FPK, any member of the public can call the Police on their non-emergency number and express concerns about something like this; a person not been seen, curtains not moving, post hanging out etc.
I believe the Police are obliged to attend within 4 hours of such a report, and if they feel it necessary, they will break into the home.
I work for a council who owns a large housing stock and the Police break into our homes (we just repair the doors) and I know they also break into private homes. Sometimes, the person inside is deceased. We've had a few of these in our block over the years.
SuperGran told me that a few years back, postie came back around to her flat (she's a bit of a village wise woman to our street in the sky) to say he was worried about another neighbour. The post was piling up below the letterbox, there were a lot of flies around the door, and a stench.
SG checked herself and then rang the Police and they came quickly and broke in; a death. Another time she realised she hadn't seen a poorly neighbour for a couple of days, asked if anyone else had seen them (no) and rang the Police. They broke in and she was dead on the floor. They told SG they were grateful the alarm had been raised sooner rather than later as the weather was very hot and......well, you don't need me to draw diagrams.
We've had a few more similar stories over the years. One of them in what is now my flat (one neighbour told me out of spite to try to upset me because I refused to go on a date with him, and SG confirmed the details when I asked, otherwise she'd never have mentioned it). I'm not saying your neighbour is necessarily one of these sad cases, but there seems to be enough there to raise concerns. You could lay it before the Police and see what they say.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Morning everyone, lovely and sunny here. I am taking my mum shopping this morning to @ldi, only need a few bits. I have work very late this afternoon, so will be catching up on my housework today.
Last night DD fianc! popped around on the pretext he was dropping off the paperwork for the car that we had given to DD. She has returned it to us and said she doesn't want anything from us. They went and got another car on finace instead for nearly 9k. He came round on his own to show us, yes its nice but that's 5 years of payments. I haven't heard from our DD, I asked of she wanted to meet and she said no. So there you go.
Monday we are booking the Algarve for a week in October, after selling the car that we have been given back by DD we will have enough to go with and a bit left over. As cruel as it sounds I think I am going to look after ourselves more and not 'give' away like I used too.
My lupins have been destroyed by some fly thingy, I think greenfly. Havent seen any slugs but I have wood chips under my plants and they don't like these!! hahaha. Snails get eaten by the birds.

Can I just say you can make ordinary tea in a teapot, but throw in a sprig of washed mint from the garden. One teabag and one sprig of mint, let it infuse.
Yesterday I was up ladders changing curtains, moving furniture, and weeding the garden. I am getting to the stage of being angry for losing ten years of my life. Although I'm nowhere near normal in energy levels I'm a long way from where I was.
Weather been brilliant here but it's to rain all weekend.0 -
FPK, OH uncle lived in a tower block in Lewisham and he hadn't been seen for 3 days. Someone called the police, they looked through the letter box and saw him collapsed in the hall way. They broke in, but he was already dead. Unfortunatly it can be a regular thing that the police have to deal with, but definatley tell them sooner rather than later as well......... its not a nice thing to find iugwim.

NUTTY I'm so pleased for you that you are booking that holiday, and don't worry too much about DD not wanting to pop round, I expect she's trying to save face with herself and feels a bit uncomfortable with the situation they created, she'll come round in a while. Good decision to look after you and Mr Nutty a bit more in the future, one I think will give you both a nicer life, well done you, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

NuttyP - definitely cutting off nose to spite face, there. You go on holiday and have a lovely time
FPK - at least with a phone call you will have done all you can.
Mrs LW - you are lovely. Everyone is lovely but I am sure they won't mind me singling you out for special praise!
Mar - don't be bitter cos that will hold you back. Onwards from here and hopefully you will have helped someone else. My friend's mum had had mouth cancer and was recovering and then suddenly went downhill. Everyone was terrified it had returned, but after many months of extensive tests they discovered that, because she hadn't been eating properly, she was suffering a severe lack of essential vitamins and minerals. She hasn't looked back since.
I am having an hour to myself - ish before heading off to be external examiner at another University. I say ish becasue there are chores to be done, I think I will spend half an hour juggling laundry and actually putting it away. That will clear some floors (:o) for hoovering later on. I am probably going to be working more hours from September and am thinking that I will need to spend some of the extra cash on a cleaner. As I'd rather do what I do than clean, it is a fair swap and won't take all the extra cash anyway. I need to spend some time in the garden but, as the heavens have just opened and I am dressed for work, that isn't going to happen today. Had a perfect strawberry from the garden yesterday, warm from the sun. Divine
One week till Glasto :j:j:j:j:jI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Are you sure you don't have any ironing to do amongst that lot, VJsMum?
Right, enough nonsense, I'm on a late or I wouldn't be online at this time, but it's time to go.
Have a lovely day, peeps; I certainly intend to!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oh don't <<groans>> I so do - loads. OH has promised to do it tonight so here's hoping.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Morning all,
only had time to catch up a couple of pages and reading backwards so excuse me if I've missed stuff.
Princess - what a great support you are to your brother and partner. Everything will be ok and in a few weeks a big sigh of relief all round when they have their new home and new baby.
Well done FPK on OH's exam result and good luck for the scary one today. My DH has an exam tonight and one again next week - and then if he has passed both (finds out v quickly) he will be free to enjoy the rest of the summer and help me out a bit, we are both flagging atm.
Nutty - well done on booking your very well deserved holiday. When you are relaxing there (like Stiltwalker is now - glad you're enjoying it, nice to hear about DD's swimming), you won't have a care in the world for once.
Pops - hope today goes to plan for you. I will thinking of you.
everyone else- hello and hopefully catch up properly later. Not enough time in the day right now for me.
I have apprx 2 hours to fly round the house doing as much housework as possible and then off to a lovely friend's for a birthday lunch. We will have babysitters in Sat night (1st night out in a year) and the place is . I will have to spend a chunk of Sat on the house too.
Tomorrow is our 10th wedding anniversary which we are spending together whilst kids at school. Had zilch quality time for weeks, months even with DH so really looking forward to having some special time with him. Not sure where we are going, maybe the coast.
I made a card inspired by our wedding, used some of the leftover paper from our invites and have written a couple of lines from our vows and one from our wedding poem. It looks more shabby than chic but I wouldn't be able to buy a card with our names and wedding date etc in the shops! Also bought a little pot of mini red roses (our poem is A red, red rose) and going to see if DH wants to choose a red rose bush for the garden with me as our present to each other.
ok no more excuses, off to clean!

SQ that's lovely! have a lovely day, Cheers Lyn xxx.
VJsMUM surely you are not advocating a KALE DIET for MAR??? many lovely vitamins and minerals in Kale, it's lovely and green, and chewy, and healthy and they sell it in up market health food shops covered in chocolate (well cocoa nibs!) after it has been freeze dried. Oh what a happy and healthy little bunny MAR will be, she will be so delighted at the prospect I'm certain she will have the right words of thanks for us both, Oh happy day, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
