Mar - someone posted a link to old-fashioned soaps a while ago - a but you make your own. What about a tin of old-fashioned talc for the ladies?
Really enjoying reading all your posts folks.
Kittie - sorry the holiday is cancelled - sending healing thoughts for your DH. Thanks for the link you posted on foods and properties (of the foods, not brick)

Well the job issue is sorted and DH has gone for the one he is much more comfortable with, and spent the day doing all kind of HR-related stuff. He was supposed to start Monday but that seems unlikely now. My friend and her kids came round today and purely by coincidence she works for the same company and was able to give him some pointers so all is well. Luckily I don't think he is going to be too anxious, because I really don't want to go back there again.
Made a huge lunch, and the DCs are still saying they are starving, but they aren't getting 2 dinners!Great news for your OH and yourself, happy co-incidence about your friend working in the same place, too.
I'm whacked out as didn't get to bed til........ waitforit ........ 11.40 pm last night. Great evening gassing and catching up with my ole amigo, lots of laffs and somehow two bottles of wine, a box of choccies, big bago of crisps and about half a meter of h.m. pizza disappeared.
I could most-charitably be described as a good plain cook but my pizza is the stuff of legend and special requests. I suppose if you have one speciality it's good to have a universally-popular one.
 Mar, you shock me. I have 6 pudding basins, 3 small and the rest medium, some part of the Ancestral Pyrex Cache, passed down from Grandma to Mum to me. How do people manage without these things? I use them for everything except puddings............:rotfl:
Right, am fading fast due to extreme tiredness, even losing control of my personal thermostat so will pootle a bit them wander off to my duvet.

Friday evening at Pooky Towers is bordering on the edge....the edge of what is yet to be decided.
There's onsies, there's blankets, there's a fire roaring away, there's 5 cats snuggled on various laps/beanbags/blankets and there's naff tv programmes (and my patchwork of course).
A friend on FB was just saying that she's a bottle of wine down and ready to go out on the town....really? Do people really do that? It's 9pm, the only thing I'm longing to do is climb into bed with a cuppa and the latest episode of QI.

When I was a student we didn't even start going out until 10ish. But these days you're more likely to find me in bed by 10pm. I also used to drink like a fish, happily those days are over too.0

But I did used to enjoy the post lecture pre night out snooze on a Friday night .... Bottle of wine before I went out used to mean I didn't spend money when I went out, MSE even then.Start info Dec11

I have a pudding basin. My gran was a wee thrifty Scot and I was brought up to eat porridge for breakfast and after our evening meal we filled up with suet puddings or home made rice pudding.
My small son doesn't believe in Father Christmas (hasn't since he was 5 when his dad died and Santa couldn't bring him back), but he does believe St Nicholas is real and looks after children everywhere. He thinks it's wrong that children are told presents come from Santa as people whose mums and dads don't have much money could be in for a disappointment. He's a deep thinker for an 8 year old. We have fun looking for his one small present that St Nicholas hides for him somewhere in the house though.
I hope Stiltwalker had the most wonderful day and wish her and her DH a long and happy life together.0 -
Oh Cranky -
My DS8 is currently watching polar express over and over, and has decided that he wants to go to the North Pole just before Christmas to take Santa a gift - as he gives so much but never gets anything back0
