I dont know if any of you just see the ITV news at 6.30, but they were talking about the bedroom tax coming in this April.....
They reported on a disabled lady in a wheelchair with her husband by her side both were crying because of the tax affecting them @£80 per month extra , they are in their forties, and are in a 2 bedroom place.......They need 2 bedrooms because she needs one bed to herself.........
If you have one extra bedroom that you dont use it will cost you 14 % more, and 2 extra bedrooms that you dont need will be 25% extra.........
Its so terrible to see poor people needing their home like they do in that situation, heartbreaking to see them both cry........
Well people dont have much of a choice really its either pay the extra or move to somewhere much smaller..........Whatever will be the outcome to all these benefit changes this year , I really dread to look too far into this year, no wonder more food banks have opened up....
.After quite a few months when people realise they really cannot pay the extra tax on bedrooms that they dont use , they will by then be in financial dire straits, so by end of summer to autumn we will see a deeper recession than what we have now...........
We think its bad enough now, just wait til the end of this year, it will be a dam sight worse, my predictions.........Sheila0 -
9 and a half pounds!! Makes your eyes water to think of it LOL
Well done mumIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
maryb thanks for the ginger cordial recipe. I very rarely drinl alcohol these days and drink ginger beer instead. I often find it is not fiery enough for me. This should do the trick nicely.
Katieowl how did the trial go for DD. whats your tattoo like?
9lb 70z ouch  congratulations.
OH has been able to dry the washing on the line today whilst I was at work. It always smells great and irons much easier if it has been dried outside.
I stopped eating marshmallow (any anything else with gelatin it) after watching Jamie Oliver's farmer friend Jimmy make some out of a bucket of pigs ears_pale_.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Byatt, I used to work for a water company and they have huge pipe cut offs. Even if you approach workmen laying or repairing new pipes the might give you offcuts. They will think you are nuts but aren't we all![/QUOTE)
Ohhh, thank you, what a brill idea :T, will it be stalkerish for me to start roaming the streets for workmen?Dunno, mate; what were ya planning to do when you found them?:rotfl:
I was just wondering what a mystery odour in my home was and the penny dropped.......cannabis smoke coming from someone else's flat. I should get out there and do an impersonation of a Bisto Kid.
Except I think it stinks...........ick. Can tell it's not skunk because that gives me a splitting headache whereas regular weed makes me queasy.
Been a busy little bee today and am plumb tuckered out, so will spend a wee bit of time internetting, read some of my book and have an early night.
Do I know how to whoop it up on a Friday night or what? Keep warm and well and don't let the dawgies blow away in the wind.

In the private sector, there has been a kind of "bedroom tax" for those on benefits for as long as I've been renting. I had to move from a 2/3 bed (officially 2 bed as I found out but could be 3 bed) to this cottage as a result. They use a local housing rate (LHA) and mine is £92pw for a 1 bed, but my actual rent here is much higher so I still would not be covered for full rent ever. My rent is more than half my income and now of course if I even get CTB I will still have to pay 25% on top.
I have head in the sand syndrome (kind of) so don't watch or read the news as I can just about cope with worrying about myself without seeing everyone else. Not that I don't care, but emotionally don't have the strength to take on other people's worries.0 -

Oh I forgot to say about DD. The trial went OK, they said do you think you'd like to work here, she said yes, BTW I'm pregnant. The lady said Oh how lovely. Fill in this form with all your details and give it back to me. She says they are waiting for HQ to tell them how many hours they can have someone for, and she'll call DD back. So I'm not sure really??? Until she hears back we don't know if it will amount to a proper job? Fortunately she has some helping out with a lady who is homeschooling and has a poorly back, as she's not entitled to a brass farthing of hard cash otherwise. The job centre told her there was no point signing on, as she wasn't entitled to anything, and she'd got 30 years to make her NI stamp up!!! They've filled in the forms for HB and CTB and now she has proof of being pregnant, they've filled in council housing forms too, as the landlord of where they are specifically doesn't want anyone with Kids or on Benefit  so chances are he won't renew with
them.
I keep telling her that I'm sure it will all work out fine and for the best in the end, but she's understandably very worried!
My tattoo is one of these: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2188157/The-astonishing-2-500-year-old-tattoos-Siberian-princess--little-changed-art.htmlI just loved the idea of having something so ancient, it goes with my other one too...that's ancient greek (athena's owl)

We have had a lot of raids locally today on cannabis farms and our entire area stinks of 'weed' now, I think someone locally may have panicked and burned their plants. I have come back from the corner shop with a head ache.
I am trying to keep calm about the bedroom tax but am really angry, they do not take into consideration that if one of you is disabled you need a seperate room - because we are married
I have been told by the housing assoc that there is a discretionary fund for our circumstances but Im sure there will be great demand for these funds so am frantically scrimping ahead of time so I have a safety net. Im also sure that if anything happens to OH I will be liable for it still so I asked about 1 bedroom properties and there are only a few. Im in no win situation but will not be beaten. I understand what you mean Byatt, some days your own worries are more than enough to cope withClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
