MillyMolly - wedding anniversary present - I have no idea, sorry am not good at these things, as I find that after 30 years people generally have everything I can think of, I suppose some sort of hamper might be good but am sure someone will have a really clever idea.
As for the restaurant, can you not go? From the figures quoted I would guess you are talking about £30 minimum for the night, most likely more, you could invite them to yours and do a meal and cake for a lot less and have a good time without all the hassle.
Just back from the hospital and am exhausted, I am finding that the air is making my throat sore and lips are in a right state, so goodness knows how my uncle is feeling after a week in there.
Happy Belated birthday lyn
for the anniversary gift, a cheap USB pen loads with pictures may well be appreciated.0 -
Millymolly, It's difficult thinking of gifts for such events and even worse when money is tight. It does seem a bit much increasing the prices...and sometimes people assume a lot thinking that everyone is ok moneywise(even if not done intentionally)so sorry for not really helping. Then again I won't have such an event through not having family...
I hope you soon feel better Kidcat...my stay in hospital saw me come home with the worst cough I have ever had in my life...and when Mum first was in hospital for sometime, the same again, so what you say makes sense.
You can go in with one thing and contract something else...I feel reasonably ok but may have a little head cold but so far only one nostril is affected."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Evening everyone, hope everyone is well and keeping warm:).
Happy birthday unixgirluk :bdaycake:hope you had a lovely
day!
Belated birthday wishes Mrs LW :bdaycake:
We still have around 6 inches of lying snow here and it's absolutely freezing.
Had to go to the dentist today and had a very odd experience, this is the 2nd time this has happened, but no prior problems. When the dentist injected into my mouth to numb the gum, I had a really unpleasant feeling, I could feel my heart begin to race and then this really strange pain started to radiate around my jaw, both sides, and at the back of my head, I started to shake a bit and broke out in a bit of a sweat. About 30/60 seconds later it was all over and I felt fine but the injection didn't work and the area didn't go numb. So I had a 15 minute break and then a different injection, no strange reaction this time, but still no proper numbness in my gum. The end result, only a temporary solution and I will have to go back again in a month for another try:eek:
My perfect day culminated with an overbaked Camembert. which split and the inside ran out and stuck to the tin it was in. Our dinner was HM Pasta Bake, which for some reason was disgusting and although I hate to say it will propbably find it's way into the bin:o Pud was OK HM Pear and Apple Crumble, but a Banana Loaf I made for DHs packed lunches is a soggy mess. What date is it today?:(
Fell asleep with toothache and sore mouth and have woken up cold, so I think it's an early night here and a hot choccie.
I have not had the greatest start to the New Year healthwise, what with my slipped disc and now this -not exactly looking forward to my next dental appointment. However, tomorrow is another day.:)
Keep safe everyone.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Happy Birthday Unixgirl, sounds like you're having a nice one. Cheers, hun, I've had a happy flashback to that day. Ghastly business all round. If I ever get to meet my Maker, I shall be having words about a few design flaws I've become aware of over the years. The non-detachable baby carrier being one of them.
Sheesh, I think you should come as a basic model and bolt on the bits you're gonna use, as required.
Oh, I love that :rotfl: Better still, you could come with all the extras attached, but be able to easily trade them for something you actually need.
Stiltwalker, I used to love my Berlingo, good in any weather. It's one of the things I really miss over here since they don't sell the car version. Even hubby would like one as it'd fit his bike in easily.
Millymolly, they're often doing offers on photobooks on the grabbit board, how about making one of those with pictures of them both over 30 years?
Sorry to hear about your dentists visit Elizabunny. Might be worth visiting the health and beauty board and asking Toothsmith (a dentist on there) if he knows what happened?
I had a few days of being inordinately angry at the world for what's happening at the start of this year, but am now feeling resigned and have regained my sense of humour. Poor hubby is now suffering with his 4th and 5th skin complaints, so following a visit to the docs yesterday, his bathroom regimen takes a now extended 45 minutes. Which sort of cuts the time in a morning he can give me a hand as I lurch around. Ho hum.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
:bdaycake: Belated happy birthday to unixgirl and mrsLW - hope you've both had a good day, girls!
We had shepherd's pie for tea as I didn't go to zumba due to the weather, some left for tomorrow too. Had 5-6 inches of snow by the end of the day, not sure if more's forecast, but it will freeze - esp as half the street has cleared paths, drives, etc.!
The only thing I could add re the anniversary is a box containing 30 things that have meaning for the couple - some could be really cheap/free/silly (painkiller/indigestion pills for morning after, ear plugs for his/her snoring) and some could be connected to special times or memories for each one of them - not original, but you can make it as simple/complicated/cheap/expensive as you fancy. HTH.

