my hob kettle
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Circulon-Grey-Stove-Top-Kettle/dp/B003ZYERLQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I bought it because my electric kettle was taking up too much room on the worktop. I have had it for 2 years now and love it
Oh I like that one, I've not seen that shape on my trawls round the net. I'm pretty sure I will be getting one if even just for the bench space saving.
Weather updates are always welcome by meFore warned is fore armed
I still have the girls off school. It is 48 hours after diarrhea. I'm going to be embarrassed going into work tomorrow after having 3 days off
I've been thinning out the shop bought basil pot in the hope it will last. Alfie has pinched a stem and is trying his best to eat it. He so wants to but I don't think he likes it :rotfl:
We had pictures beamed around the news channels yesterday of Cameron in flooded houses, talking to the flooded owners. Why does he has to have a TV camera? Can he not just go without the publicity?0 -
Hi everyone iv been reading but not posting sorry not been very well.
Hugs to all
Sorry for anyone affected by the floods.

Love to all and keep safe xI've got ICE Parents in my mobile as my emergency contact. Hope that they never get called on that one.........
((((((((((jkj)))))))) Those thieving little barstewards! It really gets my goat that people buy insurance and then still end up losing out and when the beggars are convicted, very little happens to them. I'd like to see a system where people who stole or vandalised had to work as unpaid labour (equivalent to NMW) for the amount of hours/ years equivalent to what they'd taken or despoiled. And where all their goods and chattels were forfeit and sold to pay back their victims.
All is fine at the moment but I was spitting tacks and bad words last night when someone kindly drove through a huge puddle at speed and sent up a bow wave of filthy water as high as my head, soaking me in the process.
 Thanks for that, it really helped.
OK, gotta head to w*rk. Hope we all stay dry today. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I dont know if I saw this programme link on this thread, but these documentaries by Fergal Keane about forgotten britain are just brilliant. All about overcoming tough times......
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01p47s8/Return_to_Forgotten_Britain_Episode_1/I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
2T The weather information is so useful, please keep giving us the heads up if you are able to. You and Kittie are so kind in sharing with us, it really does give us the option to be a little more prepared for what is to come. Thank you both for all the useful and helpful weather info you have shared with us in the past too, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

I agree 2tonsils....I always have a peek when you put them on, it's something I'd not think to do otherwise, but that I am interested in!
I'm going to spend a couple of hours this morning tidying up the drawers in my bed room, which usually results in me finding stuff I'd forgotten I had, and makes it so much easier to find things for a bit. The rest of the house gets plenty of attention, but my bedroom gets left til last, and then not done.
I'm going to take the dogs out with DS this afternoon, I have a plan for where to take them, so I don't have a massive hill to negotiate, and I'll be on pavement that isn't muddy! Then I need to go into town, I need to pick up some meds from Boots and I'll have a sneaky peak in the card shop, where DD is for the first time today!

MOAN ALERT..... so fed up I could scream. Got up yesterday to find some thieving little !!!!!!! (insert your own choice of swear word) had stolen the catalytic converter off our car which was parked on our drive, leaving us with a repair bill of £400. If we claim off our insurance there is a £200 excess and we know from bitter experience that although we have protected no claims, this won't stop them hiking the premium next year.
I'm physically struggling too and stress makes me worse. I know I don't help myself because at times like this I eat. EAT. EAT!!! Then not only do I hate myself I feel physically worse. I really need to lose weight and when I get to the weight I am now my skin gets sore, my joints and muscles ache and I don't want to move off the sofa, which in turn makes me feel even worse.
Woke up in a "what is the point?" mood today. My family works damned hard, we have had the year from hell with illness, family stuff and money, and now some useless lowlife has just put the icing on the cake (bad choice of words as I like cake and icing, but too angry to make brain find the right sentence)
Ah well, at least the floods are 2 streets away. My heart goes out to all those affected. After all if you are living financially on the edge, the loss of your car, belongings, even your home, albeit temporarily, could just send you over the edge. Living on minimum wage with no way to get to your job,no clothes to wear and no home as your base would be impossible. Even if insured, it takes time for them to assess and pay out, so how do people manage? It is just horrible.
I know how you feel as that was us back in january when someone tried twice(!!!) to steal our car. They broke one of the windows yet none of our neighbours (including the nosey one who hears....everything!) heard a thing. So although it was a lot of money we've put up cameras. No, the neighbours didn't like it but its not looking into their property. We checked with the police and they were fine with it (I think they were shocked when I said what I'd do to the little **** who did that to my car, told them I'd happily repeatedly run over them but it might harm my car). Nosey neighbour complained and I politely told her where to go that we have a right to feel secure. .....Guess who's door she chapped when her wheelie bin went missing!!!?!!!CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
Morning everyone.
I got back from a week at work last night that turned into 8 days so was shattered. To make things worse, OH picked me up from the train station and we stopped off on the hight street on the way home for milk and electric. Came back to the car to find some @%$* had smashed one wing mirror completely off and sprung the other back. Has to be fixed asap as MOT is due in 2 week.
Managed to find a replacement mirror on Ebay for £20 but it wasn't in my budget as things are really tight at the moment .
Had a text this morning off a friend who runs a local pub asking me to do a shift behind the bar this afternoon so at least that will pay for it but I am still fuming.
Fuddle, am loving the idea of a stove top kettle as I have a really tiny kitchen, wish i'd thought of that when we moved in as I bought a new electric one.
NuttyP, I know what you mean about not seeing OH. At the moment we get to spend either 3 or 4 nights a fortnight together, not good.
Right, I need to get of my arris and go to work, will catch up later.0 -
Thanks for your feedback. I am going to stop posting on the Preparing for winter thread and will put the forecasts on here and on the SHTF thread as I know some people are on one and not the other.
Here is a link to one I have just seen and I must say my friends who predict the weather are backing it up. I now have access to images from the European computer model for weather which has been so accurate lately I am gobsmacked!...its a map forecast for 7th December and shows the UK in a bit of a deep freeze (-8) during the daytime on that date. I will update as we get nearer of course.

hiya, may I ask a question? in tough times?
house insurance is due... if I get the usual house and contents with emergency cover on both it is £240
If I miss off the emergency cover it is about £150 for house and contains.
Now there is 3 full time working adults and little old me on a very part time job.I have very little money but a little savings.
I have asked all to help pay the bill.
Adult child 1 gave me £5 in 20p's I could count out and have...
Adult child 2 have given my £10 as overpaid for something owed to me and I said the extra was going towards the bill.
Both adult kids give £100 house keeping a month to oh
Oh says he will have to pay another bill... but I feel he is paying most of the household bills.
Myself I am giving the £42 I got or working an extra day and £30 I won in a prize draw.
So £87 towards the bill.
Should I try to find the rest from my savings for the £240 bill.
Have a cheaper bill by taking of the emergency cover?
Ask oh to pay towards the bill?
It is so hard to decide what to do. I feel adult children could, but will not pay more... when you see new clothes or xbox games bought....
What should I do?The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I've got a question too... what's the most economic way to ship something to the USA? I used the Post Office calculator and my teeny weeny parcel came to £26!!! I tried to see if UPS was cheaper, but it appears I have to book it before it will tell me the cost. Anyone do this regularly and have any tips?
Fanks!
