I may get my twelve hours back though he may be disappointed but I've looked at an official site on bus services and the show finishes at 10pm but the last bus to his or my town leaves Gateshead at 9pm so a later bus would leave us stranded in Durham still 12 miles from home.
So I'll call him at 8am and give the news, I'd phone now but it may be too early..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Morning Toughies, bus fares are extortionate these days, I'm lucky to have the bus pass. We have down here a Hampshire Day Ticket that gives you travel throughout the county for under £6, does that kind of thing exist where you are FUDDLE? it might come in under the price of a local return ticket, it might not but, if you are ever going for a distance on the busses it is a much cheaper option than buying just the fare to and from where you are going (does that make sense?), Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Clothes airer down, ironing done and put away (3 things, VJsMum!) and the floor vacuumed.
Gosh, don't overdo it - did you have to have a lie down after!I did an hours worth last night and still have more than 3 things left!
I am off to York with my marking today - it'll be an intensive 2 hours marking there and the same back with a 2 hour break in York in the middle. A good walk to the station and back and the job's a goodun. I love doing the marking on the train - no distractions. i will get more done in that 4 odd hours than I would do in 8 or more at home - and a day out to boot. I get free train travel (OH works for railways) so it is all good. Next week the marking and I are off to Kent to see dad and then Manchester for lunch with a former colleague. My now colleagues are so jealous of me being able to do this!I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Bus fares are crazy these days, one of us going in to town might break even on petrol and parking versus bus fare but as soon as there's two of us it's cheaper to drive, especially as we usually park in Waitrose where it's free for three hours and walk the 5 minutes or so into town.
Managed a potter round Waitrose yesterday, picked up my last box of free teabags with the vouchers from the Waitrose Weekend free paper. Got 4 boxes altogether, cost to buy is over four pounds for 15 teabags  The caddy was getting a bit low but we now have a mix of the free posh ones, half price organic ones and Ald@'s bestAlso picked up YS salads, milk and toilet rolls so Weds morning is obviously the time to go. Spent enough to get my free newspaper and also got my free takeaway tea so very pleased with my little outing. Some of us are easily pleased :rotfl:
Spent an hour at the lottie yesterday. There weren't any other plot holders about when I got there, just a couple of chaps who I assumed had parked their work van somewhere quiet to eat their lunch. I was a bit alarmed when one of them followed me to our plot so got my phone out in case I needed to get help! Turned out he wanted to ask about our polytunnel as they're not allowed to erect them on his site in the next village and he wants to write to the council to object. He looked harmless enough so I showed him round the tunnel and recommended the company we got it from. He proceeded to tell me the best way to grow all my stuff, how to get rid of bindweed, how he does this, how he does that.....so much for peace and quiet! I did get a few jobs done after he left, pushed some runner bean seeds in round a couple of wigwams and planted a tray of beans around another. Woke up to a slight frost this morning so hope they are OK. Have a couple more trays in reserve just in case. Finally planted a couple of rows of beetroot, chard and - wait for it - kale!! Looking forward to my curly greens in the winter0 -
How did he take the news pops?
The thing about the trip is, if I drive to DH work (10 mins) and he drops me into town (2 mins) i can get there and park for no money/few miles petrol... but I'm after a bit independence really and want to suss it out myself to build my confidence.
I forgot all about midges being so close to the river. It's been awful on the dog walk this morning and last night when the rain had stopped and evening sun came out we were plagued in our garden (not like Scotland mind you, boy you know about midges up there!).
I'm after abit advice over repellent if you can? Why works/doesn't/cheap/OS/homemade.
I lost my cool with eldest this morning, I really was dragon mother. I pulled out the wash the clothes that she had played out in FOR 1 HOUR! Thete was no dirt, no marks and no smell. It really bothered me, I got very cross, she's gone to school now grumpy and I can't shake feeling awful about it.
Cupboards are full again, tea bags purchased and I was very surprised at how little it cost in comparison to a supermarket shop. Also very pleased to see suncream for under £3 there. It bothers me how suncream cost £6-£9!
House is reasonably tidy so apart from a few off jobs I'm going to clean thought the place today and look forward to my cheese and pickle sandwich at lunch time0 -
Morning toughies!
