Tablecloths I can't believe I am having to ask but they are now classed as OS

Options
I've been everywhere, supermarkets, bedding shops, even charity shops. What do I find - table runners, posh mats, nowhere does table cloths!

I even asked in Roseby's who used to do them, reply 'Sorry they are old fashioned, we don't do them any more'

Well my sewing skills are not up to scratch, so no way I could make one. Have seen some on eBay but they seem expensive. £22.99 for the size I wanted!

Any ideas where else I can get one ? I want to protect the table from the boys who unfortunately have extremely poor motor skills making meal times messy, tried place mats but they miss and the table is unvarnished and would like to keep it that way if possible. I've been having to use an old towel but would rather not when we have company or the boys have friends for tea as it looks awful. Plus I can't just leave it on all the time as it looks so unsightly.

Any help appreciated.
One day I might be more organised...........

Do ypu live near a Dunelm shop? Not only do they sell tablecloths, but most of them also sell wipeclean material on a roll (not sure what it's called, but is shiny & easy to clean).

    Try this link

    http://www.dunelm-mill.com/pages/storelocator/choosestore.asp

They do have 2 types of store in this area, (Midlands) some are huge with a large selection of material by the yard - others are smaller.

Oh there is one in Sunderland and Stockton :D I'm still dissappointed that with the name it has there isn't one here, but I do go to Sunderland occasionally (once every couple of months) same with Teeside, so if I have no more luck locally will go when I am there. Thanks for that, plus welcome to the forum :) just noticed you are new.

Could you get some of that rubbery stuff that protects the table? Not sure what its called but you can cut it to fit.

    Hi

Don't know if this helps but Argos have a tablecloth and 3 tea towels on offer for £9.99 (The tablecloth is 180cm x 130cm).

It's available for pickup at Argos Extra stores but can be ordered in from their normal stores.

I agree, Dunelm is the place, they sell a good range of patterns and styles in our local one. They also did some really nice gold and silver runners for christmas time. My sister bought me a nice big tablecloth for 50p from a jumble sale a couple of weeks ago!
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Failing that, La Redoute do tablecloths and their mini-price ones aren't too pricey - depends on the size.

If it's a big table, have you thought about buying a single sheet in a deep colour (or even white) and using that? I have a huge collection of antique white lace tablecloths (huh, showing off now!!!) and I often use a sheet underneath to set them off. My table is HUGE but incredibly tatty so has a tablecloth on at all times!

The other thing you can use is a cotton throw - you can often get those quite cheaply. I have three which were presents from Past Times (not suggesting you pay their prices) and all are throws and not designed to be tablecloths, but look great and wash up brilliantly when my kids spill stuff on them (which is usually within about four seconds of my putting a new cloth on the table).
