Yes I know it's copied from an article. However it is obvious you thought "venerable" was "vulnerable". If not then there would be no reason to highlight the word! Emphasising that M&S are venerable has no relevance to the discussion :)

I've not had a M&S gift card for a while, last time it was 1 year. If its now 2 years then that's obviously good news and I thank you for bringing that to my attention. It makes them a much more attractive present.

The economic squeeze could force mid-market retailers, such as Next and Marks & Spencer, out of business, as shoppers go for higher-end stores including Ted Baker.

Keep saving those Next and M&S vouchers :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

That's me convinced. I find marie Claire an extremely reputable source to provide information on a companies financial future.

Ironically you're the only person who has actually owned up to having a M&S gift card!

That's all very well and good, but you've still not pointed out how you've got through life not knowing the difference between venerable and vulnerable, you muppet (as you'd say).

All very well calling other people muppets, not so well when you're the one making the mistake in the first place. :D
  • I don't see the point of vouchers. You're just getting a bit of paper with a pretty picture, and in return you're giving your money limitations where it can be spent and an expiry date.

Yes I agree. However when I get £20 given to me in cash I tend to fritter it away down the pub. With a gift voucher it encourages me to actually buy something.

I agree, but I tend to get given vouchers instead of presents most birthdays and Christmas. I think my family feel more like they're giving me something if it's a voucher than if it's cash. Perhaps because they have a better sense of what I might buy myself than if I got cash?

    I agree

I bought an Ipad mini on Friday in an Apple store. It was frankly a very pleasant shopping experience. I enjoyed it immensely. Although I must admit the staff do seem a bit too happy for my liking!

I would argue that Comet isn't really on the high street anyway. Most Comets are at out of town shopping centres. The problems with companies like Comet is that they sell a lot of items that are very large. The high streets advantage over the internet is you can walk into a store and instantly get a product. Some people are prepared to pay more for that service.

With Comet often you have to get the item delivered anyway so you may as well order at a cheaper price on the internet.

I've just finished a phone call with Amazon (an issue with an order - my fault, not theirs) and it's convinced me just how far they are ahead of traditional retailers as far as customer service is considered.

Firstly, I ask for a call and they call me. Yes, they call me - not me calling an 087 number at great cost to me. I'm straight through and talking to an advisor.

The call centre is open from 6am to 12 midnight. Most other retailers seem to struggle with the idea of life outside the window of 8am-8pm.

Problem was dealt with in less than 10 minutes - no fuss, no problems and a cheery voice on the end of the phone. Perhaps the most pleasurable call centre experience ever.

OK, so the call probably ended up in India but that doesn't really bother me - this is an international company I'm dealing with anyway.

I have only dealt with Amazon CS once after they seriously messed up and it was horrendous. They would not budge from a refund, the items were removed from sale due to the error, even though they stocked the missing items from the 2 kits separately. When the kits arrived back they only refunded 1 as the other "was not the item ordered", no !!!! sherlock !! Sorted eventually but not a good experience.
