Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I feel better already. I am trying to declutter but keep coming up against mountains of paper. For the last few months things have just been getting shoved in bags or boxes and are now threatening to overwhelm me. I have promised myself that I will clear one bag at a time and not panic.
Its lovely and sunny here but living right on the North East Coast means that the chill wind springs a nasty surprise if you go out without an extra wrapper. I was foolish enough to do that yesterday and am now coughing like mad.
Thanks for the info about Twinks Hobnobs Ginny. I have looked up the recipe and they look fantastic.
I am not Techno savvy in any way so please forgive the plain format. Eventually I hope to learn how to post pics etc as the view from my window is definitely worth seeing.
As for the scrimping I am lucky in that I grew up in a time and a place where it was second nature so will just have to get the right mindset on.
Have been reading through the posts on her - a few at a time - and find them inspiring. You are such fantastic supports to each other.
Well I am away to tackle more paper. Bye for now.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
VJsMUM I had one of your predicted cloudbursts when on the bus into town this morning and another humdinger whilst I was in T*sce, like being inside a drum!!! Giggle of the day was coming out of the bus station (No doors on ours KEZ!!!) the first sight that met my eyes was 3 mallard ducks having a bath in a very deep puddle outside Smiths. I've never seen ducks in town before so it was a complete surprise, but so apt for the weather and I didn't even say Nice Weather for Ducks to my friend who was there with me, how restrained!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Ginny you're on! That's a deal
Thank you lobbylud. I'm sorry about the essay PM that awaits you.
Mar, I was only going because the feelings of my dad and grandma looking down (they both died and I respect and miss them) would be very upset if I didn't help her. It know that's silly. The feelings of anger and bitterness over her lack of wanting to help herself have been too much these past few days. I'm thinking of myself and not going and appreciate the support in doing so and not judging me for not helping her. The minute she shows willing and asks for help ill be there like a shot but until that point I will just be hitting my head off a brick walk.
Remember my neighbour is a trainee mechanic? He's caught me over lunchtime to ask woul I be willing to sell jalopy! He'll give us what we paid for it as it has a 'body kit' on (what's that?) and her paint work is in pristine condition for a Citroen saxo. he wants an old car to mess around with while he builds up no claims/gets older and loves by little boy racer esk machine. I didn't know what to say! Rang DH who was thrilled because his fishing mate' mam has a Nissan micra (still 12 years old) that has only 45000 miles on the clock. DH thinks it will be a very long lasting car for me and to go ahead with it. I'm not sure as it means putting £100 extra into a car out of our savings but... 45000 miles is so low, DH has nearly done that in his 2 year old works car! What do you think? DH says Nissan's really are reliable and would beat a Citroen, especially older models, in reliability. He's picking it up and bringing it here for me to test drive in the next hour! I'm scared. I like jalopy, she's been a god send but she is very rickety. I dunno!0 -
The visit went well and they don't plan to return until next year:)
I could go out now but(can't be bothered)I also have no room in the fridge/freezer so I don't need anything off the reduced shelf at the supermarket.
Nice position to be in...so now I can work at my own pace and continue the clear out...and lovely to have someone witness what I was told so I have some protection...
All is well, for now so I am just resting, may doze a little and I will try and take the next week off."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Glad the visit went well Pops.
Fuddle I'd go for it, Nissans are pretty reliable and the Micra is a good car. (With the caveat that you never know what you're getting with a private sale and it's probably worth paying for the AA check).
Just popping on to say DH seems a lot better, and really recommends the book Feeling Good http://www.amazon.co.uk/Feeling-Good-The-Mood-Therapy/dp/0380810336/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1370609695&sr=1-1
He thinks it's really helping him.
My sister (who has ME) thanks you for the Kelp info Mar.
Shed all painted, but have noticed that the bottom on one side has rotted/been eaten away, and you can actually see a gap from the inside too a tiny bit. What do you reckon is the best way to repair this for a DIY-phobic pair?0 -
Hello Fuddle. I hope you don't mind a newbie commenting on such a personal thing but I think you are doing the best thing for yourself in staying away. Its very hard to do but unless she makes the first move nothing can really happened except you get worn out. I'm speaking from first hand experience. Stay strong!!:TUse it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0

Hello everyone,
Well done fuddle. I also think (know) you have done the right thing. Save yourself time, petrol and most of all unnecessary stress and by going you would have just given your mum further permission to carry on her chosen lifestyle. Be proud of yourself for being brave and determined.
Lobbyludd - you are certainly not intruding on here - everyone is welcome
Great news pops :j and as a bonus you have a really clutter free home to enjoy. Relax a bit now and celebrate!
I only have a few mins before school run so have skimmed through the posts to keep up. Impressed by all the to do lists today. In contrast I have done burger all (well apart from a teeny bit of food shopping and getting the kids off to school, a job in itself as DS9 HATES Fridays as its school swimming and some issues for him) Actually just sorted dishes and a load of laundry to do later so that counts right?
I drove to Sainsberry's after school run to meet a friend. She was late so browsed a bit and bought a pair of tracky botts for DS9 as he needs a pair for both dance tomorrow and new athletics club at school on Monday. Got a £4.50 off voucher.
Had breakfast with friend, big chat, another round of coffees, more chat, over three hours later .... eeek better get going!! The did a little shop to use voucher and got the equivalent of 3 mini bottles of wine with it which are 3 separate weekend treats for me. Found a lonely ownerless garlic bulb in a trolley so another little freebie and 15p off my next Sainsberry's shop...what to spend that on eh?TBH I was feeling really strung out today and having virtually a full (school) day out has helped tons. Plus my friend is going through a very unpleasant divorce and all that involves and her only son is waiting for a statement so she needed to talk .... lots.
Just had a Satsuma and HM lemon muffin for lunch as full up with breakfast. Sun is shining and off to collect my boys for the weekend next. What could be better eh?
back later to re-read properly

ps fuddle I had a micra years ago and eventually sold it to my sis when she passed her test as I knew it was a reliable, cheap car and we wanted a bigger car at the time for various reasons. As far as I know sister still has car several years later and hardly spent anything on it other than stuff like tyres. Car is apprx 14 years old.0

It infiltrates so many people's lives AOT (is it ok to call you that for short?) it feels a very private lonesome dirty secret but once you open up so many people say they know and are supportive.
I drove the car! She's like a sturdy old tank compared to Jalopy. DH taking her back to work to put on the ramps for a look underneath but I think she's a goer.
Remember my neighbour reversed into the back of Jalopy? That was mechanic's mam so he's not at all bothered by that and thinks he can sort it anyway.
Funny how days turn out!0 -
FUDDLE you know how I KEEP ON saying it feels like some things are just meant???? well it happened again didn't it? The car sounds like a good deal and if it's built like a tank it should last you a nice long time, hope it is all sound mecanhically and will be more reliable for you than Jaloppy!!!
POPS so glad that the visit went well, so glad you had someone with you as well, now take a bit of a breather and relax and enjoy life a little, you've been stressed enough over the past few months so relaxez vous and feel better.
AOT very glad you're not techno savvy either, join the band of people who always have to ask the clever ones how to do things, always room for another in here, there are loads of us in the same situation ...... me I just type and that's as techno as I go!!!!!
SQ well found with the garlic, now just what treasures shall you buy with your 15p?????? don't be reckless and spend it all at once, that's a lot of pennies so invest it wisely...... rotten aren't I? Cheers Lyn xxx0
