    Milly Molly,
As it is your sisters special day it makes it more sad that you are kind of excluded but for good reasons, try not to let it hurt as it no doubt will, you are doing the right thing in the end and hopefully your sister understands and appreciates how difficult it is.

I think you have made the right choice and echo what Meme30 said(well all posters)

Of course it is good to treat yourself and when a budget is limited you are torn between "Can I afford it?" "Should I?" "Is it a waste of money?" "What could I do with that money instead?" But then sometimes the boost it gives to your well being have to be thought about.

It is years since I had a stay in a hotel/guest house and been looked after. Or had a meal out(less likely to do either especially if I an on my own)probably the same for many.

On Saturday I went passed a cafe in a neighbouring town and what was on the menu sounded so nice and to have it cooked by someone else(it probably was reasonably priced too)but what I saved meant almost a weeks worth of food instead for the cost of one meal.

Sounds good to me what you are doing...

Softstuff - you have not had a great start to the year and are entitled to be cross over it, but well done for bouncing back :)
Softstuff - glad you've regained your SOH but even so you deserve some tlc - and your DH too. Sending hugs, wish I could do more. :grouphug:

Thanks both :o. I'm doing ok now, sometimes it just feels a bit overwhelming when things keep happening.

Softstuff - please forgive me of I have missed it but how did your mum get on with your Dads PM? Did everything go ok?

Unfortunately this was another bad happening! The PM itself went fine, and was as expected, there was nothing they could have done, his asbestosis was simply much further along than the consultant had thought. Mum was relieved it went as it did and I thought she would improve after.....

But it was what happened after that was pretty bad and actually made her worse, they reported the inquest, without telling mum, in the local paper. She was lying in bed reading the paper, as she turned the page it was a large headline of dads inquest. Needless to say she called me right away in tears. The worst part was how much personal info about her they'd put in there, which simply wasn't necessary. I looked at press complaints, but they're allowed to report whatever they want from an inquest without informing the relatives.

I contacted the newspaper, because they are connected to another local newspaper so what goes in one tends to be reprinted in the other, and I wanted them to remove some of her personal info (I also wanted to know whey they simply couldn't forewarn her). The editor said they would remove some of the info, and that they were under the impression mum had been told by the court clerk. Mum hadn't seen a court clerk, and when the second paper was printed, it went in just the same.... They ignored my second email. I haven't sent a third as I'd be wasting my breath.

I wasn't going to post about the long palaver on here, and didn't at the time because I was too upset and angry, but since you asked :o

MIssed all the posts as our power went off 10 or 11 times last night in all, I was worried the router would have a meltdown so just came off. We've had another 3" or so overnight, hard to say because of the drifting in the winds, and it's still snowing. On top of 9" from yesterday. RV disappeared to clear the road with the neighbours (again!) but its settling faster than they shovel it so they are stood in a huddle leaning on shovels gossipping instead. But the main road is clear and I think the Borders schools are open.

More hugs your way and to Mum Softstuff, I had wondered too but was waiting until you felt the time to be right to mention it or perhaps it was still not quite sorted. Quite understandable to feel angry and upset...I suspect many such stories cause upset for those involved and are let go because you feel it is impossible to stop them being published or how they are and once in the press, any apology is useless or so small it would be missed.

On a slightly different light...no one has ever really talked to me(Dr's, Nursing Home, Hospital or Coroner's Office)about the sudden way Mum passed away and how the first cause given was pneumonia and yet there was family medical book at the charity shop yesterday and the last two sentences explained more than anyone else has...

That a person with cancer is nearly always taken away with pneumonia. They said it slightly differently but I don't perhaps feel as negatively that perhaps something was missed and that lifts a weight off my shoulders...

I guess sadly it was just your Dad's and my Mum's time...

  • Morning folks,

Hope you are surviving and have a good supply of sweeties Mar. We've got steady snow down here in Edinburgh, but unlike yesterday it seems to be lying today.

MillyMolly, from what you've said I would definitely try and find an excuse not to go to the colleagues meal (even though it will be a bit of a palaver thinking of a reason in advance), it sounds like quite a lot of money for something you won't enjoy. I remember the first time I said I wasn't going to the Christmas meal at work quite a few people came up to me and said they agreed with me and wished they had done the same.

Kez, I'm glad you've found a good local taxi company. My mum is just beginning to come round to using one in this weather - and the drivers seem lovely and prepared to help folk out.

, have another hug - I'm sorry life is being so !!!! at the moment.

And I can report that the Jamie Oliver cake is fabby, well the bits I sampled last night were. I'll get the full verdict from my colleagues later on (it's my birthday cake for this afternoon!)

    Have a good day all.

Morning Toughies, thank you all for your lovely birthday wishes, they are much appreciated.

SQ I had a lovely day thank you, nothing out of the ordinary but kept warm at home and had a really nice doggie walk in the afternoon and some nice fish for supper. We really don't do big birthday celebrations any more but might go out for a pub meal in the village on Saturday as DD1 is coming home for the weekend, it's He Who Knows' birthday tomorrow so we'll paint the town pale pink (Can't afford red these days!) to celebrate both of us being venerable!!!!!

MAR hope you and thr RV are OK that amount of snow is NOT fun and the last thing you need is power cuts, at least you have the stove to keep you warm I just hope you have enough 'emergency supplies' of a very specific nature to see you through to the thaw!!!

Take care all of you and be careful if you do have to venture out and about, Have a good day, Cheers Lyn xxx

POPS have just read your last post and that is the best news I've heard from anyone for a very long time. You can go on with your own life now and perhaps start to find a way of being content again, I am so pleased you found that piece of information in the book, bless you be happy again, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Thanks Pops and yes, when your time's up, it's up. You could well be right as regards Pneumonia, it's the end result of rather a lot of different things.

Thanks 7WW, and have a very happy birthday! All the best folks have their birthdays at this time of year y'know ;).