(Millymolly:- Can you put together a dvd of pictures from pre wedding to present day. Events children etc. Maybe make a little memory hamper/time capusle for them. If they got married in the 80's there will be many things you can find,,,thinking lurid eye make up, shoulder pads and men's aftershave of the time. Drinks sweets, should be easy to find and not too costly. Wrap it up in some cellophane. Spend time rather than money, but the effort will be appreciated.
Adding £7  cheeky I think!)
Thanks but really don't think it would be appreciated.
Thinking of giving a bottle of wine/ champagne out of the cupboard (glitched wine/ champagne prev gift) Do you think this would be ok

Thinking of this really can't afford it and there's about 30 going nearly all staff. Also got 3 weddings from work this year and they're already discussing hen do!! One bride has asked for money

Thats exactly what I think some of them say they're skint when they mean they can't have hairdone that day. not that they don't have a penny left the day they get paid
Not great at multi quotes either
Starting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

Eliza - totally forgot to say earlier, you sound as though you are reacting to the anaesthetic, which isnt good as each time the reaction can get worse( I have issues with anaesthetic) I would recommend asking your dentist to refer you to a specialist dentist with more anaesthetic options and better back up just in case
Softstuff - you have not had a great start to the year and are entitled to be cross over it, but well done for bouncing back0 -
You've done fine...I wish I could remember who but sometime ago someone was not very well off financially and they were expected to attend a wedding and stay at an expensive hotel.
Chances are they'd have love to but to assume that we all have the means is wrong. Sadly, this is going to happen even more I fear.
I think the first option sounds ok to me and if it isn't it is their problem...all the best Molly."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Happy Birthday to more January Birthday girls! For yesterday: Mrs LW and just about for today: Unixgirl. Hope you had a nice day unix & glad you were able to have a meal out yesterday. Mrs LW, come on don't be shy - how was your special day yesterday?
Oh Eliza, you poor love. Sorry to hear about your trip to the dentist and now I remember you are the other person with back trouble (as well as kidcat). Hope you feel better soon and have a better day tomorrow.
Softstuff - glad you've regained your SOH but even so you deserve some tlc - and your DH too. Sending hugs, wish I could do more. :grouphug:
Millymolly - Just thinking of what I did for a relative's wedding present - although it was a wedding gift, I made a box to be opened for 1st anniversary. Included a bottle of sparkly wine and a couple of (inexpensive but nice/stylish) glasses and then around the edges little things to do with "love and pampering" (you could alter the theme to suit) - such as love heart sweets, heart shaped bath confetti, little candles etc and we made a CD of suitable love songs. I chose a lovely box (you could always cover a plain one) and used nice tissue paper and those sparkly confetti bits. If you know they had a particular colour scheme for their wedding, you could incorporate that?
or are you any good at making cakes - a big one or 30 small cakes maybe?
whatever you decide, don't spend more than you can afford. Personally I have turned down invites to weddings, hen dos and meals out etc several times especially when they involve hotel stays etc - it's becoming a habit. We just can't afford it and I no longer feel awful about it.
oh and the meal out - could you just turn up for coffee and pud at the end instead of the whole meal and discretely tell the waiting staff you would like to pay for your own. Bit of a long shot but I've done something similar before. Or take the person out for a pre-dinner drink beforehand or a coffee at lunchtime?

Softstuff - please forgive me of I have missed it but how did your mum get on with your Dads PM? Did everything go ok?0
