  • Our radiators are always called "radiogators" - and son is now 45!
Also, when he'd been in the sun, he had "sockbins" i.e. a white mark around his ankles where his socks had been.
Funny the things you remember and keep........
    Normal people worry me.

I told OH I felt a bit 'wallaby' the other night when I meant wobbly, so that will stick now. I inherited some robins for the Christmas tree that were a bit suspect so now we have to have the Christmas vultures every year. :) I love the silly things families say.

My son's very first word was 'duckbar'. Eventually we figured out he meant spider, but it took about 6 months!
DD used to think M&S was called MarksisExpensive.

Fuddle:- yes I know where you mean.

VJsmum:- She married one brother and then had an affair with the other one! It caused ructions at the time as you can imagine! Thankfully the older brother forgave his younger brother in time, as my younger brother was killed in a motorbike accident when he was 39. It's a hard way to learn that life is too short.:(
I cannot forgive my ex sister-in-law for the appalling way she treated my Mam when my brother died. I'm just not able to.:(
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

just a quickie to suggest that you might want to get `just in case` stuff in, just in case this lurgy goes nationwide. It`s truly awful and is flu not a cold. It comes on all of a sudden and you don`t get the prickly throat warning. It goes straight to the chest and also the sinuses so that you are incredibly bunged up and coughing all the time, particularly when you try and rest lying down and the headache just goes on and on It just took me over and I have resorted to taking cold and flu meds, just to get through a couple of hours at a time. Important to drink as much as possible but not dairy stuff as there is an unimaginable amount of non-stop mucus and dairy adds to it

I have ordered more painkillers and meds from chemist direct and am grateful to have 4 large boxes of man size tissues already in the house. I have a large stock of herbs to make tea but otherwise I would be glad of the likes of hot ribena. I am dipping into my winter stocks and soup is the main thing here with dh making up a pack or two of pancake mix or opening a tin of food for himself. If you don`t have a storecupboard then I would be getting some quick foods in at the very least, that and squash and some meds. If you have never had flu then think of your worst cold ever, times more than 20. Last time I had flu was in winter 1977/78 so getting the flu isn`t a common occurrence, not like getting a cold. Flu knocks you for six and with a bang

Our DD always had problems with words that have L and N in.
So Auntie Helen became Henny (she is now known as that by everyone even tho DD is now 30!)
Sultanas were tarnies, and earrings were rinnies.

She never really grew out of it much, as her colleagues at M@cD's found out when she worked there (college job). At that time it was the millennium, and they teased her by asking what year it was, and what flavours of milkshake there were (vanilla was the one they were hoping she would attempt!) Fortunately it was all good natured & she could see the funny side of it

I love the strange word changing and family words...my gran used to us the word 'appin' for the bedclothes and I was an adult before I found out it was because she said she was waiting for something to ''appin '' underneath them with my grandad LOL.

My mother loved making her own words up and loved pronouncing unusual words...one of her favourites was C E M E N T A T I O N which was on a huge sign outside a factory...she would say it over and over to herself.

We have our own sayings.....we lived in a tiny village before with a big hen hut and if we ever argued we used to tell each other to sleep in the ''hen hut'' instead of the bedroom. Since we moved, I have the two seater sofa and he has the three seater as our virtual 'hen huts'...lol.

I solved the problem of the people who were s*** stirring about me. One of them phoned me so I gave him a piece of my mind and told him I had better things to do than defend myself to someone who had been listening to gossip and trouble stirring. He was stunned into silence and left it at that.

Then I sent the people who had been doing the stirring a direct message saying they should be ashamed of stirring trouble up for me and that they were off my facebook permanantly, as friends would not behave that way towards me.

Since then I have noticed they have deleted their accounts on facebook and they did not turn up today to say anything to me.......so I obviously named and shamed the guilty parties. My husband pointed out that none of it was me or my fault, so I should just go on with my usual Friday plans and smile and be happy.....he was so right! He even took me out for a nice lunch after I had been to the gym today.

I once read a workbook which was the sequel to ''The celestine experience'' which said that all relationships , good or bad were based on power struggles. If a relationship suddenly turned for the worse, then to name the game. That is what I did and it is very effective at putting a stop to the game.

We would have been in the company of some of the people this weekend so have decided instead to go out for a lovely meal at a local taverna in our village. It will be nice for the villagers to know we are supporting the local people. On Sunday we will be going to the Remembrance service in town. Fortunately the forecast is lovely for the weekend.

Picked up my bits and pieces from our friend who is retiring from her business and bought some extra stainless steel pans.

Yesterday I bought a pair of jeans from Lidl's...my first pair for over 20 years as I could never find any I liked that would fit properly. I tried them on last night thinking I might need to take them up but they were a perfect fit....I don't believe it at just 10 euros!!!

Have a lovely weekend folks xxxxxxx

  • Afternoon all.

I don't bother with my mother anymore. She wasn't good to us growing up and she doesn't bother with us now. I don't care about me, but she doesn't bother with her grandchildren. That, I cannot forgive. I have had a bad year, she hasn't called once.
Each Christmas, my auntie gives her cards for all 7 of her grandchildren. They are stamped and addressed. All my mother has to do is write in them and post them. She doesn't bother. I should tell my auntie but for some reason, I feel guilty.

We have a few Christmas traditions here. On the 22nd or 23rd we drove around to see the Christmas lights on everyone's houses. With the price of diesel though, think we will have to wrap up warm and walk the local estate this year.
We have a buffet of Xmas eve. The children get new Xmas pjs. An early present from the elves.
I do dinner for about 4pm.

Well. I have wittered on. Sorry!

    (((Hugs))) for those in need.

    Byatt, how is your daughter?

  • KITTIE - sorry to hear you are feeling very poorly, real flu is horrendous and I hope you are responding to the medications. Take life very easy (not that you have a choice in that) until you feel able to be up and about again, it is such sound advice to be stocked up with meds and things to keep you hydrated, we all should listen and act. Hoping you make a very speedy recovery, stay warm, stay safe and look after yourself, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • DANETASTIC - I've just checked back to make sure it was you with the post, if you want some very nice vegan cookbooks look for a lady called LINDA MAJZLIK she has published some super books for different world cuisines. They are very easy to work with, I have a selection and although not vegan I love the food. The books are available on E*ay to give you an idea of what is available, not too expensive and I've had them ordered from W*terstones in the past. The taste of India one is particularly good, she has middle eastern, african, eastern european, south american, carribean etc. so you get lots of choice with different tastes. Hope that's useful and that poor Misty is now recovered from her outside ordeal, Docky sends E Bikkits anna SSSLLLLUURRRRRPPPPPP!!!! for her, Cheers Lyn x.
