Woke up irritated this morning. Since I was on those tablets for shingles (which stopped a couple of weeks ago), I haven't been sleeping right. I've done everything that normally works to encourage a good nights sleep and it's not happening. I keep waking up through the night and having stupid dreams. Grrrr.
Anyway, on a brighter note, I made a couple of quiche and did some baking yesterday. I realised whilst making the quiche that it's months since I last made pastryI guess I'm on the up.

Just found out two of Elizabeth's classmates (youngest dd) have been off this week with chicken pox.....she hasn't had it!..... what is the bloomin chances she has it Christmas day? (think the incubation period is around 14 days)
On an os theme have loads of food in the house since oh's job finished but my i'm using an awful lot of gas and electric and not even enough to keep us warm without extra layers!
Enough moping anyway, hugs to all in need of them x
My two both had chicken pox with less fuss than a cold, a bit of carpool and piriton and they were fine. Just stock up your medicine cabinet and get ready for the itchiness.
As for trying to keep warm, I'd advise getting out and about as much as you can (if it's possible) warm yourself up in the library, a good run round the park and then even the coldest of houses feels warm and cosy. Lots of hot drinks and blankets to snuggle into help.

heavenleigh - I agree stock up on the stuff now and that way you can minimise the disruption. Dont forget bicarb if you add it to the bath water it helps with the itching.
Watch for temps and floppy, difficult to wake etc, all mine have had it but DS14 got extremely ill and it was touch and go at one point. He always gets these things much worse than anyone else so its rare but just be aware and keep vigilant.
To be fair its not a bad time to get it, they are off school anyway and you will likely have well stocked so wont need to be off to the shops.
That said heres hoping it has passed you by this time and they are all fine:)0 -
My eldest son had it and honestly it passed with no bother he probably had less than 20 'spots'
Eldest daughter caught it 2 weeks later and it was horrendous! She got them in her ears, mouth, eyelids you name it.
Youngest son, i'm racking my brain i'm sure he had them but can't think of the details so must have passed without concern!
Youngest dd on the other hand who hasn't had them was a pain in the butt from the moment she was conceived not even born!
All day and night morning sickness, first scan showed signs of downs syndrome so put me through worry/waiting for all cvs sampling tests to come back clear. 3 weeks early with a placental abruption putting an end to my home birth and then when she came out a retained placenta!
If she gets chicken pox she will make me pay believe me! lol
I have a good stock of calomine lotion, calpol etc just want her to enjoy her day and not end up with a load of scars like her sister did :0) thanks all xxI will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -
Evening all, hope you all had a good day. Glad the candles and good vibes helped Mardatha. It seemed like a long day at work today, glad that I am on leave after tomorrow although if I do not get everything done I might have to work Friday.
Once I finish work I can concentrate on finishing off the Christmas preparations. Still have a few presents to buy (not too many) and have not written any cards at all yet. I don't have too much to do really but I am used to being a bit more organised at this point.
Visited my nan in her care home tonight, my mum and sister gave her their Christmas cards and this kept her entertained for a couple of hours taking them in and out of the envelopes and reading them repeatedly but it made her very happy.
My sister has given me a kit from Tes*o for making Christmas pudding ice cream, she was raving about it having already made one. I think I will save it for Christmas day. It looks very tasty.
Have a good night everyone.
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

brrrrrrrrrr i'm freezing and the heating's been on all day:eek::mad:
I didn't attempt to make some leg warmers today, instead i did paperwork, got some invoices written out and sent. Phoned a couple of jobs hopefully will hear from them soon.
Oh carried on doing bits upstairs, but kept on being interrupted with people turning up or the phone ringing.
Me and my OH had a bit of a bust-up over CAMHS and whether to carry on with them. Last time we were there the OT said it would take a couple of years to get a diagnosis as ds2 is a complex child. He's high functioning but he bounces all over the autistic spectrum, he's also showing more signs of aspergers and adhd as well as developmental delay and dyslexia. We don't want him to be labelled, but at the same time the whole system works on being labelled. Its so hard to figure out what is the best possible action to take.
The only reason ds2 got an educational statement is because i fought tooth and nail for it, my OH didn't sign any forms, attended meetings or anything, it was all me. Now we've got the statement we now effectively don't have to fight for a diagnosis.
But i still think he would be better off with a label than not, especially in terms of leaving secondary school if he can't handle it and being able to go to a specialist school. but OH is refusing to have any of it and it saying i'm making out that ds2 has loads of things wrong with him when he doesn't.His reasoning is if my parents could look after me (ds2 is lot like him as a child) then so can we.
Fuddle - just ignore them, that's what i do hard i know.
mar some good news is on the horizon. Hows your daughter is she okay? sounds like a very nasty fall.
kidcat - fingers crossed all goes well with the school
Pops and McCulloch sounds like you both had a great night!
sorry to hear about your gran uni.
softstuff glad your on the mend!0 -
kezlou - I was very anti label, however I have ended up fighting to get one for DS14, originally to get him the support, but we have now been able to access that at least and I considered dropping it but DS actually wants it. He wants a piece of paper to tell him why he is different and help him explain how hard it is. He cried when we discussed not fighting any more so we fight on.
Have written three cards today, got living room tidied ready for cleaning tomorrow and then begun attacking the dining room. Tomorrow is group so not much will happen here but at least the seeds are sown to get moving again on Friday.0 -
kezlou: I'm all for a label as it makes it easier to explain to other people. When someone complained that my DGS was peeing in the pub garden fish pond, it was a relief to say that he was autistic and not just badly behaved. It was also a relief that he was accepted into a special school which he absolutely loves.
heavenleigh: hope the spotty ones get better soon. My two had no childhood illnesses at all but both managed to acquire chicken pox in their twenties. They were very ill with it - hallucinations, the lot. They are both in their 40s now and neither have had mumps in spite of my heroic efforts when they were small, including sharing a school car run with a family of 4 who had it one after another and a weekend stay with 2 children who came out with it the second day we were there.
Christmas? Oh, please don't. I want to get organised, really I do but life in general is tying my hands behind my back. Spent the day looking after the Rev and dealing with an endless stream of visitors. Getting meals is about all I have time for.
Never mind, a long cuddle with my gorgeous 12 week-old DGD made it all worth while.

monnagran - I may have missed it earlier and I apologise but did the Rev actually get the operation this time?0
