Have had abit of a bake-a-thon today. I have made a variety of 1lb loaf cakes; there are now 3 each of banana, wacky chocolate, ginger and boiled fruit in the freezer and a banana in the box. This will hopefully keep the boys going for while, especially if I add in some choc chip muffins and an iced traybake every so often.

DS1 was back at college today, DS2 is officially back tomorrow but had a science revision session as he has a GCSE on Wed, and I am back tomorrow as well.

I have also noticed the rising food prices again, and jokingly said to DH it will soon be 101 ways with mince or sausages for dinners.

Dinner tonight is going to be roasted chicken legs which I'll strip before serving with all the trimmings. Can then use the bones for stock and hopefully some of the chicken for another meal.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

    So we’re empty nesters.

Fuddle: I shall tell DS no such thing. It comes to something when your children read you the riot act! I didn't know there was a dedicated 5:2 thread. When I get timothy I'll investigate.

Please be careful with the 5:2 diet, if you are diabetic or likely to experience low blood pressure or blood sugar levels you will need to be very aware of how it affects you on the very low calorie days.

I have to admit, I am vary wary of this diet. Probably because I don't think I could do the very low calorie day. Also I have extremely low blood pressure (apparently I have a childs blood pressure!) and am affected by changes in sugar levels.

I haven't lookd at this diet , but if it involves eating for 5 days out of 7 then fasting the other 2 then that's how I eat. That for me, feels better. But I'm very sedentary and don't go out.

That makes two of us...I was thinking of the effect of the feed day after a day of fasting on people with diabetes etc but I suppose it would depend what you were feeding on.

I also have low blood pressure, its normally around 95/65 with a resting pulse rate of 51 in the morning. The cardiologist just said it was due to my fitness and unless I started fainting they wouldn't do anything about it . I have never fainted in my life but I do watch my blood sugar levels for getting low as it makes me feel sick and irritable.

My endocrinologist told me that I should not go below 1500 calories a day to lose weight and that I should keep the meals evenly spaced. He says that many thyroid problems are made worse by yoyo dieting . I can believe that as I am a judge in bodybuilding contests and many of the contestants retire because of thyroid/metabolism problems because of the many weeks they spend on extreme diets, then overeating once the contest is over.

I competed till a couple of years ago ( I won my last contest at age 55) when my metabolism crashed on me just before I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I now have it under control and my metabolism working again. I studied nutrition and qualified as a Health education officer before deciding I wanted to do something totally different LOL

Incidentally, BMI is quite unreliable as a measure of healthy weights, its far more accurate if you can find out your bodyfat levels and go by them. BMI does not take into account the amount of bodyfat compared to muscle.

    Evening all

I'm brrrrrrrrr chilly today, just don't seem to have got warm all day. Was awake far to much in the night with eldest cat declaring his undying love at regular intervals, honestly this cat sleeps 22 hours a day normally, since Christmas he's been like a kitten. He kept pulling back the duvet (his party trick) but I wasn't playing. Came down to three huge piles of cat sick so bless him he probably was hungry.

It's our anniversary so we've done what all good MSErs do and spent nothing on each other and spent a romantic 20 mins sitting in the car on the way too and from the supermarket (he stayed in the car whilst I shopped). Dinner tonight is a candle lit FB pie (well someone's gotta eat them) with oven chips and a pint of water. You know what though? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Got a chicken roasting for later in the week, lots of bendy veg roasting up for a nice hearty soup and I might even go mad and open a tin of peaches for pud!
