MSE News: Comet in administration

Not sure of the legalities of this but a while ago an electronics retailer called Powerhouse (I think it was) went into administration about two days after my parents had ordered and paid in full for a very expensive fridge/freezer which was over £1,500. They had paid by cheque.
The day they went into administration, my dad and I went into the store and asked if we could take the display model, the shop assistants said they couldn't let any stock leave the store or something.
Basically we told them that we were going to take the display model whether they liked it or not and told them that if they wanted to stop us they could either "try it" or phone the police.
They watched us pick it up and walk out of the shop with it before one of them ran out with some bubble wrap and packing tape and wrapped it up for us. Then we put it in the boot of the estate car (half hanging out) and drove off.
This is how you should do it folks.. well done sir!:T0 -
You know Comet were having big adverts on TV up until a few days before they went into adminstration..... Although they knew what was happening they were still baiting customers with offers they knew were going to go sour... outrageous con men.
Illustrates again why you should always pay by credit card....0 -
We are trying to get ExtraCare to fix our TV as per the conditions in the warranty we purchased (ie engineer call outs). On our third call to them my husband was told they didn't have any engineers and retold to take our TV back to the store. On pointing out that this appeared to be a breach of contract the phone was disconnected.
We have contacted the Warranty Group and they have not received any instruction from Comet.
Finally if they have no engineers why give them the TV.0 -
A friend of mine works in a comet store and he tells me that they have been told as salespeople they are NOT allowed to offer any discount other than the marked deduction between 10 and 30%, they have also been told they will not be receiving any commission for at least a month and it will be a reduced commission. Have a little thought for the people working in the stores they have had a lot to put with a lot in recent weeks they don't need people screaming for a discount!!!!0

I made a debit card dispute via my bank (Bank of Scotland) and they offered to take it up on my behalf. I paid £240 to Comet at the beginning of November - I posted earlier in this thread. Yesterday the money went back into my bank account. :j.
Didn't expect that - really thought I had lost the money. I paid by Visa Debit. Bank of Scotland were not at first keen to raise a dispute - I had to emphasise strongly to them that Comet had told me they would not refund me nor deliver the cooker. I think with any Visa there is some kind of guarantee, whether Comet have the funds or not.0 -
:(oh. Now got a letter from the bank saying they put the money back in while they sort it out. Not sure why they would do this. Comet have not paid up.0

Yes all very well but more importantly what about the people they've taken money from and that are not going to get their goods?
These workers need to get real as they may not get their wages anyway.... help as many customers as possible (for cash in hand) load up with the goods that are left and when the store is emptied out go to the pub!0 -

Hi,
I have a TV that was taken by the home delivery guys last saturday. I was told that if the employees at skelmersdale lose their jobs then it would be difficult to get the TV back. It so happened that on Monday the employees at Skelmersdale lost their jobs and obviouslu no part for my TV will be ordered. I have tried getting in touch with customer service but no one knows whats going on.
I have been without a TV for almos 3 weeks. its covered under the extended warranty but how can I get my TV back? and what are my rights? Any help would be great.0
