Hope you did manage to sleep SQ and VJ'sMum, and hugs to everyone having a difficult time. I woke up very early and in desperate need of a cuppa so here I am trawling the web. Luckily DH got paid yesterday (hooray, 1st pay cheque in 2 and a half years!) as we had to get 2 new tyres and I think my laptop is on it's way out. Amazon have already sent me the replacement vacuum though, which I think is pretty spectacular service from them.
Today DD has an Irish dancing Feis (competition) which I'm rather nervous about on her behalf, not because it matters if she does well or not but because she had no idea anyone would be watching at all let alone a room full of competitive parents. My hairdressing skills are also likely to be woefully inadequate, it's just so not me. Ah well! Small stuff.
Major house tidying needed after that as there has been so much sorting of stuff going on that we're in that stage where it's got worse before it can get better. Needs to be tidy before it can be Christmas-ified!

Ginnyknit:- Thank you for my morning laugh out loud moment! Your poor Mum, and picturing you waiting by the phone. :rotfl:

    Kazlou:-Lovely to see you again.:)

Savingqueen:- Just wanted to give you a hug. Well done for coping with everything that has been happening this week. Your head must have been whirling with it all.
Great to see all the helpful comments here for you. Well done everyone!:T

Kidcat:-Your ability to cope with many varied crises never ceases to amaze me.:D

I recently frightened my GDD3 out of her slippers by bellowing at her "What the the bl88dy hell do you think you are doing?" I was twenty feet away from her as she was attempting to push a metal slide into a socket! Grandma was scary! She cried and her Mam got THE LOOK because of the uncovered socket! These things happen so quickly. :(

THank you SQ and Possession - yes I managed 7 hours unaided by drugs or alcohol.

Have a day walking in the hills and a pub lunch with friends today so that should blow away any remaining jet lag and I will be back to my normal irritating self

Hope you all have a lovely day.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Not been around much but popped on to say

Hubby had the camera up the ... yesterday and they could not find anything :j they have taken a biopsy but the doc says he's not worried. So think it is definitely down to all the stress/bullying at work.

    Good news PIC!
  • Fuddle, someone advised you to check with elderly locals about flood risk in you new house, we did this where we live, got chatting to some one who lives on the river bank & had lived there since 1934, she could remember 2 or 3 times when the river had broken it's banks but never had houses flooded.

You've just made my day, thank you. A Christmas War Time Farm. :)

Possession, ditto. Sat here narked because I could be lying in bed when I'm on the net all because I craved a cuppa. Got a headache too, think it's home brew. I'm just not a drinker  Back to being t-total (what does that mean?) I get more enjoyment out of a hot chocolate than a glass of wine.

PIC, excellent! A relief for sure.

The houses are all new. We're on our own on that stretch of river. We're a mile or so in either direction from the next dwellings but I will ask if I get the chance to talk to some older folk. I'm drawn to the older generations so no doubt it won't be long. DH surprised me with his naivety last night. "they wouldn't build houses in a area that is at risk of flooding" I just happen to think you never know what is likely to happen and always be prepared for freak occurrences. I'm not at all worried, I'm just being aware and the bug out bag will be assembled, some food items and my paperwork will be stored upstairs.

Today's job is to sign up to the flood alert so thank you. :)

You can check if you are in a flood plain I think, and they certainly do build on flood plains. The River Medway is tidal and they have built loads of houses in a new marina-type area - all completely in a major flood plain. I'm sure this has happened all over the country.
DH has just pointed out that I've done something really stupid - booked to see Nativity 2 on Sunday when his parents are taking the children to Brum to the Christmas markets. Hope I can change the date as I don't think they do refunds.
Right must get ready to drive 16 miles to take DD to some silly competition full of girls with full make up, £500 dresses and fierce mothers when she has none of those (nor will she). She doesn't even have the right socks, LOL!

    Aha! How obvious :o

Checked a floodplain interactive map http://www.doncasterwx.co.uk/floodmap.htm we're on a floodplain alright. Things get near at sea level + 4 metres. The far end of the estate will flood at sea level + 7 metres and my hoose will flood at sea level + 9 metres. It sounds scary but I suspect it might take something freak to get sea level rises on that scale. I hope  Edit: Environment agengy map suggests that the green field infront of the houses has a significant risk of flooding. Our street is not included in that risk but, we're talking less than 1 minute walk. That's near in my book and I shall be prepared for flood ;) I'm not sure I would like to enter the rent to buy scheme now. A bit to think about.

I'm already showing DD pic's of orange faced teenage girls compared to those modelling on the Next website - (funky but natural ;) ) She's got a passion for make up and perfume and I'm crying inside at the thought of her turning into something a bit eeek. Good luck P I don't at all envy you!

Edit: made cauliflower mash last night and it went down very well with the girls. Just steamed cauli, a bit salt and pepper, knob of butter and a tiny splash of milk. It's bizarrely got a sweet and creamy taste ;)
