Happy Birthday unixgirl
Mega busy here, had horrible meeting this morning and after a nightmare journey to get everyone to school the stress really hit my back.
Came home and had lunch and painkillers but then out for pick ups.
Got hospital tonight, thankfully OH is off so doing swimming lessons with DD6 so I at least am not crawling about the floor trying to get her dressed!!0 -

'ditto' no honestly I cannot just post ditto and leave, have a lovely day Unix, you deserve it while you are going through a tough time.
we have a bit of snow but its drippy so hopefully we will be fine. Hugs to all who are in the depths of snow and/or freezing. Potato hash bubbling away, then I realised I intended to make chill bit never mind we need a real ribsticker in this weather. May pop a few dumplings in too. OH doesnt eat much nowadays so have to tempt him with anything I can. Pancakes and eggy bread have to be cooked at midnight if he will eat them. I hate the smell of eggy bread, it makes me heave .
DD Dgs and his daddy all went sledging earlier and little man loved it. His daddy is very outdoorsy type of man and needs little excuse to drag them out in it but Im convinced it does him good, especially as Daddy is very strict about wearing the right gear - Im guessing he has not so fond memories of doing it the wrong way
We are still housebound and Im doing well, keeping busy whilst hubby snoozes...and snoozes...etc...Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
Have not posted for a few days as I have to post in between the horrible storms we are having. Had a hailstone white out this afternoon that was quite scary to be honest. It went pitch black outside in just a couple of minutes and then all hell broke loose. It is now quiet again for the time being but the wind is getting stronger again. It was howling this afternoon.
Made a lovely soup out of fresh chicken backs and leeks the other day. We get the chicken wings attached to the backs and I roast the wings but the backs I use for soup and take the bones out of them. I put some leftover mushy peas in the soup and it was lovely.
Tomorrow I am going to cook a ham shank with some onions and leeks and we will have it sliced with veggies for dinner tomorrow night. I will used the stock to make a nice soup and I have some pre cooked chickpeas in the freezer to put into it.
The little job is still going well and I have been lucky enough to keep the internet during all the storms.
Stay safe in the snow and ice, it looks horrendous on Sky tv reports!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
Couldn't use it but when in a neighbouring town on Saturday with a proper butchers, they had cooked ham shanks in the window, cheaper than uncooked ones on my town.
Purchased my first Haslet today.
Wanted to go and see if there was any bargains yellow stickered but walking is difficult because of the snow and my slow unsteady gate.
Splashed out on two books at the charity shop. One about herbs and the other is Eating for good health.

Met Office says we could see the thaw starting by Saturday but the snow has to go somewhere and we will have rain too..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

:bdaycake: Happy Birthday Unix.I thought it had been clarified that you wouldn't normally be responsible? The court case that was based on was where the woman did something frankly stupid (poured a kettleful of boiling water over the pavement which promptly froze into invisible glassy ice ie she CREATED the hazard). If you clear it and put down grit or salt it should be OK. I do warn people who walk by while I am in the middle of clearing snow and say clearly "do be careful, I haven't put any salt down yet"
Grey Queen you work for the LA in your town - what do they say? Most certainly do. We get asked this a few times and tell people there's no probs about them clearing the pavement outside their homes. It's a powerful urban myth, we think that it originated in the USA where it seems to be a common risk.
We're encouraging people to self-serve from the grit bins on suburban streets. Ideally it's meant to be used on public pavements and/or roads but we can't police them if people choose to take some for their private garden paths/ driveways.
Just have to hope people will exercise good sense and have a thought for their neighbours' needs. We do wish people would understand how far the mixture goes (1 litre treats 20 sq meters of road or pavement) as a lot of people fling it about willy-nilly which doesn't achieve anything extra.I will go back and fetch her after as I don't want to trust to trains in case the snow does worsen. I also have one of those tests that ladies regularly have to have - GQ I will be thinking of your "shouldn't we at least have had a couple of dates before we get to this point" :rotfl: Hope she warms the scopey thing they use (sorry Pops, TMI!:p).
Such fun!
Sheesh, I think you should come as a basic model and bolt on the bits you're gonna use, as required.Tin of soup and ginger pud, sorry x
Oh, I will so miss that phone when you get proper internet! They're gonna be tims of soup in my household forever now.
Been doing a variety of interesting stuff and mercifully haven't ordered a grit bin refill all day. We had 3 inches more snow overnight but none during the day. Weather was clearing out at dusk and temp dropping. Going to be baltic tonight. I may even fill the HWB.
Gosh, do I know how to live or what?:rotfl:Keep cosy, people and remember to keep the calories stoked; chocolate and sweeties are practically mandatory at these temps.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Happy Birthday UNIXGIRL. hope you have had a happy day. Was mine yesterday but, I've stopped counting now as it is too big a number, I can't believe I'm that old, silly thing is I don't feel any different to how I did at 25, sometimes a blessing (if it goes right) and sometimes not (If I get stuck!!!!!). Cheers Lyn xxx.0

envy is not an attractive trait, but i am very envious of everyones snow.
it came down last night and left a nice covering and has snowed lightly all day, but the snow has all melted and the temps have been pretty mild.
dd was definitely too ill for school and has slept on t he sofa for most of the day. i thought i was comeing down with it too so had the day off work and feel much better now.
