I love tablecloths. Keep an eye on charity shops, they do seem to have gone out of favour even though I love them! Bring them back I say!!

I picked up a lovely silk tablecloth when I was in Cambodia last December - gutted I didn't bring 7 back with me - at £4 each they were a bargain - why didn't I think!

  • I have bought wide dress material from markets and hemmed the raw edges on a sewing machine- have some over 15 years old now still going. Good way of getting Christmas cloths for much less than shops. Also Laura Ashley used to do pvc in decent designs (Expensive, but waited for the sale) which worked well with messy children- now use mine for painting table at school as children grown.

Check out local markets for fabric stalls and ask for PVC-coated fabric. No need to hem, cut to size for instant wipe-clean tablecloth.

My mum was a massive LA addict, we had several generations of PVC kitchen tablecloths in various LA designs (all bought in the sales of course!)

    Woolies have a good selection.
    Order online, collect in store.
  • You could use a sheet? Cloth tablecloths are not easy to find but vinyl ones are generally about. Ive often bought nice ones in Oxfam but for the kids, a cut down sheet is fine.

My sister is in the process of moving at the moment and bought several pairs of curtains from Ikea which my Mum has been altering for her. This has left her with a large remnant which me with my OS head on last weekend suggested could be made into a table cloth [she's bought a dining table from the charity shop] When I popped over last night my Mum was beavering away at her sewing machine embellishing it with one of her fancy stitches and it looks fab!!

If you can get to South Sheilds market (north east way) I have just bought one for my table lace look for £4, he sells them in smaller and bigger sizes for round square or rectangle tables. Not sure if its for all sizes are the same price. So no more pengin shower curtin for us now lol.

Ebay is my friend - always worth a look. Try looking under 'Antiques' and then 'Fabric' and then 'Linens' - you may find some surprising bargains (but watch out for p&p)
    Always another chapter

Wow! I thought it was just me! I've been struggling to find "the right" tablecloths for my circular table.

At the mo I'm using a very cheapo curtain that just happens to be the exact colour I wanted :o
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D
