in fact she's living with her boyfriend. The council have told her she's not entitled to a 2 bed house as her first child isn't in her custody and the 2nd child is under a year old. So either she loses £40 or has to move. She's moaning this isn't fair! She's hogging a house she barely uses that could house a homeless couple/family . Considering the council offices are only a few doors away from her house how can they fail to see she's not living there! I had thought till she posted that, that she'd given up her house and moved in with her current partner. The greed of some people totally belies belief!

    Hi all.

Not had time to read all through the weekend's news so can only comment on today's posts.

NuttyP: Families Huh! It strikes me that if they had no connection with you at all they wouldn't be the sort of people you'd have any truck with. If I were you I'd keep it that way. I know that's easy to say but life's too short to spend it dealing with this sort of nonsense.

Unixgirl: That's outrageous and the sort of story that makes people misrepresent benefit claimants as scroungers. I could weep for all those people who have to jump through every sort of hoop and then STILL not get what they are entitled to. One of them said to me only last week that he heard about people milking the system and he'd really like to know how they did it as he had absolutely no money coming in at all at the moment and no-one seemed interested in sorting it out. In fact he said that the meal we gave him on Sundays and the food we gave him to take away was keeping him alive.
One of my DS1's neighbours was working the system. They were married and living in the same house but both claiming JSA and HB. Both claiming to be single parents, both working and boasting about the money they were pulling in. DS was livid and made a telephone call. They disappeared shortly after that.

Hectic weekend here. I took a church service Sunday morning, made puddings for Open Arms Sunday afternoon and spent the evening actually at OA. Yesterday I catered for an old ladies wake. I was told there would be only about 12 - 20 people there and there were 51! Fortunately I never under-cater and there was plenty of food so they were able to take doggy bags away as well. This afternoon I am giving a talk at a women's meeting and this evening we are having a previously postponed Christmas Dinner.
Tomorrow I start cleaning the house again!

    Keep warm.

    x
