Mrs Lurcherwalker you must be wonderful to know in real life as you are wonderful on this thread. So often you come up with such thoughtful posts and you are always so supportive.
Oh, and Byatt, I think rain is putting it too mildly. Think stair-rods. Given that I work in a tin hanger, I kept wanting to go to the loo!!
And, yes, karma might be taking it's time but it will bite him eventually.

It's quite possible he's a misery who is still searching for contentment. I've seen the contentment in your posts Byatt. You've got one up on him I reckon.
Can I ask a potato salad question? All the recipes I've seen call for vinegarette and capers for potato salad. I have potatoes (Maris pipers. Will they work?) and mayonnaise. I'm just after a basic recipe that won't cost a lot to buy in.
We're having a disposable BBQ tomorrow (are they quite cheap?) got burgers and sausages and buns defrosting, alalready got coleslaw, just need to make that potato salad and some garlic bread.
I'm very excited, although we have no furniture it will be a picnic on the grass do... More funwatch it pittle doon!

Maris Piper are OK for everything pet, and mayo is fine for potato salad too. Keep an eye on the potatoes when you cook them and don't let them go mushy, turn them out on to a plate and let them get cold before cubing them up and add in as much mayonnaise as you like and some black pepper, should be lovely!!!0

tbh, I wouldn't be upset by him if it was just me, mostly because there would be no connection but DD is so desperate for his unconditional love and he continue to be the selfish bastwerd he's alway been, and it's such a disappointment to me that he's learned nothing from the devastation he's caused in both our lives, it just doesn't compute in his tiny brain.
He used to taunt me through her at the beginning as he knew how upset I would get and ended up looking like an off the wall raving lunatic. (he was trying to get me sectioned, he also tried to kill me but with no connection to him), my solicitor told me I was not to react, so I would drink to prevent me driving as I knew I wouldn't drink and drive no matter how upset I was.
My DD is the one button he can press that makes me react, he doesn't know of course and I've not spoken to him in 6 years. I suppose I want some kind of acknowledgement of his sorrow, but that's never going to happen. He's wrecked not only my DD's life, but the young girl he went off with.
Anyway, thanks for listening, it helps to write it down, and no doubt I will feel better tomorrow.0 -
Fuddle Taking a quick peek at my favourite cookery book, they had 5 different ways of making potato salad.
They recommend red or waxy potatoes.
The basic (American) version is
Boil 900g potatoes. When done, cut to bite sized pieces and toss in a bowl with
1 medium celery stick, diced
2 tablespoons finely snipped fresh chives or 2 spring onions finely chopped or 2 tablespoons minced red onion
10g finely chopped parsley
Stir together 175-250ml mayonnaise
2 tablespoons milk or red wine vinegar
Add mayonnaise mixture to warm potato mixture and toss gently to coat. Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Can't say what it tastes like as I've never made it
They also give versions for French, German, Tzatziki and Edsell Blue. Who knew potato salad could be so complicated!

BYATT you are a brilliant and loving Mum, the best you can possibly be and your caring and love for your daughter shines in every post you've ever written but what you are not is a magician and you can't make him into something he's not. Your DD has all of your love, all of your care, all you can give her and if that is what she has she is a luckier girl than most. You put her first, before you in your life and that is the most precious gift that can be given, you can't change him but you can and do make a difference to your DD and she will love you unconditionally for that, you can't give anything better because that love can't be bought, only given, yes?0

Fuddle personally I like my potato salad plain and simple, and my DCs wouldn't eat capers, do your DDs like them? I like a waxy salad potato like Charlotte for potato salad, with lots of salt, chives or spring onions and lovely mayo.0

A before and after pic of part of my kitchen is now available for viewing (you know where to look).....don't you just love it! I'm so chuffed with it.
As for potato salad, I normally use cold precooked new pots (or a tin of) with mayo, chives and black pepper.....yum!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
