    Good Morning all :)

Thank you all for the compliments on my baking. *insert a blushing smilie here*. I haven't made a proper cake like that in ages as my boys don't want them anymore. DS1 has a huge pile of mince pies instead of a birthday cake and DS2 tends to want a massive chocolate cake. I made the tank cake for the Leicester Games Workshop store when they were releasing new models. It took me two days, the house was covered in grey icing and edible metallic spray and I nearly had a nervous breakdown. In hindsight I should have made it smaller as it was about 18x12 inches big.
kidcat I can honest say that you are one of the few people I would consider making another one for.

PIC ((((((((hugs)))))))))) I don't pray, but I'm sending positive thoughts your way.

((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) to all those that need them. I am so sorry that everyone is having such a tough time.

This morning I am in the charity shop and am hoping that it isn't too busy or chaotic. My sinuses are playing up again and I feel shattered. Dinner tonight is going to be yellow split pea soup with chicken frankfurters added. I need to remember to pick up some bread while I'm out.

Does anyone know where I can buy canned pumpkin pur!e? Some of the American blogs I follow have some fab pumpkin recipes at the moment and suggest that it's better using the canned stuff as it is much drier. I want to make spiced pumpkin scones and lattes. I will have another search in Mr T's later.

    Take care everyone xxxxx

Stiltwalker and SDG - the photos are lovely! You are so talented.:T

GreyQueen - I love that you call it your pooter. My DD2 got an HP laptop a few years ago and wanted to call it Harry Potter! I said that it was silly so she called it Harry Pooter instead!:)

PIC - hope kitty turns up soon.
:o It's a verbal tic caught from someone who teaches primary school, I'm afraid.

Com-pooters, y'see. Harry Pooter is much cleverer.

If mine is playing up it's called The Beast. Imagine a great putty-coloured behemoth. It's unstealable, though, which is an important factor in this neighbourhood, on grounds of being very large and very heavy and absolutely un-resalable.

Yesterday's luvverly autumnal sunshine has disappeared and we are left with grey-but-dry-and-mild which is good enough to go to the t'office in. I'm a cross bunny if I get rained off the allotment at the weekend and soon as it's the workweek we get dry and sunny weather.

Right, better have a quick internet wander then get up the road to (wo)man a phone line. The quietest time to ring a local authority is mid-late afternoons on Thurs and Fridays, if you'd find that insider tip helpful.............Mondays are terrible.

:p I have fortified myself with an omelette. Cover me, peeps, I'm going in...................:rotfl:

I thought it looked familiar.... DS would definitely love that one - he has loads of the things in his warhammer collection. I'm still not going to attempt making one for him...!

PIC I hope your poster campaign pays off and the puddy comes home. We would be lost without our purry monsters.

Have just dropped DH off for his first day of work! Considering he can suffer so badly from panic attacks he was remarkably OK, which makes me even more sure he definitely accepted the right job. We're going to see how we manage without another car, fingers crossed it will be OK.

I have definitely bought tinned pumpkin in Mr T before, but haven't looked for years.

just a quickie to suggest that you might want to get `just in case` stuff in, just in case this lurgy goes nationwide. It`s truly awful and is flu not a cold. It comes on all of a sudden and you don`t get the prickly throat warning. It goes straight to the chest and also the sinuses so that you are incredibly bunged up and coughing all the time, particularly when you try and rest lying down and the headache just goes on and on It just took me over and I have resorted to taking cold and flu meds, just to get through a couple of hours at a time. Important to drink as much as possible but not dairy stuff as there is an unimaginable amount of non-stop mucus and dairy adds to it

Kittie that is what I have. It started very suddenly 12 days ago but is getting better very slowly. Knocks your feet from under you though. Not affected my chest too badly but my sinuses are horrible.

I've had flu once. It knocked me out for days.
I thought I had flu another time. Till I turned blue. Turned out I had pneumonia!
If a person can function, they don't have flu!

    True
I used to work in a chemist and in the bad flu season in the 70's a doctor came in and said he was run off his feet so started asking those who rang him "do you have a runny nose?" If they said yes he told them it is only a cold you only need to ring me if it gets a lot worse or it has not gone after a week or so. It cut his workload down quite a bit. Generally flu starts with a dry nose.

I am quite a few pages behind because I can only read a couple or so at a time.
  • Morning Toughies, DIANE you can get cans of Libbys Pumpkin Puree in W*itrose, last one I had was £1.39p back in the summer.

FUDDLE - Hope your visit from Mum went OK yesterday and that she wasn't too difficult about your new house.

Chilly here today but I managed to get the washing fry outside yesterday so I'll get warm by ironing later on. Have a good day everyone, Cheers Lyn xxx.

You don't need the canned stuff. If you roast pumpkin bits in the oven until soft (brush them with oil first), then blend them, they're as dry as the canned stuff (and it concentrates the flavour too).

Sorry but that's as much as I can contribute today, fair bit of pain when the pills wear off (they don't last a full day). But love to all xx

Loved your photo's of the wedding stiltwalker Such a lovely little family :) and SDG!! How talented are you! :D Well done, they're lovely.

That's my letter of resignation written out and the school transfer formed stamped up. It's happening.

Lyn. My mam. A mixture of feelings. It was ok as days with her go, at times quite enjoyable. Remember she was giving my sister my grandma's diamond necklace and I her wooden standard lamp? Well it's changed. I have on my wedding finger my Grandma's wedding ring. I saw sadness in my mam's eyes and I saw pleasure in giving it to me. And I got a big hug, my mam never hugs me. You see I am a person who doesn't follow traditions or what is expected. I had my eldest DD before we were married. DH and I were commited to each other and that was the most natural thing to do. The only thing was I was embarrassed that my DD had my husbands name and I didn't... so we ran away to the Isle Of Arran to get married in secret and cheapness and have a holiday too. I wed with a £20 wedding ring that didn't mean anything. What meant the most to me was that I had my new family name. You all probably don't understand, that's ok. I am a bit weird in my views.

I still have my ring but don't wear it for the simple reason that I didn't think I should be judged as being a mam married or not married. The rebel in me I guess, not bothered by what people think. Lately though I have wanted a ring on my finger, I'm 33 and a damn good mam and wife. I kind of want to show the world my status now. Basically I've probably grown up. Either that or don't mind complying with what is expected. So to 1) have a ring on my finger to show the world I'm a married mum of two and happy and 2) for the ring to actually mean something to me, I feel so happy.

Is it a bit weird that I wear my grandma's wedding ring though?

But, she couldn't resist the digs about moving especially for taking the girls out of school and walking out on a job. The one that hurt though was that she said Alfie would be demented in such a small house and 'I bet you take him back to Dogstrust'. Alfie will have a better life walking alongside the river walks. Our dog isn't just a dog that's in our house, he's part of my family. We have feelings for him. We could never give him away! Anyway, she didn't like my home brew, so that's still there :D

I've learned a lot about why mam does things thanks to one of our lovely friends on here. My mam can't help it. It's the way she is so I just accept it and when it gets too much she'll be back at arms length. I know she loves me, she just has to do it in a way that suits her.

About to go put a gammon joint in the SC for gammon, fried egg, pineapple and chips for tea. Have a good day everyone :)
