    Thanks Kezlou,
I have one living auntie and uncle, they invited me for Boxing Day as Christmas Day will be a houseful with their son, DIL and a ready made family of two.

I don't want to seem ungrateful but the weather is likely to be bad, they live approx 25 miles away and the bus service will probably off, taxis cost £25 one way and chances are they'll put the prices up. So I'll try my first Christmas on my own.

I have all the food that I need(and more)I will do my best to have a propper meal with all the trimmings, a little tipple, possibly some Christmas pud and/or Christmas cake. I have some Mr Kipling mince pies and some called Winter Warmers. They were £1.80 for six but for another 20p I got another box so that makes twelve.

If I can make space in the freezer the checkout girl at Tesco's suggested that I freeze some or all of the Christmas cake and it will last longer.:)I say that it is a Christmas cake, it doesn't have icing, nuts, marzipan but is a rich fruit cake and I used to avoid those so it will do me.

I'll listen to Christmas music, I should be doing that now otherwise I'll have to wait for next year, I'll stay cosy under the duvet, watch some tv on here overnight and during the day/early evening listen to the radio as that is my favourite entertainment and there are so many repeats on TV this year.

I'm getting to be a bit more of an OS person...I found a hole in my thermals today and the lining of one of my fingerless gloves coming away so there I was with needle and thread:pI seem to have succeeded in repairing them.

Always find myself thinking of that Beatles song Elenor Rigby where it says "Father McKenzie darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there!" Me sewing:eek:then again...why not!

Well, I have risked the heating for a couple of hours(on the timer)it was really cold here but I'm under a thick duvet and since having a mug of coffee and putting my fingerless gloves on I seem quite cosy.

I don't really know what illnesses I have had...I think I had chicken pox, measles and whooping cough and probably the usual colds/flu but was never really a sickly child then I hit thirty nine and had to get something life threatening which was pretty rare. I have no idea if I have had Mumps(but who am I going to ask?)

I'll regret saying this but have never had them myself. I only know the usual advice that you usually have to do something at the first tingle and there used to be something on sale at the chemists, in fact there are a few things that can be bought over the counter to relieve but not cure them. I think we've all heard the one about an ice cube.

    Some ideas here perhaps? http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/natural-medicine/home-remedies/home-remedies-for-cold-sores.htm

Some good remedies here but not really medical advice as such and they do say see a Dr.

I have a sister like this too. You have my sympathy. Thank you Unixgirluk for the advise, I will try it, though I don't know how successful I will be as she makes me feel both guilty & insecure even when I haven't done anything :o

I always find it helpful to remember that the person is responsible for what they say or do, but I am responsible for how it makes me feel.

My Oh had terrible cold sores from being a child but after we got married I always gave him extra vitamins and he rarely gets them now. Some people just use up the natural vitamins in food quicker I think so maybe an extra dose will help him over them.

Softstuff glad you are on the mend :)

Had a bad day with OH, he had a flare up of one of his problems and we were touch and go for a paramedic call but luckily it sorted itself but he was left wrung out and spent the day in bed. I think I may get Christmas sorted by February this year - we havent even got a tree as we decided a small one would be better and threw out the one we were given last year which was HUGE! Before that we had a second hand one for 20 years which lost its legs and had to be wedged in my tin kettle - so I think its time we splashed out :rotfl:

Definately going out tomorrow, I want to try and get a steam cleaner from Lidl, they are on offer at £20 and its just what I need. I had one but it passed away just as I had got used to it

Hugs to all in need and see you all tomorrow - rant alert - If I dont get out tomorrow and finish getting the bits I need I may be in a bad mood lol - I cannot live without my fairy liquid :D

    Ginny,
I don't have a tree or lights this year perhaps next year I will. The one we had a mixture of fibre optics and a coloured disc went around in the base and it gave different colours in the branches.

It was quite pretty but stopped working so it was ok I suppose as plain green tree but in the decluttering it got squashed so i decided though I could probably have saved it, to throw it out!

As I say perhaps I'll bother more next year. I felt a bit strange getting rid of it but...as I let some things go over the coming months of items that we shared that feeling will always exist to some extent.

Oh ginny I hope tomorrow is better, if you dont manage to get to Lidl tomorrow let me know as I am going Friday and can grab one for you, may be a few days until I can drop it with you but at least you will have it.

DD18 had an interview at Uni today, it was her second choice one as she has been set on one since first choosing her course, however she has come back and now this one has stolen her heart. My dad took her again and he said he felt the vibe around was much nicer and he felt they would be more supportive of her there too. He expressed concern last week at her first choice as he felt the level of pressure would make her ill again but today he felt that they would really support her.

From my point of view its entirely her choice, either one allows her to live at home which she is determined to do, we talked at length about it and as stress really makes her ill we felt that at least at home we would recognise the indicators. This one does the course over three years not four though which does worry me that they are cramming it all in - however flip side is a full year of debt knocked off £12k less in total, its got to factor.

Of course it may all be academic if she doesnt get her offer, but they apparently told them today that they had already cut thousands and were not interviewing many more than the places they had on offer.

Just a quick word about frozen pipes, had one really bad the year before last in all that minus ridiculous stufft.
Couldn't get out to buy any insultion at the time so wrapped it in strips of an old towelling t-towel. Worked so well I haven't used anything else since.

We defrosted it using a hairdryer, quite gentle and less mess than the kettle. Used an extension lead with a circuit breaker for safety.
