Good Morning everyone! I had a lovely sleep last night with a well behaved hamster - shame i have woken up with a croaky voice and ended up squeaking instead of shouting up the stairs for the children to get a move on:rotfl:.
My eldest had a letter yesterday that made her cry - for joy. The flat will be ready for her to view the day after boxing day and if she is first viewer (they invite 3 people to view each property and we are not entirely sure if she is first viewer) then she will accept it, go to the offices for an interview and if she passes that interview will be allowed to sign the tenancy which will start on New Years Eve. She was able to get her social worker to call her straight away and the social worker is going to call the housing association to clarify where exactly my daughter is in the viewing queue and she also has to sort out the weeks rent they charge everyone as a deposit that has to be paid no matter what your financial circumstances are. She is a student with no income bar the allowance social services give her and there is no way she has £114 to pay the deposit. Social worker insists that she just has to apply for housing benefit but the letter says differently.0 -
Morning all,
Another cold and frosty one here. Nice to hear some good news for a change - Mar, I hope the chink of light for your family grows, and sevenup that sounds like something positive for your daughter.
We heard late last night that one of our relatives had had her baby: fancy being born on 12/12/12!! All are doing well and hopefully we will see them at the weekend.
Well I can report a wee bit of baking success. Last night I managed to bake 2 doz fairy cakes, some biscotti and the gingerbread my colleague gave me. Not terribly impressed with the biscotti recipe though: I was using one from the M*rrisons Christmas mag and it said after the first baking cut on the diagonal into 3cm strips. Well I cut it and looked at it and thought - that can't be right. Sure enough checking with several other recipes it turns out it should have been 1 cm strips. Thankfully I was able to go back and re-slice the slices. So thank you baking Aunties, I feel a bit more confident about Christmas baking.
Have a good day all.0 -
Seven up thats good news, I hope the flat is right for her and they can pay the first rent for her. Its so difficult to find somewhere now, children should be able to try living on their own and having their own space.
Stiltwalker, thats wonderful, I know how much it means to have communication with a child. Your little one seems to have found the true magic of Christmas - pity more people dont let their children experience it instead of commercialism. Of course you may not get much sleep nearer the dayDGS has speech therapy today and his childminder has asked to be present so she can learn what to do -she is amazing and so supportive. I think the therapist is in for a suprise today as he is now trying to say alsorts of things and we have sentences sometimes - not totally understandable but that doesnt matter.
as for the Clampetts thats exactly how my brothers wife see's us and I really dont care but it does stop me from having any kind of relationship with my brother which is sad and cannot be fixed - I have tried.Clearing the junk to travel light

stiltwalker - Christmas miracles
am not sure if you remember but my DS14 had a mute phase last year that lasted three months and was so scary for me, then just before Christmas he spoke again, whilst I remained calm on the outside I wept inside with joy.
sevenup - How exciting I do hope she gets it.
Have woken very fuzzy today, took painkillers last night at eight, and they didnt do anything for the pain at all, then just after midnight they kicked in and have left me feeling strange all night and fuzzy this morning. No idea why they didnt kick in till so late.
Have moved onto my second phase of preChristmas organisation and bought the sprouts today, am planning on blanching them and freezing later.0 -
My fingers are crossed for her Sevenup.

Hi everyone, have had a busy morning so far. Ive been to the doctors again re the IBS. It is just so bad at the moment, infact i have had to ask for a skin transplant as parts of me have been acidically removed!! As nice and understanding as my doctor can be, he said stress makes it worse - yes i know!! So i now have 2 lots of prescriptions to pay for today. And i have work, so thats 8 hours of trying to sit comfatably.
I have left OH and my youngest tea in the SC, just diced prok in gravy with veg. They will have bread with it. So thats all sorted.
Nice to read some humerous stories on here, the fight with pipe lagging - my DD did this in the local diy store when they were little. It was made into pretend swords - all good fun and it was cheap.
Have a nice day everyone.BSC member 137

fingers crossed all goes well for your daughter sevenup.
another cold start today, the whole of the street is pure white with thick frost and freezing fog.
I feel all woozy today, took a load of painkillers but they didn't kick till till about 2am so got a blazing headache now. OH is at work so i've been very naughty and some swiss roll and a cup of hot milk.I think im addicted to come dine with me. I seem to watch 4od most of the
stiltwalker - its amazing when they start talking, a christmas just for you!:A.
I couldn't live without a timer on the heaters they are a life saver in the mornings for when we get up in the morning.
Well we made the decison to leave camhs for now, has a chat with the OT and explained about the argument with the OH. So i said could we leave it till the end of year 4 to see how ds2, the OT agreed and said we can access the service anytime. I also said that OH thought that ds2 was like him as a child and that's why he doesn't want DS2 to be labelled. The OT actually said she saw that in last meeting we had. She said she see asd in ds2's father as well and that i was coping with the situation really well with the comlex personalities within the household.
I also mentioned about ADHD, and the OT told me that no in depth autism tests and ADHD tests had been carried on ds2 so she said shes going to write on his notes that when we contact them again. She also said the tests should been done back when ds2 was referred back in June. I thought ds2 had had the Conners test, but nope not one. Goes to show doesn't it the primary health worker didn't do they job properly when they said they had conducted an in depth test.
Wll i'm now laid up in a huge thick blanket with the heating set on 18 degrees to keep the house mildly heated up. OH will kick off at me if its any lower:o.0 -
Hi all good evening, glad some of the older toughes are back ds2 cakes back from his dad's as he's decided to go this weekend to see his baby brother. Covered in cold sores I have been using activor but the poor boy is really unwell they are going nowhere. Do any of you lovely people no of any old wife's tales to make them go away and also anything to prevent the little blighters in the first place. It's freezing brrhhh x
Jem - I've had cold sores all my life - they're usually triggered when my resistance is low or in sunshine, so I always use a sunblock on my lips. I've tried virtually everything on the market & the only thing that seems to lessen the effect is dabbing with Tea Tree Oil 3/4 times a day & before bed. It seems to dry them up really quickly - if I can catch it soon enough at the 'tingle' stage it often doesn't develop at all. Hope this helps
OOps - just seen Grandma247's post - sorry for duplicationSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
LOl silvasava it is one of those things that can stand repeating just in case someone missed it.
Years ago when I was a child the doc used to give my mother some horrible ointment that burned when it was put on my coldsores. In my teens I used surgical spirit to dry them up and then years after I discovered tea tree oil. I hardly get them now but I try to be careful not to get too tired or stressed.0
