If you're that concerned about having a gold debit card, just design your own, and upload a plain gold picture.

I'm not ready to open a Halifax account just yet(I'm waiting till I have a spare account to switch to collect the £100 bonus, but when I do I'll get a personalised card using that link so thanks!

As innovate said - - whatever turns you on. I do have the card myself, but not for its looks.

So why for which reasons did you choose the gold card over the normal one?

    Is the Gold one contactless?

The features of the debit card have been covered earlier in the thread. People also posted the link to the Select website.

Yes, conditions apply, but I don't think that 'Select' gives you any better deals on any of their offerings, with the exception of the Gold VISA debit card.

My letter said that the conditions to qualify for Select are any of the following
    • pay £5k/[account]mth into a 123 current account, from a non-Santander account
    • have at least £75K in one or more Santander UK current, savings or investment account
    • have a property worth at least £500K with a Santander UK mortgage
I usually pay in >£5k from non-Santander account. No sign of them sending me a Select Card.

How long have you been paying in over 5k a month?

Between June 2013 - December 2013. Will be doing the same again from this April.
  • Interesting! Seems they might not automatically upgrade EVERYONE who meets the criteria..

I'm tempted to ring and ask to be include with Santander Select!

To be fair to them, I've had no pushy sales talk, some decent advance warning of new savings products (ISAs specifically, where they come out pretty well as a rule), and someone to contact that's quite competent at sorting out large/complex movements of money.

And the best thing was that I only got Select because I was arb-ing an old dormant base +0.5% tracker mortgage and dumping the whole facility into a tracker bond they had paying base +2.7% (sadly long gone now). But as far as they were concerned I was a major lending and saving customer so I got upgraded!

It's not really a private bank account, but in terms of what I need it operates better than the free Natwest private account I had (before it was downgraded as they only wanted people that would pay a fee for it!)

Asking if they offer a contactless card might be a subtle way to do it.

Also they might be looking for Payroll BACS transactions or the accounts get flagged up for review by a branch manager before issuing a select card.
