Katie if they have been looking for so long surely she has got to be an excellent choice - am now interfering I know but is it possible you could cover her maternity leave, that way she could offer a package deal as it were - kick me for overstepping sorry:)
Kidkat....we were going to suggest that at the 'other place' so it's a possibility, there might be some hours there for me too anyway from the sound of things, the only prob would be that it's (hopefully) at the peak of the B&B season...but if this year is as bad as last, it would all be academic. I'm seeing her later, will mention it!!!

My eldest went to a childminder although it was 18 years ago!!!!!! She is still achildminder. She used to charge £1 an hour per child. We had to provide nappies etc and we all provided certain shopping items per week for the meals. My dad used to get me free veg from the farm, so we took that. They all got toast for breakfast and then had a roast dinner everyday. If we werent there to collect the child by 5pm they were given a sandwich for their tea. My daughter says she enjoyed her time there. They did mass potty training in the summer, with all the potties lined up on the patio. And when they got chicken pox, they all did. After a while her husband who was made redundant, he helped out too.
They did number games etc, all fun but they didnt know they were learning. They had a spare bed in the lounge for poorly children, ie ear ache etc who just wanted 5 mins rest. And if you had a works event they could have sleep overs. She wasnt a childminder, she was like an extra grandparent to them.
Sorry for waffling, but we were lucky to have a nice childminder. We even keep i touch now, she likes to know what careers her offspring have made for themselves.BSC member 137

Can't catch up cos you talk too much. TY for all commiseration as to anniversary lol. We have a really cold gusty wind but a wee bit sun as well. I was going to start strict menu planning but got side tracked into eating sweeties (RV gave me a tin of Love Hearts!) and reading the news. Am going to move in a minute. Really.0

Does that mean you'll be keeping him for another year?:D

See, he's lovely really is that RV
Alfie has been to the vets and has different ear solution. He told the vet what happened yesterday but I don't know if it will be recorded. The vet said exactly what you all said re: consequences and echo'd the idea of the girls leaving him for a few days.
The real good thing is DH also called the charity we got him from, just to keep them in the loop, get advise and really cover our backs should anything come of it. He got talking to the girl who asked what breed. She remembered Alfie as a pup (being a beagle/collie cross) and she said that she thought we wouldn't last a month with him (being a mix of two very demanding/hyper/intelligent breeds). A year and a half down the lineshe asked how we were coping. DH said that he's a pleasure to train and super intelligent but if he was honest we need some help with his excitement when someone comes to the door (it's extemely embarrassing... I mean, very. Loud barking and squealing if he's really excited. She's going to get the trainer to call DH back to help us and hopefully get to take Alfie on some training courses.
DH and I don't like to admit defeat, nor ask for help but what happened yesterday has been the pinnacle for us to get the help with his over excitement. So thank you little girl and Mum, Alf now has the right drops for his ears and I'm going to doggy training with my pup
Er, what any of that has to do with OS I don't know. Sorry
Meatballs and sketty (spag) tonight. Found a recipe that uses mince and pork sausages so trying that and keeping some for a carbonara tomorrow night.
I'm after a pudding idea too. For valentines. We don't buy into it and don't do cards or anything like that but normally DH will cook up a steak with peppercorn sauce and chips and i'll do a desert. I'm lacking inspiration. Not a stodgy pudding as I do those all the time. I was thinking cheese cake or mousse of somesort. Best go peruse Good Food.
Also, while there's still JCB's and builders over my garden fence, there's no chance of getting birds in the garden is there? Nope, didn't think so0 -
congratulations mardatha on your anniversary.0

By spooky coincidence - one of my colleagues brought this into work today. It is fantastic (as long as you like chocolate and ginger) and I may well make it for OH as a valentine's treat!0 -
How about any of these for Valentine's Day?
