I bought a product today in comet. However something else I wanted wasnt in stock and I went to currys next door.In Currys was the product I bought for less. Now Comet have a price match it said on the leaflet my receipt was on and the staff by the door had a sign up saying we wont be beaten on price. So I went back and they said they couldnt price match me at all and I would have to apply to the administrators for the over amount.I felt sorry for the girl but i do think where the terms and conditions of sale change it should be clearly displayed.
You were told to apply to the administrators for that amount.
What is wrong with that?
How much is the difference?
Just to add... don't bother to apply to the administators unless it is a significant sum you are talking about.0 -
Well, looks like Comet wont be refunding my money, even though it was arranged before they went into administration. I asked them to cancel the refund, and simply return the item back to me... wouldn't do that either. PayPal dispute is the only hope I have, but wouldn't surprise me if that fails too.0

How do you define a significant sum.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

Hi all
Last Saturday we purchased a fridge freezer and cooker from comet on finance and paid a depost. They rang on Wednesday just before we heard about them going into administration to advise cooker out of stock but would deliver the fridge freezer on Sunday and the cooker the following Sunday. We now know that it was never going to come into stock as they were not getting any new stock. Fridge freezer came today thankfully however the finance is for both. What should we do ?

When you have real documented proof that the cooker is not going to arrive, discuss this with the finance company.
Further down the line, if ever you have a fault with your fridgefreezer, you can rest in the comfort that the finance company are equally responsible with the retailer for the performance of the contract.
Have a read of MSE's Section 75 article.0 -

I suspect what jo03 is saying is they shouldn't still have those signs up if they don't intend to still abide by them, but probably because it's the administrators running the store rather than Comet they will get away with it.0 -

Ok, I say that somewhat tongue in cheek, because it is almost certain that they would just become another creditor.0 -

I briefly visited my local Comet today. In the window there is a temporary notice to say that they are not doing price matching.0 -
The idea of an administrator, is to maximise profits for the companies and organisations who are owed money and to try and keep the comapny in administrationgoing until a buyer comes forward.
Can you really see them honouring price matches, taking goods back due to change of mind, faulty goods, gift cards etc? Anything which takes money out of the pot to pay bills, will be refused.
If you want to buy from Comet, do your homework first. See how much things are elsewhere first. They won't be doing massive reductions. By the sound of it, the reason why they have gone bump is down to manufacturers unwiling to supply goods for the Xmas period as the lack of credit insurance, means they most likely wouldn't be paid when the invoice was due. It is similar to you having a very bad credit rating.
As someone has already said the chances of getting more stock delivered is next to no chance, who would supply or even deliver for them, with the cahnce of getting stung is very high. I give them 2 weeks max and then shops will be closed.
A sad day for the retail trade, but shows what the internet is doing to our high st.0 -
No because woolworths going to the wall was not unexpected. Only an idiot would have been surprised by that happening!
Gift vouchers are only dangerous if you buy them for companies that are struggling. I would be more than happy to buy gift vouchers for some companies eg M&S, apple, next etc.
Also you were not referring to gift vouchers in general. Your point was you told your friend who was saving gift vouchers for M&S to "get shut ASAP". As there is absolutely no chance of M&S going bust that was useless advice.
Only an idiot would think M&S could never go bust. Only an idiot would beieve that of any company - especially NEXT. And buying from a company not struggling? Do you think people read the financial times before sending friends and family gift cards? And as i was saying don't SAVE gift cards - how do you know which companies will be in trouble in years to come?
Nokia was in a good poition like Apple once - now its on its knees.
Like i said - only an idiot.
oH, AND I TOLD MY FRIEND TO GET RID OFF ALL GIFT VOUCHERS ASAP - she just happened to have M&S at the time.
Quote:- "I said it was never a good idea to hang onto gift cards/vouchers anymore- get shut ASAP"
Seems pretty general to me. If your gonna quote someone - have the decency not to lie about it.0