Hope everyone's plodding on or skipping about today as appropriate. I am on a plodding type of day today, feeling a bit unsettled and can't quite get my head around things. Probably hormone related plus have my volunteer training tomorrow and preparing in my head what I want to say to them.
Its not only the feeling I haven't bonded as well as I would have liked with the group but also I have a lot of internal criticisms about how they are doing the training. People are allowed too much time to go off the subject and talk about their "stuff" and we are missing out things and skimming through areas. All the stuff they said originally like have a comments box for tutors to look at each week, sharing relevant stuff from our reflective diaries, having time after the course to discuss matters on an individual basis etc - none of it has been happening at all. I am able to raise things in a constructive way but how ever you wrap it up, it is still a criticism of the way the tutors are teaching. I am glad though that I have reached this stage of maturity where I can weigh things up and am prepared to raise difficult subjects in an appropriate manner.
Anyway apologies for ramble above - it's important to me and I need to get my thoughts down in written form and offload a bit if that's ok.
Mcculloch - thank for sharing the story about your
daughter's grandmother - very interesting and a woman to be proud of!
Pops - what a lovely invite you had from Eddie. A shame to miss it but maybe another time at another venue perhaps? Sounds like you are a great support for him and that you find your friendship rewarding too.
I was planning a day in to clean and tidy but once the washing is hung out and I done the dishes and basics, I need to go out and buy some bits for the kids, house etc. DS8's lunchbag is difficult to zip and unzip - the plastic lining is wearing away. None of the lunchbags last more than a few months, it's so annoying but I get the new lunchbag outlay back within 2 weeks as I save £2 a day making two packed lunches (and boys detest school dinners). Have a whole list of odds and ends to buy and hoping being out and about will lift my mood, usually works a treat.
Okey dokey washing finished so off to do hang it out.
have a good day everyone

FUDDLE insect repellents - look for something with DEET in, it's the most effective that I know of. I prefer a spray as I can spray my head, I find they get stuck in your hair yukkk!!! and your ankles and feet in sandle wearing weather, if we ever get any. For around the house, citronella candles/oil in an oil burner is good as they really don't like the small, and the essential oil is good to pop on pulse points on people too as again, they don't like the smell, but it's not enough to keep them away completely so you need the repellent too, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Yay, maybe we are starting on a winning streak as we have won - wait for it- a mug :rotfl: met up with dd16 for half an hour during a break in her revision classes and popped into Mr T in the village to buy a clear pencil case ready for next exam. A lady was doing samples of a new choc filled choc chip cookie (very rich, couldn't eat a whole one!) and giving out scratch cards to win one of said mugs. Dd scraped half heartedly at hers and found she won. She tried not to look too pleased, not cool, but secretly she was
she does like the ordinary non filled cookies so now she has a mug for her tea to go with them. Yet again we are so easily pleased. Doesn't take much to brighten our day.

Avon's skin so soft range is very good, (word of mouth) for midges for most people. (I wouldn't use anything with Deet except for mosquitos (malaria countries) as I don't like chemicals, it's also not as effective now so presumably you have to use more often.).
Alf'smum, I would be delighted for days with a winning mug! I was totally over the moon when I won a Koala bear a few years back!
It's a beautiful day here, I am just so happy when it's like this, I think I will have to consider retiring to a warm country one day, as nto sure I can cope with the cold anymore. Bought some very cheap plants at Homeba$e, in their poorly plants section, I always look there as I hate to think of them being rejected. Paid 50p for some parsely herb.0 -
I have heard the army uses Avon skin so soft as an insect repellant, just the basic spray. Im going to try it on my legs later as something in the garden is biting the heck out of me and leave nasty itch lumps - got one on my finger too.
Woke up with man flu but got loads to do so will have to be strong :rotfl: Think it was after I got soaked yesterday at the hospital then had to run, pushing the wheelchair, through the hospital and got too hot. They had changed his clinic and not notified anyone, reckon it was half a mile and I did it 4 minutes  dont think I will be entering a marathon anytime as I nearly collapsed when I got there
Good news though the pain clinic is rushing through a scan appointment to check his new symptoms and then can rule out other things.
Got to dig through the freezer in a minute and find something interesting for tea, probably pasta based for ease.
Congratulations on the win Alfs mum, gives us all hope!Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
