Quick q if anyone can help, she brought 2 duck halfs with her the type you cook in oven that come with the pancakes and sauce etc (they look like there were cooked n you heat at home iykwim) we still have 1 left plus the bones, can I save this meat for tomorrow? And can a stock be made, or it made into some sort of duck based soup. I am stuffed but seems wrong to waste it.

I would certainly keep the meat for tomorrow. As soon as it is cool, just pop it in the fridge.

For stock, you can either simmer the bones in a saucepan (add an onion, carrot and celery stick, or any combination of those if you like, and/or some herbs) or do what I do and stick in the slow cooker on low overnight. :)

I obviously believe in santa (cos he's real) and my kids have always known it! It's lovely now they're grown up as they make sure I get some wee things from Santa each year

As they got older I could see that they weren't sure if I was pretending or not, but humoured me anyway - now they are grown I'm not sure what they think - whether they think i'm bluffing or slightly odd (probably the latter as I am anyway), but it keeps the magic alive in our house

My FIL until the day he died aged 84 believed in Father Christmas, and woe betide anyone who disagreed with him.

Whether this came from his upbringing in a small Scottish mining village without a father as he had died when FIL was 6 months old, or from another reason I don't know.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

How do you steam puddings without fancy cookware?

If you mean sponge puddings, such as syrup, jam etc, that you have with custard, I just do them in an old pudding basin (not very fancy cookware :rotfl:) in the microwave. It only takes a few minutes. I can dig out a recipe if that would help? It is much easier than steaming up the place boiling them for hours, and think of the electricity or gas that would use

Wow having been racing about all day am struggling to remember who said what etc :) A new thread always moves so fast:D

Kittie so sorry you had to cancel your holiday, after all the work you have done you really deserved a good break.

Welcome to any delurkers I have missed, scones are on the side please help yourself

NOt sure who said that whoever doesnt believe doesnt receive, but we have a similar sort of attitude, everyone gets involved in the whole Santa thing.

Jem - am sure your OH should be getting more rest between call outs, my OH isnt allowed to go back to work within 12hours of a shift and its tightly monitored.

Did my weekly shop today and was lucky enough to be at the shops at mark down time, I could have bought so much but there isnt much space in the freezer, I got a full chicken for £2, 12 pork steaks for £2 and a few other bits.

Had DS14 review with school and am shocked by the fact that they have done everything he asked/needs. They are applying for extra support and all the paperwork was there ready to sign, have removed him from the class he hated. The LA have not done all they said so school are pushing them to get it moving.
We said we that we were planning on paying for a private diagnosis and the lady representing CAMHS said oh no we are on target with it, he will get it when only a few weeks ago they sent a letter saying that he was no longer being considered!!!
Obviously now they have spent more time with him they are seeing what we see but it is frustrating that we are having to push all the time.

DD6 woke up with her mouth swollen today big abcess on her gum, we called our dentist (who really are useless) and they said they had no dentists working today to call NHS direct, who said that we have no emergency day time dental care in our town so we had to ring other local dentists or failing that ring back tonight:eek::eek: thankfully I was able to persuade a local dentist to see her as a one off but they were not at all happy.

DS8 has broken yet another baby gate, unfortunately its not a welding job to fix it, looks like its a write off :)

Oh now I could do that maybe -I havent got a microwave and I dono what a pudding basin is but I do know what a SC is LOL! I wouldn't mind a recipe for that if and when anybody can be bothered, ty ty.
I need help with something else too -- I want to give wartime "comfort boxes" to the family for xmas this year. I have so far a hot water bottle, hand knitted socks & slippers, and a large tin of Belgian drinking choc, and some gorgeous posh biscuits. But now I'm stuck! What else could I add ?

Sounds lovely x what about a book or a recent magazine closer to the time or if needed a nice blanket.

Thank you x am now thinking a rice based dish to turn the meat into, then soup for lunch tomorrow and Sunday. The mince I got out tonight will keep for Sunday. Back to work next week so meals will become quicker ones again, it's nearly 6 before we are all home, the 2 hours between home and bedtime seem to fly by too quickly.
