You could use a toggle instead of a button, fairly easy to fashion from a piece of dowel or similar.0 -
kidcat, many dentists are not qualified to do sedation, it has to be a special dentist. It requires quite a lot of extra post grad training
My DD7 is having a filling with sedation on Thursday - the dentist is new at the practice and told me she is trained in it but needed more training to do it in this practice so there was a big conflab about if anyone would be able to do it. DD is a drama queen at the best of times and she has been worried about this tooth for ages (didn't form enough enamel on it in the womb, she has one with a similar problem on the other side of her mouth too) so being told she needed a filling sent her into meltdown. The dentist is excellent and has explained it all to her and shown her what will happen and told her she will be all floaty...but I'll still be very glad to get thursday over and done with.0 -
possession - I am really worried about it as DD6 is really phobic about all things medical since the menigitis at Easter, the idea of a needle really freaks her out and just to look at the tooth yesterday was murder. But both the new dentist and the emergency one said that she has to be sedated either way, something about the position, state etc. So it will need to be done, thankfully the new dentist has referred her to the walk in centre community dentist who does it here but we may have to wait until January, its still better than the old dentist were saying.
I think the whole issue is due to a child dying under anaesthetic at the dentists years ago and it highlighted that dentists did not have the necessary training equipment etc.0 -
Unixgirl - the other thing you could do is to make a really tight little pompom with any leftover wool.
Ahh pompoms - brings back a lovely childhood memory - when I was little (this is going to date me!) my Mum made me a Pootle the Flump toy, she couldn't get a pattern so had to completely invent it and everything, my Dad made the pompom for the top of hi woolly hat and all I had to say about it was "Clever Daddy to make the pompom!" It has since become one of those family phrases used to overpraise really simple tasks when being a bit snarky. in LBD (life before dishwasher) DH used to get "clever DH to do the dishes" on the rare occasions he did - but just used to look at me as if I was mad, it lost something in the explaination!
We have just acquired a new family word, in the SW house lie ins are now know as lions after DD misheard and raaaa'ed at me!
Feeling very sorry for anyone with dentist troubles - I am really frightened but am lucky enough to have a really good and understanding dentist who gives me gas and air for everything!
Quiet day in today - the kids seem to be over their bug from earlier in the week but we've got a busy party weekend with a birthday party tomorrow and DH's works kids Christmas party on Sunday.0 -

Is your DD having a general anaesthetic? My DD is just having gas and air. Am slightly concerned it won't work for her as I heard the dentist telling her assistant they would fissure seal the other tooth 'if the sedation was working well'. Poor DDs. I hope you don't have to wait until January. Am a bit fed up of the whole 'why me?' thing really though, there's only so much drama I can take before I lose all patience and become Shouty Mummy.0 -

You can make buttons from milk and vinegar (how OS is that?)
Google 'buttons milk vinegar' and you'll get lots of sites. (sorry, I don't know how to put links in yet).
I've done it myself, though it was for short-notice modelling clay for the kids rather than buttons. I used fresh milk and vinegar. I'd add some food colouring though or it ends a rather unattractive sort of curdled milk colour!
What a thing to de-lurk on (I've been here quietly for a while).0 -

I have dental phobia , so am given gas and air for anything other than a simple check up. It is great! I am awake but couldn't care less about anything going on around me if that helps at all. Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -
