Gift vouchers are only dangerous if you buy them for companies that are struggling. I would be more than happy to buy gift vouchers for some companies eg M&S, apple, next etc.

As there is absolutely no chance of M&S going bust that was useless advice .

Venerable retailer Marks & Spencer is feeling the chill on the High Street as grim shopping trends are compounded by stock buying blunders.

M&S as already had to pull out of the electrical and technical market this year.

But hey - they are immune from going bust - so lets all stock up on vouchers :rotfl:

When did this happen - todays news said still accepted - although it did say "for now".

A few weeks ago i spoke to someone saving vouchers for M&S. I said it was never a good idea to hang onto gift cards/vouchers anymore - just get shut ASAP.

I stick mine on Ebay if i can't find anything i want.

    So I'm lying?

    1) your "friend" was saving M&S gift vouchers.
    2) you told them to "get shut"
    3) despite your very weak daily mail article M&S's profits last year were over £600 million. So they won't go bust.
    4) why "especially next"? They are also very successful.
    5) you don't need to read the financial times to know which companies are struggling.
    6) "save gift cards". As most people know gift cards expire in a year

I love the fact you think that word is "vulnerable". Probably my favourite post by anyone on this board ever :)

A sad day for the retail trade, but shows what the internet is doing to our high st.

    No.

It shows that the internet is providing a choice for consumers who are frustrated with the outdated High Street experience.

The likes of John Lewis have demonstrated that consumers aren't purely obsessed with price if the benefits of doing business on the High Street are tangible enough.

Personally I would prefer shopping in a John Lewis store any day over using their website. I have found the online service to be atrocious on many occasions.

The point remains that the 'internet' isn't killing the High Street. The High Street is killing itself because, generally, the retailers on it aren't providing an enjoyable retail experience - and the ones that are are thriving.

When was the last time you walked past an Apple Store and thought "Oh, it's quiet in there"?

    I agree

I bought an Ipad mini on Friday in an Apple store. It was frankly a very pleasant shopping experience. I enjoyed it immensely. Although I must admit the staff do seem a bit too happy for my liking!

I would argue that Comet isn't really on the high street anyway. Most Comets are at out of town shopping centres. The problems with companies like Comet is that they sell a lot of items that are very large. The high streets advantage over the internet is you can walk into a store and instantly get a product. Some people are prepared to pay more for that service.

With Comet often you have to get the item delivered anyway so you may as well order at a cheaper price on the internet.

Haha, yeah that does come pretty close - it's pretty obvious it's a different word entirely :p

Its copied and pasted from the dailymail article you muppet - click on it and see!

My M&S card had a two your expiry - not a year. Another lie.

You recommend people save and stock up on gift cards/vouchers.

I recommend people spend them as soon as they can.

My advice will see no-one out of pocket. You advice will see millions out of pocket.

    Simples :-)
