Comet going into administration?

Their website is hosted on WIX which offer free websites and paid versions, the fact they are on a wix subdomain looks totally unprofessional
Going by their comments....most viewers of the "new" page seem to be falling for it. Only one seems to think its not genuine. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Speaking as the other half of a Comet employee I would like to thank all those defending them. Despite no knowledge of their future employment they are still turning up for work and trying hard. The abuse from customers is regular and they are taking it. I came online to look for advice for us and all I have found is advice for people who can not use their gift vouchers, all I want is reassurance that we will be able to keep our home. So anyway, thank you for being the only people who seem to give a d*mn about the people affected by this.
I've been there, done that, and got the T-shirt, although not in a retail environment.
Having said that, I've been unfortunate enough to experience Comet's so-called customer service on a couple of occasions, and if they treat their employees as badly as they treat their customers, it's little wonder they've gone belly up.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
Comet aren't going to be saved, I've been informed the contract with their haulage firm was ended today.
Administrators compiled a list of all stock I'm stores for the firesale with no plans to send any more out from the distribution centre0 -
I guess insurance replacement cards which are now probably worthless will be refunded / swapped by the issuing insurance company. Except we will have to wait for confirmation that the cards will not be honoured, and if the advertised fire sale goes ahead there will be no stock to spend them on anyway !
Direct Line (RBS group) did most of their electrical claim settlements via Comet vouchers, offering 20% less if you insisted on cash, and they are one of the biggest insurers around. Must be thousands of people holding Comet cards issued by them to put right the trauma of a burglary.
I hope they don't and you're stuffed, because you deserve to feel what it's like to be left with nothing - then maybe you'll have some respect for those losing their jobs.
Instead of worrying about yourself, spare a thought for those losing their jobs - instead of being a total tool in your previous posts.0 -

Agree with you 100%0 -
Although gift vouchers can be dangerous I would say M&S ones will be one of the safest ones you can get! It would be a major shock if they went to the wall
Yeah - didn't you say the same about Woolworths? :rotfl:
Think you have totally missed the point - i was referring to gift vouchers in general - not M&S.
But no company can ever say they are 100% safe.0 -
I must admit i stopped shopping at Comet because the staff at MY local one were a waste of space and made you feel unwelcome.
That said - i hate seeing a retailer i have grown up with disappear - and i would never dream of labelling all comet staff.
Its a sad day - wether you shop there or not.0 -

No because woolworths going to the wall was not unexpected. Only an idiot would have been surprised by that happening!
Gift vouchers are only dangerous if you buy them for companies that are struggling. I would be more than happy to buy gift vouchers for some companies eg M&S, apple, next etc.
Also you were not referring to gift vouchers in general. Your point was you told your friend who was saving gift vouchers for M&S to "get shut ASAP". As there is absolutely no chance of M&S going bust that was useless advice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I bought a product today in comet. However something else I wanted wasnt in stock and I went to currys next door.In Currys was the product I bought for less. Now Comet have a price match it said on the leaflet my receipt was on and the staff by the door had a sign up saying we wont be beaten on price. So I went back and they said they couldnt price match me at all and I would have to apply to the administrators for the over amount.I felt sorry for the girl but i do think where the terms and conditions of sale change it should be clearly displayed.0
