Good on you Fuddle...your mother has to sort herself out and you are not being at all selfish by not doing things for her that she is able to do herself.
I think that the Micra might be a good buy as I see lots of them on the road looking well when a lot more than 45k on the clock, feeling secure is very important when driving with young children, so think of it as an investment.

Still beautifully sunny here so am going to do a bit in the garden....just realised the time so it will be a short bit, as DS2 is here for dinner so will need to get on with things....we had an hour's interruption of electricity this afternoon, which is very unusual, but all in now fine, we are having roast pork, baked potatoes, carrots, courgettes and bok choi, will not bother about pudding as neither OH or DS are into puddings and I shouldn't be!

Hugs to all who are struggling for any reason.....I didnt laugh either Kezlou, honestly!!

Haven't quite caught up with everyone's news, but well done Fuddle, I got the gist of that one, car sounds a goer too.

As Pops has said, the HA visit went well. The guys were very reassuring, I felt, and Pops was able to get the point over that it was just bad timing when they called on the first visit.

I've spent this week not being able to lock my front door (PVC, 18 months old, cost a bomb and installed by reputable company) as it had warped and there was a 1" gap at the bottom on the locking side. TG ours is a good area and the front is well lit. Anyone reading, it is now lockable again and my insurance is once again valid.

The guys from the company came out this morning and sorted it in 5 mins by twiddling with the adjustable hinges, I also got given some good advice.

They advised me to always lift the latch when shutting it so that all the 5 point latches clicked into place even if I didn't actually lock it.
They also used some of my trike's own brand WD40 to lubricate the locks and advised doing this 3 monthly.

Advice I wasn't given at the fitting. The lock has always been so stiff it required my full weight to lock it, and the guys who fitted it knew this. Yet they made no adjustments.

I was told those fitters were no longer with the company when I rang on Monday. Hmm.
Now the lock shuts like a dream. The guys who adjusted it were the same nice guys who fitted 2 replacement double glazed windows for me last year, which augurs well for the windows.
I do know that PVC doors CAN warp, despite the assertion that it's normally wood that does this.

Work is trundling along quite nicely. I work from home as an online Maths tutor for people who work in hospitality, for new thread-mates.
All part of the up-skilling of the workforce as a whole, as poor basic skills cost the nation billions.
For example, food companies have had to bin perfect products, as machine operators could not calculate 10 days ahead from the current date when entering Best Before and Use By dates.

DS has promised to do a job he promised to do weeks ago too. :j He has today off - sod's law, as he would have been happy to have transported Pops' stuff to the tip for free.
Instead he got rid of our clutter from the lounge and the back porch alcove that was once a coal shed, before we moved here. :A Whee! :D

We started the day with a terrific thunder storm but the sun is shining now. We have a church BBQ this evening but as everything is still quite wet I guess it will be in the church hall. Again.
It's our Fast day so we've eaten nothing so far and will be able to indulge in a sausage or burger tonight.

It's the Isle of Wight Festival next week so we are stocking up our cupboards and preparing for the siege. We have been promised some of the sleeping bags that festival goers leave behind them for our homeless friends, but today I learn that the organisers are trying to persuade people to take all their things away with them. I hope that a good few of them don't listen.

Fuddle: Get the Micra. Get the Micra. Get the Micra. Enjoy.
And keep away from your Ma. You have enough problems of your own and your first responsibility is to your little family. Was it on here that I read this?
There's nothing 'toxic' people like more than getting their own way or causing a fight. Upset a toxic person and they'll be shooting infuriating drama-baits your way. The only way to win with a toxic person is not to play. And until you accept that fact you are anybody's sucker.
Unfortunately alcoholics are usually toxic people. Stay away petal.

Pops: So glad everything went well. You have earned yourself a rest and a pat on the back. Have a good weekend.

AOT: Thank Heavens! a fellow technophobe. I may well be sending you questions to ask on here that I am too embarrassed to ask myself. Mind you, I probably wouldn't understand the answers anyway. I don't speak techno language.

SQ: You are 15p to the good? WOWEE!!!!! Now off you go and spend it in riotous living.

I've rested since and fell asleep, not gone out either, when I go wherever I decide over the weekend there is a food theme but I doubt I'll be spending, pity as the events sound great but can't get another thing in the fridge freezer. Good in one way, bad in another as I am missing out on some lovely treats...

Normally there is little happening, now there is a lot all going on at once...saltburn, hartlepool, yarm, darlington, durham, tynemouth and many more all overlapping with each other. Best of all reasonable weather too. I assume this is similar across the UK.

Monnagran - could you arrange a collection point as people leave for unwanted items - it means the organisers get a clear site and you get your leftovers for the homeless guys. If you are canny and willing to supervise it you may be able to get a skip company to loan you a freebie skip to use. :)

:okezlou, my eyes were watering in sympathy at the tale of woe; I once walked into a plate glass shop door up the precinct. Walked in thru the half which was propped open, tried to walk out thru the closed half and impacted nose-first. Oww! :o

As well as hurting like billy-oh, there's the embarrassment factor to counter. I scuttled around the corner to lurk and whimper.

fuddle, that Micra sounds like a peach. I'd go for it.

:) Belated hello and welcome to AOT and Princess. Nice to have you aboard the Good Ship Toughy. We're all a bit chewed about by life, but we keep on keeping on and prop each other up.

I've spent the entire week trying to catch up with myself and am determined to give that old kelp stuff a go. Another ME-er here. Supplements haven't worked for me before but I'm prepared to punt a few quid if it might possibly help.

    Tonight's tea will be pasta-thang, a recipe which I acquired many moons ago when it was described as pasta provencale. Think it drifted a bit off-piste since, but it is a real example of thrift;

Bathc of cooked and frozen tommies (from Magic Greengrocer) thawed out overnight. Punnet of mushrooms and courgette from same yesterday, ditto some new pots, and a red pepper brought the other week from Liddly when they had them at 40p. I may chuck a tin of sweetcorn in there and will deffo put some tommie puree and dried basil.

My cooking won't win me any prizes but I haven't poisoned anyone yet (give it time, chillun, give it time).

Hokay, time to make with the recipe. Have a good evening, folks. GQ xx

kidcat: Thanks kidcat but it is someone who organises the collection and clearance of the leftovers who has promised to keep us the sleeping bags and a few tents. He was thrilled as last year they sent about 50 sleeping bags to the Dog's Home and some tents were sent to the tip. I think this is why they are going to encourage people to take stuff home with them this year. Unfortunately we don't have storage space for too much or we would take everything they had to offer.

Sorry, but you mustn't make such assumptions! I believed the forecast last night and was up early this morning (cat felt breakfast should be served at 5.11 and she has a shriek that you can't ignore). So I washed the towels and hung them on the line before setting off for work. At that time it was dry and pleasant, although not greatly sunny.

After about an hour or so at work I was not happy to notice we were having a shower. In retrospect the shower was good. The rain hammering down all afternoon was not! By the time I left work there was a lake outside the front door.

So once home I had to rescue the dripping laundry and spin it again. It is now out on the line again as the sun has finally come out. I hate having to use the tumble drier so will cross my fingers that we have enough sun tonight to get them dry.

Only seven weeks now till my job goes and there is very little out there to apply for. Our local paper had the grand total of five jobs this week - 3 carers, a chef and a carpenter. Not much good for me. Carers do an amazing job but I know I would be terrible at it. So I have invested in a Euro lottery ticket for tonight as I could do with winning!:rotfl:
