And now a big thanks to Mrs CD, Silvasava, Fuddle and KatieOwl because........ I have made non-crumbly pastry! Using a combination of everyone's suggestions I used half marg and half lard and added a bit more water. So now there is a quiche, some gentlemen's relish pastry straws (don't ask: I ran out of marmite) and some fairy cakes cooling outside. OH won't know what's hit him when he gets home.
Take care in the horrible weather everyone.[/QUOTE]
Well done 7WW - It just takes practice! Hope the treats went down well :T I like the idea of using the relish on the pastry straws - it just shows, doesn't it - how new recipes are discovered!
Hope everyone is coping with the weather. Stay safe all.2025 Fashion on the ration

Byatt can not offer any more advice than others have already given you but agree with meme30, it is definatly a mum thing.
It got very windy around 3.30 here today but not much rain. 2 fence panels have bust beyond repair down the side of the house that belongs to us. Not sure when we will be able to replace them but probably not until the new year.
DD2 woke me at 6 after vomiting on the floor. Mr VP took her off to the GP (I work full time) as we have managed this latest bout of sinusitis for over a week but she is getting worse not better and is missing collage as well. Now has antibiotics and a nasal spray. GP also suggested an eye test and MR VP was able to get one for her today. Perfect vision (the only one of the 4 of us).
Have been to DD2's old school tonight where she got an award for her contribution to athletics whilst she was there.
Off to snuggle up with a hottie now (not Mr VP before anyone gets any ideas).
Hope you all have a good night and are to too troubled by the weather.
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Softstuff, how you doing?? I managed to get some red miso paste today, so tomorrow will try the recipe you gave. I also got some Chinese 5 spice, and it smells lovely, but what do I do with it?
I'm just resting now Byatt, don't want to jinx it, but I might be coming round ok. Just so very tired.
After you try the aubergine recipe, if you like it I'll give you another recipe. I'm not a big user of 5 spice. I've thrown it in some baked goods and coated chicken wings with a bit (coat chicken wings with flour and a couple of teaspoons of five spice, then fry both sides until golden, then I pop them in the oven a bit to dry out). Hubby is a great fan of these, I've never been so keen on wing as a concept (I don't like food with the potential of a gristly bit).
I hope you guys all hunker down well for the storms and nobody gets too wet. Hugs xxSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Softstuff glad you are doing okish
Mrs VP well done on getting a doctors appointment today - our doctor require a note from the grim reaper to be seen on the day now it seems
Well what an adventure am just back from the walk in centre after DS8 gave himself an electric shock, he had dismantled his lamp and put finger in socket:eek::eek: I cant believe I was stupid enough to let him have the lamp in the first place - its gone now though.
He has a small burn on his finger but otherwise seems ok, his heart was racing for a bit and his legs were all shaky but it seems he has had a lucky escape.
Just need to keep a careful eye on him - whilst he was there he insisted on a full check up as " I havent been feeling myself - I have felt older than my grandad, 15yrs older in fact and my throat is sore" :rotfl:- he has a virus and an inflamed throat so good job he was off school really.0 -
Oh kidcat, just what you didnt need I imagine. Im glad he is ok and hope you have a peaceful night. Hugs ginny
thank you possession, I got a tin of peach slices out and then forgot where I put the recipe. My head is now spinning round like something out of a horror film. Loft insulation people are coming tomorrow and the Sky man is fitting another box in DS room - he is paying but I feel it may be chaos. I want to sleep for a week or two and live on takeaway but neither is possible
2 of our dear friends came for a visit this afternoon they have had a stressful couple of weeks due to the DWP and British Gas plus various other unwanted and un-necessary problems so we all had a good moan. Then I waved them goodbye, she is off to visit her family in South Africa for a few weeks and I will keep a watchful eye on her partner - he has mental health problems -but he has always been there for us so its no problem. As usual he will hibernate, popping up every so often to complete a few tasks and say hello to us until the job centre call him in for work related interview, I will go with him, he will have a meltdown at the door and we will go home again. Gee I have such fun!Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
((Hugs)) Byatt - I know how DS14 can be and appreciate how hard it is for you, I am dreading him getting older, all I can say and its cold comfort I know, but she wont get that she has upset you at all.0

*hugs* Byatt and Kidcat. I don't know how you do it. When I say that I really mean it, I honestly can't imagine how hard it is to be a mum, especially when your kids need even more love and attention. I can't keep myself out of mischief let alone anyone else.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

Good luck Jem, we will all be thinking of you :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
Byatt so sorry to read you're having a hard time, I have zero experience with autism but knowing how hard parenting is at the best of times I take my hat off to you.
Not had a good few days but must, must, MUST try and get a grip today before I end up so far down a hole I will never be able to climb back out. Not sleeping isn't helping either  I have no energy so am finding it hard just to get off the sofa, but because I'm not getting any exercise to speak of, and am as usual eating to forget IYSWIM, I am feeling vile. I need to lose 2 stone, BMI says I should lose 3 but if I go that low I think I will look vile. I really think once you get to my age. (55) a bit of padding is no bad thing. When I get to the weight I am now , 12 stone, I get aches and pains, sore skin and a totally blugh feeling......like a slug. I have cancer anyway so feeling like this on top of that does me no favours. Argh I am my own worst enemy
Sorry to moan. On a lighter note, I did a really lovely and easy pudding last night. I had a bag of flapjack bits in the freezer from when a batch was too crumbly and 50% of them broke up as I got them out of the tin, so I sliced a couple of bananas into a dish, covered them with the flapjack bits and baked for about 15 minutes. Was lush, and not too unhealthy.
Hooe the weather is better today. Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0
