Well I have to send greetings for yesterday Lyn but as you say lets forget about the number..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Happy birthday Unixgirl and Mrs L!!
Our ice/snow looks quite mushy but very low temps forecast tonight so I guess that means it will be a skating rink tomorrow. After this morning's abortive attempt at getting to school I'm not looking forward to tomorrow morning. : (0 -
Happy birthday Unix.
Our snow has been melting steadily, lots of roof avalanches which scare the living daylights out of the cats. There's still lots about though and the roads are still white. We're forecast a smattering over night but I'm guessing it will be more sleet than snow. The cats are all eating for England and are really unsettled so I'm wondering what's coming next. Both DH and I have a sense of unease.
DDs school closed again tomorrow and other DD isn't at college so another family day in the warm for us. There's been jigsaws and card games today, I love it."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Thanks POPS at least it hasn't quite got to three digits yet!!!!!0

:T DD's school is closed tomorrow. DS's isn't but he doesn't need a school run as we only live half a mile from it. DD's school is on an estate where you go down one side road to get in, through the school and then another side road out (bet the residents love 9.00 and 3.00 ), having taken her in for her exam and was sliding about all over the road I can see why they have decided not to open - it would be chaos and dangerous. DD said there is a path cleared from the drop off area to reception and another to the gym where the exams are and everything else is a skating rink. I guess they are going to have to do something though as they can't leave school shut for a week until it thaws.
Having been away for a week, I can really notice the lighter nights. Not dark till 5 :T No blue Monday for me today either. Even with the snow I feel that spring is just around the corner.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Happy birthday Mrs LW and Unix :bdaycake:
Mr VP met me a work today to walk me home. DD was lying in waiting behind the car with a bucket full of snowballs. You can guess the restI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Happy Birthday Unix and belated Happy Birthday Lyn.
Dcided to go pick up DH as it didn't look too bad out and I'm pleased to say that Bernarde handles well in snowy weather!
Had poached chicken for tea and I've made chicken and sweetcorn pie for tomorrow and I've still got one nice big chicken breast and 3 pints of stock left.0 -
not sure where to write this but wondered if anyone had suggestions for a 30th wedding anniversary present (sister). Absolutely skint , not enough coming in to pay everything:(
I am also invited to a 50th birthday at a restaurant (surprise for work mate). We can choose from 2 price range menu's but the organiser wants us to add £7 for decorations, tip, present and cake. The reataurant has already increased the ind price of dishes on their special price menu by £2 - £3 which I think should cover the tip.
I know everyone will think I am tight but seriously skint, everyone says we have to the end of feb to pay but I don't think anything will be better then.
I just feel so bad never having any moneyStarting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

Silly I know, but I am not taking the chance. I can little afford being sued by some compensation freak.I thought it had been clarified that you wouldn't normally be responsible? The court case that was based on was where the woman did something frankly stupid (poured a kettleful of boiling water over the pavement which promptly froze into invisible glassy ice ie she CREATED the hazard). If you clear it and put down grit or salt it should be OK. I do warn people who walk by while I am in the middle of clearing snow and say clearly "do be careful, I haven't put any salt down yet"
Grey Queen you work for the LA in your town - what do they say? Most certainly do. We get asked this a few times and tell people there's no probs about them clearing the pavement outside their homes. It's a powerful urban myth, we think that it originated in the USA where it seems to be a common risk.
We're encouraging people to self-serve from the grit bins on suburban streets. Ideally it's meant to be used on public pavements and/or roads but we can't police them if people choose to take some for their private garden paths/ driveways.
Just have to hope people will exercise good sense and have a thought for their neighbours' needs. We do wish people would understand how far the mixture goes (1 litre treats 20 sq meters of road or pavement) as a lot of people fling it about willy-nilly which doesn't achieve anything extra.
Just to clarify the point ...

Millymolly:- Can you put together a dvd of pictures from pre wedding to present day. Events children etc. Maybe make a little memory hamper/time capusle for them. If they got married in the 80's there will be many things you can find,,,thinking lurid eye make up, shoulder pads and men's aftershave of the time. Drinks sweets, should be easy to find and not too costly. Wrap it up in some cellophane. Spend time rather than money, but the effort will be appreciated.
Adding £7  cheeky I think!
